Way of Overlord
Chapter 234: Weight of A Choice

Chapter 234: Weight of A Choice

The tactical objective and the grand strategy objective is different but the grand strategy objective must take priority.

The grand objective is simple.

Use Khagai to attack Bolghar.

If Bolghar moves according to the prediction, if Cha Ner Ul alliance takes Haltur, if Burka send aids, then when these moves are taken, then the Brolgadhr tribe plans would come to fruition

Aeryon opens his eyes and then he look at Mayeux.

He observe him like some kind of a spectator. He looks at Mayeux eyes and all he could see eyes boundless confidence in his plans

He is so confident that even he felt like he is being infected by this confidence

But Aeryon did not make his confidence rashly. Instead, he frowns even more and his finger is tapping on the wooden table.

He felt the heaviness of this decision.

This decision probably would determine the fate of his tribe. If this plan is nots successful, the backlash would be so severe that he would bring war to the entire western tribe borders.

If that happens, not only would he weaken is tribe, he would also probably destroy the good situation at the western border of the great Steppe.

Especially when he knew exactly what would happen if those Western Zhou people is allowed to come to the Great Steppe.

It might lead to the worst unexpected outcome. In the books, it is only the princes of the North that raid and massacrer the people of the Great Steppe.

But what if by changing certain thing, a worse outcome would come into being?

Aeryon knows the future direction of this world which makes him even more cautious.

Is he not ambitious? Of course, he is ambitious. Cao Cao for example slaughtered so many cities in history, that the blood of his people is probably more than the people of barbarians.

But James has the system. And he also has the advantage. Right now, he could still choose not to do this.

He could tell Mayeux to draft another plan. But he suspected that the other plan would not take the western side this fast.

"A year" he mutters to himself. He could not help but shake his head.

"Inst this the kind of plan I want?" he thought to himself. A plan to quickly and swiftly take down the western side of the Southern Great Steppe so he could expand north or contain the east?

But when the plan really arrive in front of him, Aeryon now hesitate.

"Give me a moment" He mutters toward Mayeux and Mayeux nodded,

Aeryon tapped his finger again on the table, that rhythmic tapping like a melody supplement with the sound of the whooshing wind from the outside.

Mayeux sat down on one of the sitting areas, closing his eyes waiting for Aeryon to make his decision.

"Mayeux plans..." And he could not help but look at Mayeux again and sighed.

In Aeryon tribe, there is many new warriors.

Young, all eager to fight, all eager to make a contribution. But only a few people under the tribe that could speak to him and give him ideas and way to move forward.

Aeryon might have the knowledge of his times.

But it is not like he is a war commander in his times.

It is different from what one would think.

People who never stood on the battlefield could not understand the pressure of making a decision. They could not understand why some generals in history got worked up or get carried away.

Aeryon when he leads his men to battle, a ten thousand men behind him, when he spoke a word and his men all clamour for victory, he too got carried away.

Have any one in his time felt what it was like to do such a thing?

He is around twenty-one years old give or take.

Is there any men in his time, riding a horse while commanding battle thirsty Steppe warriors toward the vast plains, the scent of the grass, the caress of the wind around them, fighting for glory, honour, wealth and power, deciding the lot in the world, with nothing but blood, sweat, steel and tears?

Riding horses, sure.

But leading ten thousand men, fully armed, with bows, arrows spears and sword, riding a horde of horses that bring about clouds of dust wherever they go, moving wherever his banner pointed towards

Can they understand his feeling? Can they understand the excitement, the blood pumping, the anxiousness, the surreal feeling?

That feeling of power in your hand?

Of course, in some novels he read where the protagonist travels through time, they calm themselves in battle. As easy as that. Just say calm down and then you calm down. But is that real life?

Could you really calm down when you said calm down?

When surrounded by so many lives that depends on you, and threats of death are all over you? Can you clam down for an hour?

How about two hours? Or three hours? Can you still calm down when you see your soldiers being cut down in front of you?

Seeing the brutal and gruesome death of people you just called comrade?

Hearing screams and sound of steel slashing through flesh. That is the kind of sound that you hear, the sound of flesh being cut and the screams after

The kind of sound that lingers on even after the battle.

It is easy to say calm yourself when you’re sitting at home, behind a computer screen, typing words, denouncing military commanders that got worked up

But unless you stand on the battlefield and feel the atmosphere of such place, you would not understand

The best way, Aeryon could describe it, is like he is a rockstar on a concert stage, and his every move elicited greet cheer. Even artist get carried away in such an atmosphere. An atmosphere filled with electrifying energy of the audience.

Of even international star would get carried away in such a situation, how could it not affect Aeryon.

Before he is Aeryon, he is James.

He did not live a bad life.

An ordinary life.

There is nothing toe extraordinary about him

He is not a genius.

Not a hard worker either. He did what he is told to do and stand up for thing he could not stand

There is circumstances in life where he needs to sometimes give up. There is not a lot of fight. He could barely remember the last time he was in a fight.

It was so long ago for him.

An ordinary life.

A simple life.

An enviable life to some

But there is nothing extraordinary about it. The world is at peace, and a world in peace with so many modern conveniences has made many people mellow.

The last war that happened in his world that pit the west and Asia, is a war he did not participate in.

And that war was swift.

Nothing extraordinary.

He is an ordinary man.

But that ordinary man now leads ten thousand men in battle.

And it is not the kind of battle you do with range weapons.

You fought hand to hand, sword to sword, spear to spear.

The blood would splash toward you, you could see the eyes of the people you killed in front of you before they die.

You could smell the blood, feel the heat leaving the body of the dead

James.....an ordinary person is now a warlord of a large army. And he is no longer ordinary. The world he is living in right now is not a world at peace

Instead, it is a chaotic world, a chaotic era.

A warring era.

An era of great change.

In Yan, the people could no longer bear the injustice of their existence.

The nobles eat food and have big belly while the poor had to eat their own children, the children had to eat their own parent, the scholars plans for the world, playing a game of thrones among the warlords.

In Western Zhou, the games of nobles and kings slowly eroding the foundation of the kingdom.

A period of decline is not far away, the four princes fought for the throne, the empress and the concubines fight a secret war, ministers casting lots, the military is in disarray with military commander being caught in the whirlpool of politics.

The day the current Emperor of Western Zhou dies, that would be the beginning of the decline of this kingdom.

In Roma, a great social unrest would happen with the migration of the barbarians clans and tries toward Roma

Aeryon knows all of this. Some he knows because of the book that he had read. The others he got from the information that his spies told him.

This is what he means an era of great change. There is danger. And there is an opportunity. In every danger, there is an opportunity of you could see it and grasp it at the right moment

A danger to someone is an opportunity to others.

Aeryon sighed. He sighed because the decision he had to made is a big one. And if he is an irresponsible person, this responsibility would be thought of lightly.

But precisely because he thought of the people under him, that he is responsible, that he feel heavy making a decision.
