Chapter 105: Duhai Tribe
Chapter 105: Duhai Tribe
The Chagai tribe’s alliances with the Nergui and Ultar tribes in the far north of the Southern Great Steppe have solidified their regional relationships.
These alliances were cemented through marriages, forging bonds of kinship and mutual support.
However, their relations with the Haltur tribe have been marked by ongoing skirmishes and animosity, spanning three decades of grudges and rivalries.
The Chagai tribe, once a dominant force, has now become a shadow of its former self. Through their cooperation, Aeryon believe that the Chagai might hope to reclaim their former glory and safeguard their position on the Great Steppe.
Three decades ago, a fateful hunting trip involving the chiefs of the Haltur and Chagai tribes set in motion a long-standing rivalry.
These two chiefs, who were cousins, embarked on the hunting expedition together, venturing into the area of Burak.
During their journey, they encountered a white wolf, a powerful wolf in the Steppe. But that is not the only thing that made them so precious.
A white wolf represent a certain kind of symbol, an omen of great fortune, just like a blood moon.
Upon their return to their respective tribes, a tragic incident unfolded as the two chiefs retell the story of their hunt.
The chief of Haltur had an arrow embedded in his back, while the chief of Chagai had an arrow lodged in his shoulder.
Each chief accused the other of being the aggressor, claiming that the opposing chief had shot them.
The chief of Haltur maintained that the chief of Chagai had deliberately targeted him, prompting him to retaliate with his own arrow.
However, the chief of Chagai vehemently denied being the perpetrator and asserted that it was an unfortunate case of mistaken identity.
According to his account, another person who had been following them mistakenly shot the chief of Haltur.
Unfortunately, both chiefs succumbed to their injuries shortly after the incident, leaving a lingering cloud of uncertainty over the true events that transpired.
With no clear evidence or witnesses to determine who was at fault, the rivalry between the Haltur and Chagai tribes was born.
Fuelled by a mix of unresolved grievances, familial ties, and the tragic loss of their leaders, the animosity between the two tribes persisted for three decades.
The incident became a point of contention and a source of deep-seated resentment, leading to frequent skirmishes and clashes between their respective warriors.
The generations that followed inherited the rivalry and carried it forward, even as the original circumstances became clouded by time and subjective accounts.
The Haltur and Chagai tribes found themselves locked in a cycle of conflict, each side holding onto their version of events, seeking retribution, and perpetuating the animosity that originated from that ill-fated hunting trip.
This is the source of Haltur and Chagai tribe rivalries. By now, old grudges and new grudges have melded together and it is the kind of grudges that is hardest to resolve.
As for the relationship between the Chaga tribe and Duhai tribe...the relationship between the Chagai tribe and the Duhai tribe has been characterized by an ambivalent attitude rather than deep-seated resentment.
While occasional clashes have occurred, both tribes have generally maintained a sense of contentment with their respective lands and power.
Trade between the Chagai and Duhai tribes has taken place, indicating a level of interaction and cooperation.
These trade exchanges could have fostered a degree of understanding and mutual benefit between the two tribes.
While conflicts may have arisen from time to time, they were likely limited in scope and not driven by territorial ambitions or a desire for dominance.
The Chagai tribe, under the leadership of Chief Chadha, has prioritized stability and security within their own territory rather than actively seeking expansion into the lands of the Duhai tribe.
Similarly, the Duhai tribe appears to have maintained a similar perspective, focusing on the preservation of their own lands and maintaining a balance of power rather than engaging in aggressive territorial disputes.
By avoiding unnecessary conflicts and prioritizing trade, both tribes have likely found a way to navigate their shared territory without escalating tensions.
Now, with Aeryon expedition targeting the Duhai tribe, the dynamics between the Chagai and Duhai tribes may be altered.
The Chagai tribe’s support and alliance with Aeryon could introduce a new element of influence and potentially reshape the dynamics of power
he realizes that Chadha is the ideal partner for an ally in this part of the region.
Aeryon recognizes the value of having allies who do not harbour excessive ambitions, as it aligns with his own vision and goals.
Chief Chadha contentment with the Chagai tribe’s current territory and power makes him a reliable and stable ally.
Aeryon appreciates the fact that Chadha is not driven by aggressive expansionist tendencies but instead focuses on maintaining the stability and security of his own tribe.
having trustworthy allies like Chief Chadha can bring numerous advantages.
alliance with the Chagai tribe expands Aeryon influence and establishes a solid network of connections in the region.
Aeryon was quite happy with what he achieved. He gad gained an ally out of nowhere. Utgard is no longer his only allky and that made him more cionfidnet for the thinsg he has to do later
In the distance, the sun sets, and darkness began to dim the world.
