Han Xin stopped contemplating why Princess Xiu kept changing chest sizes and exchanged glances with his cousin. The two of them seemed to be communicating silently. Han Zhan’s eyes suddenly narrowed as he looked at Princess Xiu. "Your Highness, if you don’t mind me asking. How... how did you manage to escape from crown prince Xiang Yu and his heavily guarded military camp?"

This was a question the both of them had been curious about. She was more delicate and fragile when compared to Lieutenant Yi Nuo so how did she do it? Looking at her frame, one wouldn’t think she had a fighting bone in her body. Well, the shallow cut on Han Xin’s neck said otherwise. It wasn’t serious but it showed how restrained she was while wielding the blade.

Xiang Yu had already prepared a story with Lian and Mei because he knew that this would be a point of contention. Lian was so eager to share that she impatiently glanced at her master. He nodded slightly, and like a wind-up toy that had been wound beyond the limit and sent into overdrive, she animatedly spoke.

"Her Highness was so brave. She always keeps a dagger on her. She waited for the Crown Prince who had been drinking to fall asleep. Then she cut her restraints off before slicing a gap in the tent and crawled out." Han Xin’s moving chopsticks stopped for a fleeting moment.

He didn’t show any emotion on his face, but his mind was recalling everything he saw in that tent. There were pieces of rope that had been cut by a blade but there was no cut on the tent. It was untouched, so why was Peng Xiu lying about this? It was obvious that she had fed the maidservant this story.

Mei picked up the tale seamlessly, "We tricked the guard who was watching us. We lured him inside and attacked him. That’s when the princess came in to save us. So, we slipped out of the military camp, and we ran down the mountain. We were so afraid that the Crown Prince would notice something was wrong."

Han Xin, who had been listening intently, glanced at Peng Xiu and asked, "Where did the Crown Prince go? I didn’t find him when I entered the camp."

Xiang Yu stopped eating and glanced at him coldly. "How am I supposed to know where he went? General Han, I was busy running for my life and rolling off a mountain slope all thanks to you," he replied icily.

Why did he feel like he was being interrogated when he was the kidnap victim? Okay, fine, he was the perpetrator, but Han Xin didn’t know that. He then picked up his bowl and drank the remaining soup, his prior elegance gone, before turning to the twins. "Lian, Mei, let’s go."

The twins drank the remainder of their soup and ran after their master to catch up with him. Han Xin and Han Zhan watched them leave each with their own thought. "We won’t leave tomorrow. I need to go back to the empress’s palace to investigate. Something sounds fishy," said Han Xin.

"I will go with you. I am so curious about what environment she grew up in. She seems to have a split personality," replied Han Zhan genuinely curious about this person.

At dinner time the three of them came to the sitting area just in time. Yi Nuo kindly brought over their food just like before but just like in the afternoon, there was no meat. They were served sweet potato and ginger soup which was incredibly warming to the soul. The three of them sat together, looking utterly miserable. They were appreciative but they also loved eating meat more especially the twins.

Mei, ever the optimist, took a spoonful and said, "It’s good," before starting to eat. Lian, on the other hand, pouted, her expression one of deep injustice. "Master, this is torture," she muttered under her breath but she still ate it.

Xiang Yu could feel the weight of their disappointment. When it came to food, he tried to get them the best and seeing them unhappy made him feel uncomfortable. "Don’t worry about it. We will go hunting tomorrow. You will have more meat than you can finish," he said. He could have taken them to the forest at night like he did in the past but since he wasn’t familiar with the mountains here it wasn’t safe. He had to wait for daylight.

The twins felt happier. Their heads lowered and they ate happily. The soup wasn’t actually bad. It tasted quite good for a meal lacking meat. While they were eating, Yi Nuo passed by. She had a bowl in her hand, possibly looking for a place to sit. When Xiang Yu spotted her, he called her over. "Sister Nuo, may you join us!"

Yi Nuo hesitated for a moment before sitting down with them. The general had told her to reduce her interaction with Princess Xiu after he found out that she brought her extra quilts which weren’t necessary. She tried to do as told but found it difficult to refuse that stunning face.

Xiang Yu hadn’t seen Han Xin since lunchtime. He thought that bastard would come back and harass him again about how he escaped, so he was ready for it, but who would think that Han Xin wouldn’t even show his face? He couldn’t help but smirk thinking that he had scared him off.

When she sat down, he asked, "Where did General Han go? I haven’t seen him around so I was wondering." Yi Nuo was a little surprised. She honestly thought that the princess disliked the general. Him being far from her vicinity would probably be what she wanted.

"The General left with Commander Han. They said they would be back tomorrow," she replied wondering if Princess Xiu needed him for something. "If it’s not urgent, I can inform you the moment he returns."

Xiang Yu nodded, not particularly caring about the general’s whereabouts. He just wanted to know what he was up to just in case he (Xiang Yu) wanted to get into some shenanigans. After finishing their dinner, they returned to their tent. Their clothes, which had been drying all day were already packed away inside the tent. While the three of them were sleeping peacefully, Han Xin and Han Zhan were approaching the deposed Empress’ palace.
