Wandering Meteor -
Chapter 44 Macro and Micro
Chapter 44: Chapter 44 Macro and Micro
The Wandering suddenly had a feeling.
It might be done for, thoroughly so.
With two such massive planets colliding at such speeds, it’s feared that even atoms could be shattered, let alone whether atomic nuclei could withstand the impact.
But, even if the atomic nuclei could hold up, if the atoms were destroyed, metal atoms would no longer be metal, and with the body’s demise, it too would vanish from the universe.
Yet, it didn’t want to perish, it still wanted to continue wandering!
Perhaps driven by this intense will to survive, it saw a glimmer of hope.
It suddenly realized that both planets were spherical, which meant the area of collision would only be at the most protruding part. Even if the enormous force destroyed the protrusion and increased the area of collision, it should not increase by much.
After seeing a ray of hope, the Wandering immediately controlled its body to disintegrate its metal ball, over thirty thousand meters in diameter, into individual atomic states, with each atom containing a Consciousness Particle, frantically controlling the metal atoms to scatter in all directions.
Boom!
Just as the Wandering disintegrated into an atomic state and fled, the two planets collided thunderously.
First to collide were the atmospheres.
The atmopsheric layers at the collision faces of the two planets compressed against each other, causing the atmospheric height to sharply halve, and the air density to quickly increase. When the pace of atmospheric contraction couldn’t keep up with the compression, it would spew out to the sides, generating a gaseous space turbulence!
After the atmospheric layers, came the oceans on the surfaces of the two planets.
However, the depth of the oceans at the collision faces was but a droplet on a human body for the two planets, splattering in all directions upon impact, leaving little aftermath.
Lastly, were the planets themselves.
At the moment of collision, the immense shock force invaded the crusts, instantly turning thousands of kilometers of crust into dust. A thick, almost tangible wave of dust rippled out, spreading far beyond to the vast cosmic space!
When the enormous shock force ran through the entire bodies of the two planets from the point of impact, both instantly deformed into an elliptical shape, then rebounded away from each other with the elasticity from the collision.
The above is merely the collision at the macro level.
The collision at the micro level was equally fierce.
Countless molecules of matter were torn into atoms, and under the immense pressure of the planetary collision, the atoms split apart, with atomic nuclei and electrons compressed and shot out, forming ultra-high-speed particle flows that scattered into cosmic space.
The destructive power of these cosmic rays at the micro level was no less significant than that at the macro level.
And they were filled with eeriness and sorcery.
For instance, a portion of cosmic rays hit a dinosaur on Giant Dragon Star, with ultra-high-speed electrons forcefully invading the interior of certain atoms, causing neutral atoms to become negatively charged, thoroughly altering the original properties of the material and inducing mutations in the organism.
What’s more terrifying is when an ultra-high-speed atomic nucleus invades the interior of certain atoms, it could combine with its atomic nucleus, causing the atom to become positively charged and changing the affiliation of the atom.
As we know, an atom is made up of a nucleus and electrons, and the weight of the nucleus (protons) is what determines the elemental affiliation. If the number of protons in an atomic nucleus suddenly changes, it could transform a carbon atom into an iron ion or a gold ion, the specific new affiliation depending on the number of protons in the nucleus.
However, we can speculate.
If the carbon atoms that make up bones were to suddenly become iron ions, then the bones would become blocks of iron, or part bone, part iron, and would be positively charged. The consequences are unimaginable, and this kind of change that affects the material’s fundamental structure is the most terrifying, with impacts that are difficult to estimate.
Besides that, another situation might occur.
When a nucleus intrudes an atom, it can steal some of the atom’s electrons, causing originally one atom to suddenly become two atoms or ions. This can result in horrific mutations in living organisms.
The above describes the process of destruction on a microscopic level.
It also explains how cosmic radiation affects living organisms.
On Giant Dragon Star, many dinosaurs mutated after being affected by the radiation; some gained the ability to control lightning, some grew an extra leg, some had their heads enlarge threefold, some grew a lump of flesh on their bodies, while others took on bizarre forms with three heads and six arms, unrecognizable to their own kind.
In short, the mutations were varied and numerous, too many to fully describe.
Let’s talk about the macroscopic level instead.
After colliding, both Lu Chen and Feather Robe Star had their planetary bodies transformed and deformed.
Luckily, however, the two planets did not shatter. It was just that Feather Robe Star was less dense than Lu Chen, so its shape was more severely deformed.
This was also thanks to their close proximity, which meant that the combined potential energy wasn’t too great, and because they retracted their gravity immediately to avoid further consequences, or the outcomes would have been unimaginable.
"So it turns out you’re not that impressive after all, yet you had the audacity to claim you’d annihilate me?"
After the unexpected planetary collision, Lu Chen found that he had gained the upper hand and sent out a taunting thought.
Feather Robe Star sneered, "Hah, that was just a warm-up. You’ll soon witness my true power!"
"Then show me, or you may well end up dead right here!"
Lu Chen didn’t care whether Feather Robe Star was just bluffing or truly had a trump card; he simply attacked first as a gesture of respect, controlling his planetary body and charging towards Feather Robe Star once again.
He did not use lava attacks or Annihilation Beams or other long-range tactics.
For planets of their magnitude, such attacks would be ineffective unless they were incredibly massive. Otherwise, they would simply deliver material into the embrace of the other planet. Hence, without absolute certainty, he definitely wouldn’t make a move that would end up being counterproductive.
"That Metal Ball has already been smashed to bits, and you’re next!"
Feather Robe Star let out a rather smug sneer, also controlling its planetary body to fly towards Lu Chen.
Feather Robe Star’s thoughts were similar to Lu Chen’s; knowing that spraying lava was ineffective against planets of their caliber, of course, it would not act rashly.
In cosmic space, one could see Lu Chen and Feather Robe Star controlling their massive bodies and rapidly approaching each other, seemingly intending to collide again.
However, when they closed to within ten thousand miles, Lu Chen and Feather Robe Star simultaneously tangled each other with gravity and spun their planets to produce a tail-whipping effect, intending to fling each other away.
Thus, it could be seen that what were originally two colliding planets, under the action of gravity, began to orbit each other.
Coincidentally, because the distance between the two planets was just within the Roche limit and their masses were nearly equal, both ends of the planets experienced strong differential gravitational pulls from the other, starting to tear one another apart.
Initially intending to use gravity to fling the other away, neither expected such an unintended result!
Both Lu Chen and Feather Robe Star were very surprised, whether it was the earlier collision of the planets or the current mutual tearing within the Roche limit, it was beyond their expectation.
However, at such a juncture in the battle, both were full of fighting spirit and neither wanted to show any weakness. They each controlled an increment in their gravity, attempting to tear the other apart before being torn themselves!