...
The night came and passes and the dawn came.
As the first light of dawn spreads across the Great Steppe, Aeryon wakes before his warriors, filled with a sense of anticipation.
He looks at the expansive land in front of him, smiles and takes in the sunlight. He takes a deep breath
"Clear skies, breezy winds and untainted air. It is like heaven"
Aeryon has now been used to living in this world and even the cold hard ground is no longer problem for him when he wanted to sleep.
But one thing that he like the most about this world is the untainted nature. The air, the wind, the sun, all of it felt like he is in paradise
In his time, even breathing could make you get some disease. Chemicals all around, cancers are sky high, people dying for inexplicable reason from some diseases that keep evolving. Yes, this world also has its own fair share of diseases but it also have some things that his world did not have.
Aeryon always felt excited in this world. There is still so many things to explore, there is still so many things to discover
Aeryon felt like he is born at the beginning of the world with so many parts of the world still remain unexplored, just waiting for a bold adventurer to come out and discover all of it
There is also the fresh air. It felt a different air entirely. And each time he breathes, she did not have to worry whether there is harmful chemical in the air or not.
Then he went to the war camp.
The camp is alive with the stirring of his men, their horses neighing and stamping, ready for the day’s conquest. Aeryon mounts his horse, his heart filled with a mixture of excitement and determination.
With a force now bolstered by the warriors of the Chagai tribe, Aeryon leads around one thousand three hundred men towards the Duhai tribe.
As he rides, thoughts of Belarion progress against the Kanun tribe occupy his mind. If Belarion has been successful in his mission, he should know the next steps to take.
Aeryon issues simple instructions to Belarion and his men, confident in their understanding of the plan.
Belarion, having conquered the Kanun tribe, should be heading west from east to meet them.
Of course, this if he succeeds
Aeryon, approaching from the north, will advance southwards towards the Duhai tribe. Mayeux’s arrival may be delayed, but he can serve as a reinforcement if needed.
"If everything goes to plan, this would be an easy fight"
He spurs his horse forward, the thundering hooves resonating with determination as they gallop across the grassy expanse of the Steppe.
The wind carries the sound of their charge, howling like wolves, creating an air of intimidation that precedes their arrival at the Duhai tribe.
As they draw nearer, Aeryon focus sharpens, his mind honed for the task at hand.
...
Duhai tribe.
Nestled amidst the vast expanse of the Great Steppe, the Duhai tribe’s territory encompasses a picturesque landscape that exudes tranquillity and natural beauty.
The tribe’s settlements are scattered across an area adorned with rolling hills, lending a sense of serenity and protection to their dwellings.
As the sun rises over the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the land, the Duhai tribe awakens
The air around the area is crisp and invigorating, carrying the refreshing scents of wildflowers and the earthy aroma of the grasslands.
Gentle breezes sweep through the tall grass, creating a mesmerizing ripple effect that seems to dance in harmony with the wind.
The tribe’s settlements are strategically positioned near a network of streams that branch out from the majestic Empatarah River, the lifeblood of the Central Steppe.
These streams meander through the Duhai territory, weaving a network of waterways that provide sustenance and vitality to the surrounding lands.
The gurgling of the crystal-clear water as it cascades over rocks creates a soothing melody that resonates throughout the area.
The Duhai tribe dwellings, made predominantly of sturdy tents and temporary structures, are arranged in a cohesive manner along the banks of the streams.
Watchtowers, constructed atop the highest hills, offer vantage points to keep a vigilant eye on the surroundings, ensuring the safety and security of the tribe’s inhabitants.
The landscape boasts a vibrant tapestry of colours, with lush green grass carpeting the expansive plains.
Wildflowers of various hues, from vibrant yellows and purples to delicate pinks and whites, add splashes of colour to the verdant backdrop.
The fertile soil nurtures an abundance of vegetation, providing ample grazing grounds for the tribe’s livestock, including horses, sheep, and other animals that roam freely across the open plains.
The idyllic setting of the Duhai tribe’s territory fosters a deep connection to nature and a harmonious coexistence with the land.
The tribe’s members cherish the natural resources that surround them, utilizing them sustainably and with great reverence.
They live in harmony with the rhythms of the Steppe, embracing a simple yet fulfilling way of life.
With a population of approximately one thousand individuals, their fighting force is comprised of five hundred skilled horse riders, the backbone of their defensive capabilities.
They could not recruit other because the others are either too old or too young leaving them with only five hundred men that could fight.
While the tribe’s size may seem modest, their limited number of able-bodied men does not equate to weakness.
And the reason why they are not weak is because of their chief
Durka the Berserker!
