Chapter 196: Four Wolves
Chapter 196: Four Wolves
"hah!"
The battlefield crackled with tension as Chu Yan initiated a stabbing attack, met by Belarion swift response, wielding his glaive with precision.
At the crucial juncture, just before their weapons made contact, the spear shifted ever so slightly in the opposite direction.
The minute adjustment, mere centimetres in distance, had unforeseen consequences.
This subtle movement created an opening, allowing Chu Yan to execute an incredible maneuvers.
As the glaive made contact with the shifted spear, the force intended to transmit between the weapons was disrupted, its impact lessened.
In that fleeting moment, Chu Yan seized the opportunity with astounding agility.
With lightning reflexes, Chu Yan dismounted from his horse, leaping into the air with astonishing acrobatics.
His airborne body surged forward, aiming a powerful kick squarely at Belarion chest. The suddenness and precision of his maneuver caught Belarion by surprise.
The force behind Chu Yan’s aerial assault was immense, channeling both his agility and strength into a single devastating strike.
The impact of his kick reverberated through the air, aimed at disrupting Belarion stance and exploiting the split-second advantage gained from the shifted spear.
The unexpected and unorthodox nature of Chu Yan’s aerial assault caught Belarion off guard, leaving him unable to retract his glaive in time to counter the maneuvers.
With the glaive committed to its trajectory, Belarion found himself defenceless against Chu Yan attack.
The force behind Chu Yan’s striking kick landed squarely on Belarion chest, the impact jolting him from his horse with stunning force.
Helpless in the face of this unexpected assault, Belarion was forcefully dismounted, his body crashing forcefully onto the unforgiving ground below.
The resounding impact echoed across the battlefield, the clash of bodies against earth a testament to the sudden turn of events.
Belarion warriors were all shocked but before they could rush and attack Chu Yan, Chu Yan kicks Belarion horse and using that rebounding force he somersaulted in the air and jump back on his horse
"We will meet again, Belarion of Brolgadhr!" Chu Yan shouted as he pulls the reins of his horse and rushed toward his soldiers
’Retreat!" Chu Yan shouted and just like that the battle is now over
And like the tide receding, they recede away from the battlefield, the path toward the centre of the city is open, Chu Yan and his forces retreated, Belarion won the battle
Aeryon won the city and the north area of the city has been truly pacified.
...
The battle rages on the other side of the city but it would not be long now before it is pacified.
On the northern side of the city, Aeryon had captured the key location
The central commanded centre of the city was captured, the granary and the weapon supplies area are also captured.
Its capture provided unparalleled strategic advantage, enabling him to exert influence and coordinate efforts across the conquered part of the city.
Moreover, securing the granary and the weapon supplies area is important.
These key logistical hubs ensured sustenance for Aeryon forces and secured the arsenal necessary to fortify their position and repel any counteroffensives.
The successful capture of these vital locations bolstered Aeryon foothold in the northern expanse of the city.
The unfurling of the Brolgadhr tribe’s banner, emblazoned with the emblem of a red wolf, stood as a symbol of their triumphant conquest amid the chaos of battle.
This historic victory marked a significant milestone, an achievement not witnessed in many generations.
For centuries, the impenetrable walls of the Yan Empire’s cities had stood as formidable barriers, repelling incursions from the tribes of the Southern Great Steppe.
Aeryon successful breach of the city’s defense shattered this longstanding invincibility, and when the news spread, it will send ripples of realization across the Steppe.
The breaking of the city’s defense served as a clarion call, a beacon of opportunity beckoning to the tribes of the Southern Great Steppe.
It signified a pivotal moment, an indication that the once-unassailable Yan Empire was vulnerable, its strength wavering.
The historic conquest by the Brolgadhr tribe served as a rallying cry for the other tribes, igniting a fervour among them to settle old grievances and reclaim what they perceived as rightfully theirs.
The weakness of the Yan Empire would spur a collective sentiment among the tribes—a time to seize the opportunity, to reclaim their honor, and to settle scores that had remained unresolved for generations.
Aeryon could already predicted it. A catalyst. A bush fire that would be fanned by a divine wind to change a bush fire into one prairie fire
A call of the crows.
One that would echo across the Southern Great Steppe, emboldening other tribes to rise against the weakened Yan Empire and heralding a new era
Aeryon wanted to designate an enemy for the Steppe. Aeryon walk alongside the city walls and look around the city and look at the banner and he smiles.
" One day, my banner will flutter all over the world. This is the first step of my one thousand miles journey" he mutters to himself as he climbed down the walls and began riding his horse surveying the area, talk with the soldiers, and make sure the order that he gave is followed to the letter.
It is also time for him to make sure that any transgression that happened is to be punished according to law.
Aeryon took a look of the banner that is put on the city walls and the important structure and he smiles
"It really does look good" he thought to himself.
The banner of the Brolgadhr tribe was modified by Aeryon.
Because of the status of the Brolgadhr tribe in the past, the Brolgadhr tribe had a banner of their own but that banner is rarely used because the Brolgadhr tribe was never a warring tribe nor it is a powerful tribe.
Aeryon as the one who revive this small tribe into a large tribe met with the Ashana before his expedition toward the South.
He wanted to modify the banner and as such, he needs to ask the permission of the Ashana. Because every banner has a meaning.
Those who have a banner is a tribe that has long history or a strong tribe that rises from a small tribe.
Small tribes could also create their own banner but this banner did not have any meaning other than to differentiate them from other tribes.
It is only if that tribe makes an achievement and survive through the times, that the banner would have some meaning to it.
When a tribe is conquered, their banner would be seized. Sometimes, it would be made as a decoration in the tent of the conqueror.
Sometimes, it would be destroyed or burned. And sometimes, the design of that banner would be incorporated into the banner of the conqueror.
Each method has a reason.
When a banner of a tribe is being seized by a stronger tribe, if they make it as a decoration, it is meant to show the strength of that conqueror tribe.
In such cases, the tribes that has been conquered could still be spared. It is an act of humiliation. There is also a chance that when two tribes fought each other, one of the tribes would steal the banner of their opponent. When this happens, the morale of that tribes whose banner is being stolen would drop.
Banner guardian is one of the positions of the army in the Steppe warrior’s military.
By taking the banner and putting it as decoration, it is an insult to that tribe. And a humiliation.
Then there is the burning and destroying of banner. This would happen in a life and death battle between tribes
When the tribes are destroyed, the tribe that destroy it would also destroy the banner of that tribe
And as for the third method is incorporating the banner of the loser into the banner of the winner, there is only a few cases like this.
This is usually when the two tribes that fight each other, is the offshoot of a main tribe or a tribe who have amicable relations with each other and usually these kinds of tribes would not fight each other to death
The loser in this kind of conflict between two tribes that shares same kind of lineage would end in the loser subjugated but not killed, spared and assimilated to that tribe.
There are also cases where two close tribe, one is strong and one is weak and the weak assimilated themselves into the strong tribe and the strong tribe incorporate that loser tribe banner design into their banner
As for the banner of Brolgadhr tribe, since it is a new beginning, Aeryon had discuss the matter many times with the Ashana and then the design is a wolf head.
This wolf head is painted white. But the name of the banner is the Red Wolf Banner. There is a folklore story in the Steppe about the Red Wolf
There is the Black Wolf, The White Wolf, the Grey Wolf. This is among the great wolves in the folklore of the Marynku people
Wolves have always been close with the nomadic people
