Chapter 38: Mysterious Beings

The forest was quiet, unnaturally so. Not even the rustling of leaves or chirping of birds broke the silence as Coris stepped through the winding path that led to the Stone Arch—a crumbling, ancient ruin hidden deep within the Valley of Ghosts. Dressed in a dark, militaristic cloak, her crimson eyes gleamed with anticipation. Her stride was calm, yet each step felt like it carried the weight of consequence.

A figure emerged from the mist beneath the Arch. Tall and cloaked in jet-black robes with a hood that concealed most of his face, he stood with a stillness that unnerved even Coris. A chill ran down her spine, but she forced herself to stay composed.

"You’re late."he said coldly.

The cloaked figure raised his head slightly. "Time is a commodity we possess in abundance, General Coris."

Coris frowned. "Sorry for that.Do you have it?"

Without a word, the figure drew a small, glowing orb from his cloak. It pulsed with a reddish-black aura—ominous, living. The Orb of Reverence. Its power was rumored to drain vitality, corrupting anything it touched.

Coris took the orb reverently, her fingers trembling just slightly as she grasped it . Her mind raced back to the Ghost Village. She could control power now and could destroy if she wanted.

"With this, I’ll destroy the Ghost Village. Dominic and Lady Fares will die, just as you asked."

The cloaked figure nodded slowly. "Yes. But be mindful—your part in this is nearing its end."

Her eyes narrowed. "What does that mean?" She hadn’t expected such words from him. Fear creeped into her.

"Of you fail this mission, you will be killed. I have no intentions of wasting time on a liability. Besides, some other hands are also attempting to do what you are doing. So it is a game of who gets his head first."

No sooner had he spoken those words than the sky darkened unnaturally. Seven distinct portals tore through the air behind him, rippling the atmosphere like a stone striking water. Through a magnetic field of attraction, he was sucked into the portals and disappeared out if thin air.

Coris stared at the devoid space. Shock still etched on her face. This was seeming to be extremely destructive now. If she wasted time, she might end up losing and getting killed.

She clenched the orb in her hands and a sudden confidence rose within her. She stared in determination. She hasn’t betrayed her people for nothing. No one was going to make her sacrifice useless. This in mind, she slowly left the area.

The cloaked figure appeared before seven beings. The outmost surrounding proved that they were on a different background. Seven beings sitting on seven thrones.

The first was tall and shrouded in ice, frost clinging to the ground around his feet. His eyes were cold and they felt blind but hid perception was still obvious. He had Thorn and conquered so many demons and beings. He was still a legend.–Drosk Frost.

The second was draped in flame, his eyes glowing like smoldering coals. Flames? Not just any kind of Flames. He was encloaked with a demonic flame. His robe was made and stitched out fire. Hid name, Flane Syera.

The third had no face, only a shifting mask that changed expression constantly. He had the ability to hallucinate. He was known his awful manipulations and was even dreaded for his supposed power of mind control. He was known as Hallucinator.

The fourth’s body shimmered with stars—like the night sky had taken form. A prove of demonic angel. It soared in its contrasting power. It was a brutal figure. She was known for silent kills. Anorak.

The fifth oozed darkness itself, a void walking in flesh. He looked like a normal average being but then he had the glamour of a demon. He had appetite for blood and was simply referred to as Blood King.

The sixth carried chains that rattled with every movement, each link etched with names of the damned. It’s head was nothing but skull. He was brutally viewed and his scythe was extremely large. He was Scorn.

And the seventh, the smallest, was a childlike figure—but with eyes so ancient and cruel they could a full grown man tumble in fear. He was simply the Old child.

The cloaked figure turned to them and knelt.

"My Lords."

The Flane spoke first. His voice crackled like fire on dry wood. "You have done well, Messenger. The orb has been delivered. The Ghosts shall fall."

The Blood King followed, his voice deep and cavernous. "The power Dominic wields cannot be allowed to flourish. Nor can the prophecy be allowed to be fulfilled. "

The cloaked figure looked between them, unsettled but holding his ground.

The Scorn laughed darkly. "You caused a misunderstandingin Coris. She thinks the power is at no price but it is. Power is earned. Not given."

The Old child stepped forward. "Your service is noted. But you will not live to see the Ghosts fall." His thick voice rumbled in the air.

The cloaked figure, still kneeling, raised his head to her. "I serve you absolutely wear you said I should do was what I did."

The Frost presence grew colder. "She used herself. We merely accelerated her fare."

Meanwhile, miles away, the scorched battlefield surrounding the Ghost Village still smoldered. Lady Fares stood on top of the hill, breathing heavily, watching the horizon for any signs of another assault. Lady Fares had returned from her own battle, blood spattered across her cloak. The Iron Fisted Monkeys had been slain—one after the other by her deadly shadow magic. She had emerged from the darkness like a whisper of death, and when she struck, it was with terrifying precision.

But she could not sense what was now brewing far beyond the mountains. Coris was coming with full rage and an internal battle was only but about to begin.

War was coming.

And this time, it wasn’t just the Ghosts who would be wiped. Dominic was going to be a source target.
