Chapter 274: The Monster That Horrified Monsters [8]

[ZULA]

"You shouldn’t be here," Zaffuto warned as he stared at the defiant woman. He never expected her here and it was driving him crazy. Women were supposed to be kind souls and they were supposed to be the better part of the bond.

They were nurturers by default and yet this woman was here on the battlefield not even batting an eye at the suggestion of joining him in the murders. If he didn’t know her any better, he would have assumed that she was used to war.

But was that what she truly lived for? Was that what their lives were bound to be like? A life that didn’t know the difference between hell and heaven? A lifetime of chaos without reprieve?

Was that what they had all agreed to or was it just an illusion and the mad king would snap out of it soon?

"Of course I don’t. I should be with my husband, but apparently, he has more important things to do than me," Liana said, walking around the bodies, like an inspector determined to check out whether all of this was worth the chaos her husband was causing.

She knew he had a dark heart and all of this should have scared her.

It should have made her want to make a run for it, but instead, she was excited to be her. She even went on to grab one of the bloodied swords on the ground and swung it at a wolf who was staring in shock.

She didn’t mind it when the wolf fell to the ground, dead from the impact of the sword against his neck. It was a clean cut, and his head rolled to the side.

Instead of Liana stepping back, she just smiled at her husband, like this could easily be their wartime activity if that was what Zaffuto wanted of them.

Oh, she had gone nuts.

"What?" Zaffuto asked flustered before he regained his composure. He had never been challenged like this, but was it a challenge when all she wanted was to share the night with her hand on the day that they had just been mated?

Was it too much for her to ask of him when he knew so damn well that their lives were already complicated and that they wouldn’t find a simpler moment with the incoming chaos?

They had both known what they were subscribing to, which was also why this should not have shocked the king and yet she was chuckling and blushing at the same time. What a mess.

"I came for my husband. So, you can either come home with me now, or I will stay and help you murder the rest of the wolves. What is the count you want to achieve tonight?" Liana asked earnestly like they were discussing the weather.

The moon was high up in the sky, shining brightly as the king and queen turned into psychos for the night. It didn’t even seem surprising as Liana dragged her newly acquired sword towards her supposed next victim.

If this was what Zaffuto Hinata wanted for their wedding night, Liana would give it to him.

After all, it wasn’t too much to ask, right? All that the king had to do was say yes and his Erasthai would be there beside him while making the realm bleed. It wasn’t that hard a predicament and yet the king seemed to find it a tad amusing.

"Dressed like that?" Zaffuto asked as his eyes raked over her body for the hundredth time in the past ten minutes. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to take her and then breed her till she wasn’t capable of walking, but at the same time, he wanted to see what she was capable of.

The sinister call in his mind was asking her out, waiting for her to come over to their side so they would be evil and play the devils for the rest of their lives. It wasn’t that hard, but was that what Zaffuto had longed for when he had gone to seek out his mate?

Was this what he was signing for or is it all just some crazy ass situation that he didn’t even know what to deal with?

"Is that a problem?" Liana asked, walking toward her, with her blade in hand.

"Have you ever even killed an apron?" Zaffuto asked, almost like he was expecting her to be creeped out by the fact that she had just taken a life.

It was not what he had thought possible with his Erasthai, but at the same time, the mad king wouldn’t exactly say that he knew who his Erasthai was.

Seven times in a hundred years was never enough.

It was only enough time for them to be certain they were alive and that life was okay. It was just that hard, but then what the fuck did the king expect in the most defiant woman he had ever met and the woman who wasn’t even scared of him?

Was she supposed to bow before him and revert to the ways that made life a tad better or was she supposed to sit like a statue and wait for commands like the Lycans of Kawai?

"I see myself killing you if you don’t hurry the fuck up," Liana said as she stared at the blade in her hands. She wasn’t joking and maybe she was, but the king wasn’t sure of what to make of her threat.

This woman had known what he was and had forced him into her home and even into a seat.

She had scared him the first time and he didn’t want to upset her. But was it an order he was willing to lean into, or was he going to take her out like he had done everyone else that didn’t exist at the moment?

"You’re a feisty little thing. You realize no one will save you from me, right?" Zaffuto remembered as if that were supposed to be a threat. Or maybe he was just saying that to make sure she stayed away.

But then they had long crossed the border between sanity and insanity. He had forced her to that corner over the years and he had made her into a maniac without a weapon.

Here she was with the one weapon that she could swing against him and he was still trying to think of her as a helpless little woman who needed saving. From who though? Was Liana expecting anyone to come and save her from a fate she had resigned to?

"Who told you I needed saving?" Liana asked with a laugh, making the king groan.

"You’re crazy," Zaffuto said like that was supposed to make her feel offended and leave him be. It would have worked on normal women, but Queen Liana Hinata was not just another woman.

She was who she was and she was a determined woman who wouldn’t let go of what she wanted. This man was coming with her or she would bring him down. But was that supposed to be a threat to the mad king who was gifted with immortality and a cursed existence?

"That is not an answer, Shuten," Liana said and Zaffuto growled at her, but she didn’t seem so worried about whatever the fuck he was about to do, she wasn’t scared of him, and the wolves who were still breathing stared at the women like she had a death wish.

"Leave, before I kill you," Zaffuto warned in his cruelest tone.

"Get on with it then. I’m already sleepy as it is," Liana said nonchalantly.
