Chapter 414: Karma as a B***
"You betrayed the one person who helped you," Xiang Yu said, his voice cold and devoid of emotion. "He shared everything he had with you and took great care of you. And what did you do in the end?"
The Imperial Lord reached the doorframe, grasping it weakly, attempting to pull himself up. Xiang Yu strode over, his movements slow and deliberate, and turned his father around. The Imperial Lord’s limbs went limp. He could only lie there, glaring at his son, his body trembling with impotent rage.
Xiang Yu crouched down, a devilish grin spreading across his face. "You killed him just to take his place," he said, his voice a low, menacing purr. "Wasn’t your life good before?"
The Imperial Lord, his pride wounded as deeply as his body, refused to answer. Why should he explain himself to his son?
Xiang Yu scoffed at his father’s silence. He flicked the dagger in his hand, the blade glinting in the light, and then, without warning, plunged it into the Imperial Lord’s thigh.
The Imperial Lord, a man who had endured agonizing pain on countless battlefields, cried out. This pain was different, sharper, more excruciating than anything he had ever experienced. Black spots danced before his eyes, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.
Xiang Yu watched, amused, as the Imperial Lord curled on the floor, his veins throbbing, his face flushed crimson with agony. "You must be wondering why it’s so painful," Xiang Yu said, his voice laced with cruel amusement. "Well, I had to borrow something from the Marshal. And when he heard what I needed it for... he was happy to oblige."
Xiang Yu tapped the hilt of the dagger protruding from the Imperial Lord’s thigh. "You know," he said conversationally, "they used this to interrogate war prisoners and pirates. Today, I am using it on you."
The Imperial Lord glared, his forehead slick with cold sweat. Xiang Yu yanked the dagger out, and the Imperial Lord screamed a raw, animalistic sound. Before the Imperial Lord could even draw a breath, Xiang Yu plunged the dagger back into the same wound. The Imperial Lord’s world went black; foam bubbled at the corner of his mouth as he fought against the overwhelming agony.
He growled, a guttural sound of pure rage and pain. "You bastard," he rasped, his voice strained, "do you think you will escape this? The punishment for killing a member of the Imperial family... includes anyone who benefited from my crimes. That means you. And your future children."
Xiang Yu stared at him, his expression indifferent, as though his father’s words were of no consequence.
The Imperial Lord, breathing heavily, lifted his head slightly. "You will be banished to Death Star for hard labour," he gasped. "Stripped of all your wealth. You think you’ll get out of this unscathed?"
He laughed, a chilling, desperate sound, his bloodshot eyes terrifying. "You think he will save you after everything you did to him? You humiliated him, sinking your teeth into his glands every chance you got. Which Alpha could withstand that?" Xiang Yu nodded slowly, as if in agreement.
"We are in the same boat," the Imperial Lord continued, his voice laced with venom. "As my son, you will pay the price."
Xiang Yu chuckled. "Father is right," he said. "We are in the same boat. Except... I didn’t kill anyone. I have a clean conscience."
Xiang Yu’s face hardened. He grabbed the dagger and stabbed his father again and again, but each strike, though brutal, was carefully placed. None of them were fatal. It wasn’t his place to kill the Imperial Lord, though he would have relished the act.
The Imperial Lord, overwhelmed by the relentless pain, begged Xiang Yu to end his life. "Kill me," he gasped, his voice hoarse. "Please, just kill me."
Xiang Yu sneered. "Why?" he asked, his voice dripping with contempt. "So you can have it easy? Father, you have greatly misunderstood me. I am not benevolent."
He grabbed the Imperial Lord by the back of his collar and dragged him towards the secret elevator, leaving a trail of blood on the plush carpet. "I am not like my mother," Xiang Yu continued, his voice filled with bitterness. "She would rather end her own life, abandon her son, just so you wouldn’t lose face."
He tossed the Imperial Lord onto the floor of the elevator as the doors slid closed. "Actions have consequences," he said, his voice low and menacing. "And I am your retribution." The Imperial Lord remained silent, his eyes filled with a mixture of fear and hatred.
Xiang Yu dragged him out of the elevator at the lower level, the blood streaks continuing across the laboratory floor. He opened the heavy door to the neuro siphon device, the sinister machine humming ominously in the dimly lit room. The Imperial Lord began to panic, his eyes widening with terror.
"Please," he begged, his voice cracking. "I am still your father. You can do whatever you want with me, just don’t put me in there."
Xiang Yu sneered. "So you know how painful it is," he said, his voice laced with disgust. "But you still subjected Han Xin to it."
He strapped the Imperial Lord onto the hospital bed, pulling the leather restraints tight. "What did he ever do to deserve that?" Xiang Yu demanded, his voice rising with anger. "Did he ask to be born?"
The Imperial Lord, realizing that his son was truly going to go through with it, his pleas for mercy fall on deaf ears, finally broke. "You bastard!" he spat, his voice filled with venomous hatred. "I should have strangled you when you were born, you unfilial son!"
Xiang Yu finished securing the last strap, a cold smile playing on his lips. "There is the cruel and heartless man I know," he said, his voice devoid of any warmth. "I don’t like hearing you beg. It really doesn’t suit you."
Xiang Yu attached the probes to his father, his movements precise and clinical. He then turned and walked out of the room, the heavy door hissing shut behind him. "Hex," he called out, "how does this thing work?"
"I can’t connect to StarNet," Hex replied, "but there’s a manual on the system." A holographic manual materialized, revealing itself to be hundreds of pages long.
Xiang Yu, whose aversion to lengthy reading was well-documented, grimaced. "Fuck it," he said. "I will just wing it."
Hex, with its usual dry wit, simply offered a silent ellipsis.
Xiang Yu began tapping at the floating console, experimenting with the controls. Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream echoed from the other room.
The Imperial Lord’s body arched violently against the restraints, his struggles futile. He began to sweat profusely, his veins bulging and throbbing as if they were about to burst. Blood dripped from unseen wounds, pooling on the floor.
Xiang Yu, completely unperturbed by the sounds of his father’s agony, relaxed into a nearby chair. He placed his feet up on the console, crossing his legs with an air of complete indifference. The Imperial Lord’s cries of pain were, to him, like a soothing melody.
