Chapter 350: Cuddly right?

"Sure," Han Xin replied, his voice low-pitched and slightly hoarse. The sound sent a ripple of awareness through Xiang Yu as he moved to fetch another bottle of water. He returned and sat down next to Han Xin, their shoulders almost touching.

Xiang Yu sat leisurely, his gaze drifting over Han Xin. There was a softness in his eyes, a hint of something deeper. He took a sip from the bottle, feeling the cool liquid slide down his throat, but the heat rose to his cheeks almost immediately.

Han Xin had long restrained his pheromones, but some still lingered in the air, intoxicating Xiang Yu and making it hard for him to think clearly.

With a small smile, Xiang Yu tugged at his collar, as if trying to cool himself down. Han Xin’s eyes flickered to the exposed skin on Xiang Yu’s neck, his heart racing. He quickly looked away, gulping down the water to steady himself.

Though he was upset earlier his rationality had kicked in. He thought about the dinner with Xiang Yu’s father. What if Xiang Yu was meeting with the princess just to appease his father? Wouldn’t it be foolish to be angry about that? Yet, a part of him expected Xiang Yu to take him along when he meets her. After all, this was a situation where an attendant would be necessary.

He pushed the thought aside for now. As for the call earlier, he would settle accounts with Xiang Yu later. Han Xin cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "How was dinner with your father?"

"It was fine," Xiang Yu replied, his voice steady. "Peng Xiu asked for you again." Han Xin’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he processed this information. The mention of Peng Xiu stirred a complex mix of emotions within him.

His voice broke the silence. "So did you agree?"

Xiang Yu smiled slightly as he lay back on the couch, his eyes drifting to the ceiling. "I asked you if you wanted to leave, and you said no. You should have seen her face. It was hilarious."

He chuckled softly, the sound light and carefree. He took a deep breath, greedily inhaling the lingering scent of Han Xin before it faded into the air.

For a moment, Han Xin remained silent, the weight of his thoughts pressing down on him. "Your Highness," he finally said, his tone measured.

Xiang Yu, who had closed his eyes, hummed softly in response, not fully asleep.

"Would you have let me go if I said yes?" Han Xin asked, his voice low.

An ache settled in Xiang Yu’s chest. He could have answered honestly, could have said no, as he would never let Han Xin go. He would rather lock them both in a little black room and throw away the key.

Lian and Mei could take care of food and water. But deep down, Xiang Yu knew that a twisted melon wasn’t sweet. He wanted Han Xin to choose to be with him, not because he felt forced to.

"I would have let you leave," Xiang Yu replied, his voice steady, but doubt lingered in the air. The atmosphere shifted, becoming tense and suffocating. A flash of lightning illuminated the room, and for a brief moment, Xiang Yu tilted his head to look at Han Xin.

When the light struck, it cast half of Han Xin’s face in the shadows, making him appear like a resentful ghost lurking in the dark, ready to attack. Xiang Yu could tell when Han Xin was angry, and this time, he looked furious. But what was he angry about?

Suddenly, Han Xin stood up, his movements sharp and deliberate. "If Your Highness doesn’t need my services, then I will take my leave."

Those words struck Xiang Yu like a cold wind. Something felt wrong, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.

"Good night," he called after Han Xin, but there was no response. The door closed with a soft whoosh, leaving an unsettling silence in its wake.

As soon as Han Xin was gone, Hex, who had been silent through the exchange, sensed the tension dissipate. "Phew, he is gone," it said, its voice full of relief.

In an instant, Hex transformed, its form shifting into a cute white bat rabbit with long ears and a fluffy tail. Xiang Yu blinked at the plush-like appearance, amusement breaking through his earlier unease.

"You chose that?" he asked, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips.

"Yes!" Hex replied, flapping around him. "What do you think? Cuddly, right?"

"Let me see," Xiang Yu said, his curiosity piqued. He caught the little tail of the cuddly mutant, pulling it into a warm embrace. It was indeed huggable, soft and plush against his chest.

Little did he know that this was Hex’s clever ploy to dethrone the body pillow and claim its spot on the bed. Hex smiled its little canine tooth showing, a mischievous glimmer in its eyes. If only Xiang Yu knew who would be watching this later, he might have thought twice about hugging Hex at all.

"Very cuddly, but not as good as my Xin-ge," Xiang Yu remarked, a teasing smile on his face. At this, Hex’s smile fell, a wave of envy washing over it. It wished it could kick the body pillow out of the window just to prove its worth.

"I am going to take a shower, don’t disturb me," Xiang Yu said, rising from the couch.

Hex snorted, crossing its little arms over its chest, its cheeks puffing up in a playful huff.

Meanwhile, Han Xin stormed into his suite, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. As he stepped into the spacious bedroom, his steps paused, confusion washing over him.

Everything was as he had left it, but the room now felt transformed, more like his old bedroom, only larger. His paintings, once damaged, had been restored and hung around the walls, vibrant and full of life. His potato plant, painstakingly grown and previously damaged, now thrived in a spacious pot on the windowsill.

Han Xin walked further into the room, his heart pounding against his chest. His eyes landed on a familiar sight. It was baby blanket, the one he had been dropped off with at the orphanage, now clean and repaired, lying neatly on his bed.

He picked it up, his fingers curling around the soft material, memories flooding back. He knew who had done this, and as recognition settled in, his heart, once frozen and cold, began to melt.

He lay down on the bed, hugging the blanket tightly as he tried to recall anything about his parents. But it was pointless. He was essentially a newborn at the time and had no memory of his parents except what he saw on StarNet archives.

The calmness in his eyes began to fade as he recalled the truth of their passing . He recalled how he had found out that Imperial Lord Xiang Yize had betrayed and killed his parents in his past life. Hatred and resentment surged within him.
