Chapter 135: Too Hot For You To Hold
[TAMIKO]
Tamiko watched in silence as his father’s wounds closed and his breathing became steady. It was almost like he had given his dear father a miracle drug, when in reality he had just done what would make his erasthai happy.
The boy was still at odds with his father and no one could blame him for wanting to keep his distance. Besides, some wounds were way too deep and would take a lot of time to heal.
"He should be fine now," Tamiko voiced, as he looked at his erasthai who was holding his arm. Kosta looked proud of Tamiko, almost like his erasthai didn’t just tell him that the decision was made solely for the happiness of the barbarian.
But what of Tamiko’s happiness? Would the boy only ever be happy with Kosta and not the rest of the people who cared about him? What about the bonds that had been forced apart? Oh, Tamiko had a lot to think of but he couldn’t do that at the moment.
He didn’t have the time to make scenarios in his head because frankly, he wasn’t even ready to face his own father. So, when the king opened his eyes, Tamiko teleported away from the man, leaving Konstantin and his king in the tent.
"He really does hate me, huh?" King Zaffuto asked when he saw his son disappear like the wind. It hurt his heart; if he was being honest with himself, but perhaps he should have expected that from the boy he owed a happy life anyway.
"You’re up, my king," Kosta said, not commenting on what his king had just said. Besides, even if he was to make a comment, what the fuck was he supposed to say? Whose side was he supposed to be on when they both had his loyalty?
"I wouldn’t blame you; you know. Even I would do whatever it takes to make my son happy," King Zaffuto said and the Lycan chief stared at him wondering what the fuck the king was on this time.
This man was an unpredictable creature and Kosta wasn’t about to pretend that he understood whatever the fuck his master was talking about. If the king wanted them to communicate, then he needed to talk in a language that both of them understood, into whatever the hell he was having in his mind.
Or maybe it was the gibberish caused by his fast and the inane travels he had undertaken in the past weeks.
"I don’t understand, Your Majesty," Igor Konstantin said and the king chuckled lowly in understanding. Of course, he hadn’t imagined the barbarian would start discussing whatever he had heard while they thought him unconscious... But what if he wanted to?
"Whatever you do to keep my son happy, and safe, I won’t get in the way of that. And if ever there comes a day when I get in the way of my son’s happiness and safety, you are under my orders to eliminate me.
"Nothing should push my son back into pain that he cannot understand. You have to protect his happiness, even if it means going to insane venues and doing things that no one in their right mind would ever do.
"Whatever he wants, you make sure you give it to him, alright?" King Zaffuto said, before he realized how that sounded.
It was almost like he was threatening the same man who had just managed to save his life. Oh, he was an ungrateful king, right? Well before Kosta could say anything, the king spoke again.
"I mean... I don’t mean to threaten your mate bond, Konstantin. Even I am not that crazy to come between your mate’s bond. My warning only comes when it is something that is out of the mating bond.
"I don’t know if I am making any sense at the moment, fuck," King Zaffuto said and the Lycan chief stared intently.
He did understand the king’s warning and while it scared the hell out of him, he couldn’t deny the fact that he appreciated the king concreting his statement. Having the Lycan King hovering around their mate bond would put trains to them and honestly, that wasn’t something that Tamiko would appreciate.
Hell, the king himself would probably lose his son in the process, because while Kosta would not be as open with the prince about his father’s orders, Tamiko Hinata was someone with sharp insects.
And he would definitely find out, which wouldn’t end well, seeing as he was so ready to burn the world down just to keep Kosta warm. Those two were dangerous enough on their own, so what of now that they were fully mated and marked?
"I understand, Your Majesty. I wouldn’t expect anything less. We both care very deeply for the prince; perhaps he is our greatest fault, but then his happiness is the one thing I know we both don’t ever compromise on," the Lycan chief said and the king stared proudly.
His own was paved, perhaps obsessively, but loved nonetheless and he wouldn’t wish for it to be in any other way. Granted, Tamiko probably didn’t want to be around the king at the moment, but he was in safe hands regardless.
"Great. We understand each other. Now I just gotta find a way to make the realm ready for him, while I watch from a distance as he burns his enemies. Of course, I’ll be the much-needed backup if ever he needs someone to fuck the realm up really good.
"Maybe that won’t ever be enough for me to earn atonement, but it could be a start, right? Or what do you think, warrior," the king asked and Kosta wondered what was going on in the king’s mind.
This man was insane on so many levels but at the same time, it was impressive how he had long learned that there were things that Tamiko needed to do on his own without his father’s help.
Of course, it wouldn’t hurt for three psychos to go after Grealor together, but maybe this was one the king would have to sit out, right?
"Perhaps a shower would go a long way, if you want to talk to him. You smell like the rotten bodies under the palace... your majesty," Kosta said with a frown, as he clipped his nose with his fingers before adding the last bit with utmost respect.
"Wow, you can’t even have pity on a dying man," the king pouted, and that was the one thing that took Kosta aback. This was new, so new to him, given all his life he had lived to take orders from the king, and he never sounded friendly.
"Well, either that, or we all die from your stench, old man," Tamiko said, making Kosta get up and walk towards his erasthai. He had been sure Tamiko had made a run for it and a download probably showed up in a few days, but seeing him back so soon was comforting.
"What happened to hospitality? Kindness? Offering food? Water? Massaging my back? Help me settle well among you? Do you really hate guests that much?" the king insisted and Tamiko facepalmed.
"Kosta, baby," Tamiko began.
"My soul."
"Has anyone ever shoved a foot high up the king’s ass?"
"Maybe Lord Sadako, but he isn’t here."
"I guess today your king will have to experience that," Tamiko said and his father stared at him, the betrayal and disbelief on his face, not to mention the beautiful pout sitting pretty there.
"Gee fine, I’ll take a shower. You don’t have to be so ’nice’ about it."
"You’re lucky I love you, otherwise, you’d be showering in the river."
"What did you just say?" the king asked softly, his voice coming off like someone who had all the hope in the world.
Well, he couldn’t be blamed because he was hearing his son tell him that he loved him, which probably didn’t mean much, but to King Zaffuto, it was everything. This was one moment he wouldn’t ever be able to forget.
His son, loved him.
"I set up a bathroom for you a few meters away. Please go clean up. Kosta and I will take care of the food. If I am to send you away, I have to at least feed you and make sure you’re healthy," Tamiko said, only for the king to break his leg.
"What if I’m crippled?"
"Oh, you little minx!" Tamiko whined as he chased after his father who was supposed to be crippled. Maybe the whole camping trip wasn’t so bad after all, right? Maybe this war was just another space for the father and son to bond, yeah?
Well, it would have been all nice if the message from Grealor didn’t come.
