Chapter 429: Little Xin

"The information is not cheap," Peng Xiu laughed, her eyes crazed as blood dripped down her nose. "I will tell you what you want to know if you marry me."

Han Xin expected this and wasn’t surprised. "Make me your imperial empress, and I will tell you where she is," Peng Xiu said with a hoarse voice.

Han Xin, even in his past life, had never seen or heard about his mother, so he didn’t believe her lies. With a flick of his hand, Peng Xiu hit the ground hard. Han Xin walked towards the door, ignoring her as she coughed vehemently, her eyes bloodshot.

As he passed her, she struggled to reach for his leg and grabbed it. "I am not lying," she said desperately. "Ask Marshal Wu about Project Starry Sky, then come find me. I will be planning our wedding."

Han Xin kicked her away and walked out. Han Zhan, waiting outside, asked, "What do we do with her?"

"Lock her up since she wants to be here so badly," Han Xin said, his voice devoid of emotion.

Han Zhan looked at Peng Xiu, who lay pathetically on the floor and didn’t ask what happened. He already knew that Peng Xiu had tried some shit and failed miserably.

Han Xin on the other hand had never heard of Project Starry Sky, so he was a little curious. Following behind him, Han Zhan watched as the crimson guards dragged Peng Xiu away, placing a prisoner collar around her neck. Han Xin turned to Han Zhan and said, "I am going to call the Marshal in my cabin. I need to speak to him urgently."

"Okay," Han Zhan replied, unable to hide the concern in his eyes.

Han Xin went into his cabin and commanded, "Zeus, call Marshal Wu."

Zeus’s voice echoed in the cabin, and soon a large floating screen appeared, covering the glass window. On the screen, Marshal Wu sat in the command chair on the warship bridge. Expecting an update on their progress, he stood up and bowed. "Yes, Your Majesty."

The mercenaries on the command bridge also got up and bowed, greeting Han Xin. "Carry on," Han Xin said, and the men sat back down, though they were still tense. His oppressive aura made them feel ill at ease.

"Marshal Wu, can we talk in private?" Han Xin asked.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Marshal Wu replied. The screen vanished as Marshal Wu assigned command to someone else and left the bridge. When he reached the captain’s cabin, the call reconnected. "Has there been news, Your Majesty?" Marshal Wu asked anxiously.

"You can say that," Han Xin replied, his expression unreadable and his aura suffocating. Marshal Wu didn’t know whether to be excited or worried. Han Xin’s demeanour made him suspect that the imperial lord was approaching his rut.

Since Han Xin had marked someone, the marshal knew that even military-grade inhibitors wouldn’t work. Han Xin had only two options: find Xiang Yu to deal with it or wash off any traces of Xiang Yu’s pheromones.

"What can you tell me about Project Starry Night?" Han Xin asked.

Marshal Wu looked confused, trying to recall. "Your Majesty, I don’t recall anything like that."

"Neither my father nor my mother ever mentioned it?" Han Xin pressed.

At the mention of the late imperial couple, whose lives had ended tragically, Marshal Wu instantly showed sadness and remorse. His brows furrowed. "I don’t recall them ever mentioning this project."

The light in Han Xin’s eyes dimmed. Just when he thought Peng Xiu was leading him on a wild goose chase, Marshal Wu said,

"But I do have a confidential virtual vault for His Majesty. If you want to take a look at it, it can only be accessed using your genetic makeup. Maybe you can find what you’re looking for."

He sent Han Xin the link. Han Xin opened the message, staring at the link with a thoughtful expression.

"Your Majesty..." Marshal Wu hesitated, wanting to say something but unable to bring the words out.

"I know," Han Xin reassured him. "If I find anything, you will be the first to know."

Marshal Wu heaved a soft sigh and thanked him before Han Xin ended the call. Han Xin stared at the link for a very long time, unsure of what to expect. He then tapped the floating screen, and it went black for a moment.

The sound of Zeus’s voice filled the room as it reported, "Master, I detected an infiltration, initiating defen—" But Zeus’s voice died down, and the floating screen lit up, showing a loading bar that moved quickly across the screen.

Another screen appeared, requesting him to place his palm on the floating screen and wait for the next instructions. Han Xin placed his palm on the screen, and a red light scanned it. He waited carefully, and soon the screen lit up with a message that said, "Welcome, Little Xin. It took you long enough."

Han Xin’s heart pounded in his chest. This was something he never knew about in his past life. In that life, Marshal Wu had died in battle with the Federation, and Han Xin never had this conversation with him. By the time he took over the imperial capital and usurped the throne, Marshal Wu had long been dead.

"Who are you?" Han Xin asked.

The voice from the floating screen replied, "I am Eirian, your late father’s AI assistant. Well, more like his best friend. You can call me Uncle Ei."

Han Xin was speechless, the revelation leaving him momentarily stunned.

Seeing that Han Xin was silent, Eirian said, "Too soon? Okay okay, never mind then. I will be here if you ever need anything."

"Thank you," Han Xin replied.

"So polite," Eirian commented. "Anyway, would you like to listen to one of your father’s videos? It might give you some closure."

Han Xin wasn’t prepared for this moment despite living two lifetimes. On the screen, his father, whom he had only seen on videos on Star Net, sat in his war gear, looking relaxed and even smiling.

"Hi Xin Xin," his father began, his voice warm. "I am making this video without your mother’s knowledge, so shh, don’t tell her."

Han Xin’s eyes felt sour as he looked at the man who seemed so much more relaxed and happy than how he presented himself to the rest of the world. His father continued, saying he just felt like chatting with him and telling him about his day.
