Chapter 303: Was He Telling the Truth?
Dan Sect Disciple: "???"
What the h*ll? Excuse me?
What’s wrong with the women from the Holy Land of Jade Pool?
If you want spicy strips, just ask for spicy strips—why act like it’s some serious business?
He was nearly scared out of his soul.
The Dan Sect disciple finally exhaled in relief, his previously straightened back slumping again. He said helplessly, “So you were just looking for spicy strips? Why didn’t you say so earlier? I recently stocked up a batch—there’s Cow-and-Horse Combo, Spicy Boar, Greatsword Jerky, Tear-Apart-Your-Mom Beef Jerky... Which one do you want? I’ll give it to you for free!”
The woman looked utterly confused, her face growing cold. A few vines shot up from the ground, instantly binding the Dan Sect disciple tightly.
“You messing with me?” she growled. “I said I wanted Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips, not this Cow-and-Horse nonsense or whatever ‘Spicy Boar’... And I have no idea what you’re even talking about!”
“Hey, don’t get violent!” the Dan Sect disciple panicked, straining his neck as he shouted, “Those ARE all Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips! If you don’t believe me, I’ll take one out for you to see!”Hearing that, the Jade Pool disciple released him, curious to see what kind of trick he was trying to pull.
He wore a bitter expression as he dug through his storage ring for a while, then pulled out a colorful heap of packaging and dumped it on the table, forming a small pile.
“There, these are Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips.”
“You really think I’m that easy to fool?” the woman in green sneered, killing intent practically seeping from her eyes.
She pointed at the packaging on the table and snarled, “I asked for a spiritual herb. Look carefully—do any of these messy things look remotely like spiritual herbs? And you’re telling me this is Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips? Do you think we Jade Pool disciples are idiots?!”
The Dan Sect disciple was being choked so hard by the vines his eyes were rolling back, but he still tried to explain:
“Cough, cough—Senior, this really is Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips. It’s food! It was never some kind of spiritual herb...”
“Hmph! Still trying to trick me?!” The vines tightened. Her face darkened as she continued pressing him: “Speak! Where is Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips, really?!”
At this point, the Dan Sect disciple was so strangled he couldn’t get a word out.
And with his cultivation suppressed, he couldn’t resist.
As he struggled violently, his foot accidentally kicked the table, sending the pile of spicy strips tumbling to the floor.
One packet happened to roll right up to the woman’s feet.
She frowned and picked up the bag that emitted a strange, tantalizing aroma.
Right in the center of the bag were four large characters: Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips, with three round little words underneath — Devilishly Spicy.
“Could this really be Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips?”
She glanced at the disciple—who had now passed out from the strangulation three meters away—then crouched down and started sifting through the pile of spicy strips.
Not all of them were labeled "Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips." There were plenty of odd names. But regardless of the name, the upper right corner of each bag had a distinctive red circle, and inside it were two golden characters—Flavor Dragon.
“So... he was telling the truth? Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips really aren’t spiritual herbs?”
She murmured to herself, her expression flickering with doubt and realization.
Whatever. Better to bring these back for now.
Even if they weren’t the exact Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips the Real Person was seeking, at least she’d found some clues. Better than returning empty-handed.
At the very least... she wouldn’t be punished by the Real Person, right?
Holy Land of Jade Pool, Luoshen Palace.
Real Person Yuyao sat at the head seat, brows furrowed. Before her were the disciples and elders she had sent out to search for Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips.
The reason for her frown?
Her palace currently reeked of a bizarre stench.
At first, the smell had seemed rather appetizing—pleasant, even.
But after lingering for a while, it developed a sour tinge, like the saliva of mortals... and gradually began to stink.
And the source of this stench? The mountain of unknown items piled high on the palace floor before her.
“You’re saying these are Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips?!”
Real Person Yuyao’s face was ashen.
If it had been just one person who brought these back, maybe it would’ve been excusable.
But every single team had returned with the same things—or nothing at all.
“Please judge wisely, Real Person,” said an elder as he stepped forward, bowed three times, and respectfully explained:
“We initially searched near the beast dens of the Desolate Region and the depths of the Ten Thousand Mountains, but found nothing after much effort.
So we shifted tactics and started searching within the major sects. That’s when we discovered that these Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips were already popular among sects. It’s just that people usually call them by whatever’s on the packaging—like Cow-and-Horse Combo or Kissy Mouth, and so on. That’s why our intelligence department couldn’t detect them until now. But these really are Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips.”
Real Person Yuyao listened quietly, then fell into silence.
She picked up one of the spicy strip bags, tore it open, and immediately the pungent smell intensified. Everyone in the room started sniffing instinctively.
Some Jade Pool disciples even looked at the spicy strips and swallowed.
“Hmph, food made by other sects is that tasty?”
Real Person Yuyao noted their reactions, plucked out one strip, and popped it into her mouth. Her eyes widened at once.
This taste… was utterly bizarre.
As she chewed, her eyes narrowed, savoring the flavor.
In thousands of years, no food had ever managed to stir her appetite.
But this so-called Flavor Dragon Spicy Strip actually did.
Other cultivators might think it’s just an ordinary snack—at most a novelty—but she didn’t see it that way.
For something to move a Grand Ascension Stage cultivator like her… this could not be ordinary.
She was starting to believe that this was the “spiritual herb” Dan Yun was searching for.
But whether it truly was, only Dan Yun could confirm.
“Where did this item originate? Have you investigated?”
She flicked the orange-red grease from her fingers and exhaled a strong burst of spicy aroma.
“Reporting to the Real Person: it’s said the spicy strips originally came from the Sword Pavilion, and were later spread by disciples from Lingxi Valley and the Dan Sect, quickly gaining popularity across the Cangyun Realm,” one elder replied.
“Oh? Lingxi Valley and Dan Sect?” Real Person Yuyao narrowed her eyes and chuckled coldly:
“So they’re cozy with the Sword Pavilion, and may know its location, hmm?”
No one responded. Even the disciples and elders weren’t sure if Lingxi Valley and the Dan Sect actually knew where the Sword Pavilion or its Patriarch were. But for these spicy strips to spread so quickly, there had to be a bridge of communication.
Find that bridge, and maybe they could find the Sword Pavilion.
In this silence, tacit agreement was almost certain.
“Bring me the Valley Master of Lingxi Valley and the Sect Master of the Dan Sect. This Venerable One shall interrogate them personally.”
Real Person Yuyao grabbed another bag of Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips and tore open a spatial rift.
Through it, everyone could vaguely see it was locked onto the dungeon where Dan Yun was held.
Real Person Yuyao stepped into the rift, her figure vanishing, leaving only her cold voice echoing in the hall:
“Send all these Flavor Dragon Spicy Strips to This Venerable One’s treasury. If anyone dares to sneak a bite—hmph!”
Everyone froze in place, as silent as statues, eyes on the floor.
Privately, they all felt lucky they’d kept a few bags in their storage rings.
Otherwise, everything would’ve been confiscated by Real Person Yuyao.
Jade Pool Dungeon.
Real Person Yuyao tossed a bag of spicy strips in front of Dan Yun, who was currently meditating while hugging a pill cauldron.
“This what you meant by ‘spiritual herb’? This Venerable One found it for you!”
Two spicy strips rolled out of the torn packaging and landed by Dan Yun’s feet.
A burst of explosive aroma instantly filled the dungeon.
Dan Yun stared at the two oily, shiny, unidentified items on the floor, then looked up at Real Person Yuyao.
His expression turned into one of absolute disbelief—as if he were staring at a dumb deer.
