Chapter 113: How Dangerous Could The Waters Be?

[KAWAI]

When Gabe had agreed to come to the mating ball with his people, he had known the risks. He knew that he was walking into what could be a trap or a death sentence for him. He knew that everywhere was dangerous and he had hoped.

Perhaps he needed to hope more because right now, he was screwed. There was not a soul that would ever be able to save him from this mess, seeing as the King had already brought the attention of everyone to the podium, again.

King Zaffuto was brutal and a menace and as Geb tried to wake up, he could hear voices, but none stood out more than the Lycan King’s voice. It was a voice that would always haunt him, the voice of the one person who could end him.

Perhaps he was so worried about the future, or maybe, just maybe, Gabe was slowly letting fate take its course.

In the past week I had lost more than he had bargained for. He had been humiliated by the Lycan prince and there was a high chance that his people wouldn’t ever get to trust him again.

He was charged either way because no matter what he did, there was never going to be a chance for him.

Perhaps coming to the Lycan Kingdom like this was the best solution for his tired soul, right? Maybe if the King put an end to the mess, Gabe would feel safer and die peacefully, but then again, wouldn’t that be too much of a stretch?

"I’m only going to ask this once, Gabriel Grealor. Why the fuck would the Chief be apprehensive of you interacting with my boy??" King Zaffuto said to Gabriel who had finally gotten caught up with what was happening.

He was screwed, at least that much was obvious. However, what he hadn’t expected was to see the worried faces of the Lycan prince, the Lycan chief, and the Lycan lord. These people had made his life hard, so maybe he was wrong, yeah?

Well, if only that was the only possibility at the moment, then it could have been easier than doing shit that didn’t make sense to him. But that wasn’t the case. If anything, they were staring at him with pity in their eyes like they didn’t wish for this to be.

"The mating ball just began, Zaffuto. You need to calm down. We can fix all of this once the mating week is over, don’t you think?" Lord Sadako said to the Lycan King who was staring at Gabriel Grealor.

Gabe and the people near the King missed the way the King had referred to Tamiko as his boy. They sure had questions but none of them was brave enough to step up to the King and ask if he got his hair back.

In fact, the Lycan who had seen the King be full of mischief in the past week had simply assumed that the King had referred to Tamiko like that because the boy was the only person they had seen make the big bad King laugh and smile.

That boy had given them back the King they had during the time when Queen Liana was alive and it was tempting to protect Tamiko because with Tamiko, their King was never a devil and then they would have a better home.

And even more importantly, they would be having a humane Zaffuto. However, wishes were simply ever going to be wishes, weren’t they? Maybe they had hoped for too much at the wrong time, because the King wasn’t relenting.

"I asked a question, Gabriel Grealor," the Lycan King said and Tamiko sighed before he tapped into the mind link with Gabe.

Tamiko had promised himself he wouldn’t even try that again, because Gabe didn’t mean shit to him, but he couldn’t let his father be a murderer on the first day he was seen outside the palace. That would be too cruel a fate for the father and son.

’I can’t believe I’m doing this for you, but whatever. Breathe with me, Gabriel. Easy and steady, because if he senses your breathing is off, he will kill you and even I won’t be able to save your life. Can you do that?’ Tamiko asked in the mind link.

Gabe was shocked that taiko had reached out to him. He had been giving up slowly and letting fate take course, but when heard Tamiko’s voice, it was like life had been breathed into him and he wasn’t alone anymore.

’Why are you helping me?’ Gabe asked in the link and Tamiko just looked at his father while he spoke to Gabriel.

’Because I don’t want to make my father a murderer; before you get excited, just know I am doing this for me too. You are mine to kill and no one else’s. So, breathe steady,’ Tamiko said and Gabe almost let out a loud chuckle.

Maybe he was finally going insane but the fact that Tamiko was trying to help him, made him feel wanted, like he was somewhat closer to hope. He hadn’t been rejected, son truly that had to mean something, right?

Well, maybe Gabriel was blind to the Lycan chief who was never going to leave Tamiko’s side and the one person Tamiko would never let go, but then it wasn’t like there was something that he could do about that too, right?

’Good. you’re doing great. Now when Father asks you the questions a third time, answer him respectfully. You can blame me but don’t make it seem like I’m your target, because the Lycans will kill you before he does,’ Tamiko said before cutting off the link.

Expectedly, the Lycan King questioned Gabe again while the rest of the fashion watched. They knew that Gabe was the alpha in Grealor and they knew that if he died, it would be a great loss, so they could only just hope.

Maybe if they held onto faith a little brighter, Gabriel Greater wouldn’t be the fourth death in the Grealor pack, right?

"Sire..." Gabe began as he looked at Tamiko and then the King. It was like he was testing the waters and trying to see what the fuck would happen. He was daring even as he stared at Lord Sadako.

"It was never my intention to scare him," Gabe continued, taking a deep breath as he reached his hand out to Tamiko, but Tamiko just kept his distance.

He wasn’t sure what game was playing at, but he didn’t know any part of it. No matter what happened here, he would always be skeptical of Gabriel Grealor. He hated the man with all he had and did not have.

"It’s true. The Lycan chief is right to be weary of me. I admit, I used to hurt Tamiko back in Grealor. He was a slave in my home, someone everyone could hurt, and I wasn’t the best protector for him either," Gabe said apologetically.

The King let out a warning growl.

Tamiko, Sadako, Kosta, and the Grealor wolves stared at Gabriel, wondering what the fuck he was doing, when the king had clearly taken a liking to the boy. Hell, even the Kawai Lycans knew this was a terrible idea and Gabe needed to take back his words.

"So, I understand why he is weary of me... but Sire, I do not wish him harm. I love him. He is my mate."
