Chapter 581: We will rob them like bandits

Meanwhile, Han Zhan leaned closer to Han Xin, a frown creasing his forehead. "Why do I have to go with Little Bai?" he whispered, glancing back at the younger man. Little Bai stood with the twins, his dark hair catching the sunlight as they chatted animatedly.

"He’s your responsibility now," Han Xin replied, his tone firm but laced with a hint of amusement.

Han Zhan sighed, running a hand through his hair. He didn’t actually mind Little Bai. The man was quiet and easy to get along with. Yet, there was an undeniable weight to the situation. Little Bai had a habit of following him everywhere, almost as if he were attached like a prison wife.

Every time Han Zhan told him to stay behind, Little Bai would look at him with those puppy dog eyes. It left Han Zhan helpless, unable to resist the pull of those innocent gazes.

It wasn’t just that. Little Bai also displayed a distinct unhappiness whenever someone got too close to Han Zhan, or worse, touched him. The possessiveness was palpable, and it was beginning to feel less like he was looking after a younger brother and more like he was raising a jealous partner.

"Can’t I go with Xiang Yu," Han Zhan suggested, hoping to shake off Little Bai’s constant presence.

Han Xin shot him a glare, his eyes narrowing. "What are you worried about?" Han Zhan countered, feigning innocence. "He’s my sister-in-law. What could I possibly do to him?"

Han Xin rolled his eyes, but a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Han Zhan’s exasperation was amusing, and it was difficult not to chuckle at the absurdity of it all.

Han Xin turned around and walked away, his footsteps echoing softly on the pavement. Han Zhan muttered, "Fuck," under his breath.

As he turned to leave, he caught sight of Little Bai standing behind him. Startled, he jumped slightly. "Damn! Why are you sneaking up on me like a ghost?" he exclaimed.

Little Bai blinked, confusion crossing his face. He thought he had been loud enough to announce his presence. "Get in the car," Han Zhan ordered.

Little Bai didn’t move. Han Zhan took a step towards the vehicle, but he paused when he noticed Little Bai lingering by the curb. With a sigh, he reached out and grabbed Little Bai’s hand, pulling him gently along.

In that moment, hidden from Han Zhan’s view, Little Bai’s lips quirked slightly in a secret smile. Han Zhan opened the car door for him, and Little Bai slid into the seat. After shutting the door, Han Zhan moved around the car and settled into the driver’s seat.

He turned the key, the engine roaring to life. Then, he glanced over and noticed Little Bai without his seatbelt. With a resigned sigh, he leaned over to fasten it for him. "I taught you this before, but you already forgot," he said, shaking his head.

Suddenly, Little Bai pinched his sleeve. Han Zhan looked over, curious. "What is it?" he asked.

"Thank you, Zhan-ge," Little Bai replied softly.

Han Zhan’s heart raced, as if struck by an arrow. He hit the brakes. "Don’t—don’t call me that," he stammered, his voice more serious.

He restarted the car, trying to shake off the fluttering in his chest. "Who taught you to say that?" he asked, glancing at Little Bai again.

"Lian and Mei," Little Bai replied, an innocent look on his face.

"Don’t listen to those two, okay?" Han Zhan reprimanded gently, but Little Bai’s expression suggested he would repeat it again, no matter what.

Han Zhan shook his head, a soft smile creeping onto his face despite his words.

Meanwhile, Xiang Yu sat in the front passenger seat as the car sped down the winding back roads. The trees blurred past, their shadows dancing on the pavement. He glanced back at the twins in the backseat. "You know what to do when we get there, right?" he asked, his voice steady.

Lian nodded confidently. "Yes, we are experts in the art of distraction."

Mei chimed in, "Yes, we won’t let you down."

With a grin, Mei reached into her bag and pulled out a packet of dry pretzels. She handed it to Xiang Yu. "Here."

"Thanks," he said, opening the bag with a quick flick. The salty aroma filled the small space. As he reached in for a pretzel, he asked, "What would you like to do when this is all over?"

Lian leaned back in her seat, a dreamy smile appearing on her lips. "I would love a beer and some fried chicken while watching a movie."

Xiang Yu picked up a pretzel and turned to Han Xin, who was focused on the road. "Do you want some?" he asked, holding the pretzel out.

Han Xin opened his mouth, and Xiang Yu fed him the pretzel, sharing a laugh. Xiang Yu turned back to Lian. "That sounds like a great plan. What about you, Mei?" he inquired, curiosity lighting up his eyes.

Mei smiled brightly. "I want to go for a full spa day and lounge by a pool," she said, her eyes sparkling with the idea.

Xiang Yu chuckled softly. "That seems difficult. Ask your father. He can make it happen."

Han Xin, intrigued, turned his head slightly. "You have a father?" he asked, genuinely curious.

Lian leaned forward, her voice playful. "Yeah, you."

Han Xin paused, blinking at the unexpected revelation. "..."

Mei smiled brightly and continued, "Yeah, we are a family. You are our father, and we are the kids."

Han Xin raised an eyebrow. "Then who is the mom?" He glanced at Xiang Yu with a teasing expression.

"What mom?" Lian replied, rolling her eyes. "That’s our dad."

Xiang Yu couldn’t help but chuckle at their banter. Lian added, "We have two dads, and we are the kids."

Han Xin felt a warmth spread in his chest. They might not be related by blood, but lately, he had begun to feel that way. In this harsh, post-apocalyptic world, they were like a family, something rare and precious.

He didn’t refute their claims. Instead, he said with a grin, "I will rob a spa for you and bring it back to the city."

Mei clapped her hands, bubbling with excitement. "Yeah, we will rob them like bandits!"

Xiang Yu raised an eyebrow, amused by their enthusiasm. "..."
