Chapter 228: Couple fight

Xiang Yu turned around, his eyes catching the last burst of fireworks painting the night sky in vibrant hues. The silhouette of Han Xin’s retreating figure atop the hill was unmistakable. Rising to his feet, he heard Mei’s concerned voice, "Master, where are you going?"

Lian chimed in, "Yeah, the display isn’t done."

"You can continue watching it with Little Bai," Xiang Yu replied, his tone calm but resolute. "I have to go talk to Han Xin." He beckoned Little Bai over, who eagerly took his place.

Han Zhan, following closely behind, paused as he passed Xiang Yu. "Han Xin wants to see you in his office," he said, his voice low.

Xiang Yu nodded, a sense of foreboding settling in his chest. He had a feeling he had been found out, but he regretted nothing. Entering the villa, he walked with purpose towards Han Xin’s office. The door was open, and Han Xin sat at his desk, a serious expression clouding his features. The air in the room was thick with tension, almost palpable, making Xiang Yu hesitate for a moment.

He knocked softly. "Come in," Han Xin’s voice was cold, not even glancing up. Xiang Yu stepped inside but kept his distance. Han Xin finally looked up, his brows furrowed. "Close the door."

Xiang Yu pursed his lips, resisting the urge to retort. He closed the door and sat on the nearby couch, crossing one leg over the other in a show of calm. "What’s the matter?" he asked, his voice steady.

Han Xin stood, tossing a folder onto the coffee table with a resounding thud. He coolly placed his hands in his pockets. "Open it and take a look."

Xiang Yu’s lips curled into a knowing smile. He didn’t need to open the folder to know its contents. Instead, he ran his fingers through his hair and said, "You investigated me."

Han Xin’s jaw tightened. "The incident today was your doing, wasn’t it?"

Xiang Yu didn’t deny it. "Why are you asking me when you already know the answer?"

Han Xin hadn’t expected such honesty. Xiang Yu continued, "If they had only messed with me, I could have held back. But they dared to lay a finger on the girls. That is my bottom line."

Han Xin knew this, but the implications were dire. "Do you realize the consequences of crossing the seven clans? If they find out, they will demand you be handed over. If we refuse, the Han clan will be destroyed."

A flicker of doubt crossed Han Xin’s mind. Was this Xiang Yu’s plan all along? To use the Han clan for his own agenda? He finally realized that Xiang Yu never intended to serve the Han clan like his father. He had his own goals, ones he would achieve even if it meant betrayal.

Xiang Yu, unaware of Han Xin’s thoughts, felt a pang of frustration. He would never betray Han Xin. Han Xin was the reason he was here, and everything he did was to protect him.

Han Xin smiled a self-deprecating twist to his lips. He had seen Xiang Yu in action, a force of nature, an untamed beast that seemed well-behaved but would bite without restraint when provoked. How foolish he had been to think he could tame this person and have him work peacefully beneath him.

"Do you know the consequences of your actions?" Han Xin’s voice was tight with barely contained rage. "Do you even know what the other clans will do when they find out what you did? They will want your head and use you as an example."

Xiang Yu stood, facing Han Xin directly. "Then what will you do?"

Han Xin’s anger simmered just below the surface, threatening to burst forth. Xiang Yu could see it, but he didn’t back down. "Will you hand me over to them?" Xiang Yu’s gaze locked onto Han Xin’s dark eyes, and for a moment, he was lost in them, unable to extricate himself.

"You went behind my back and took your revenge," Han Xin said, his voice trembling with fury. "You couldn’t even trust my words."

Xiang Yu admitted to himself that he should have said something, but his nature as the demon king wouldn’t let him. If anyone wronged his people, he would respond swiftly and severely.

"Yes, but I would never do anything to harm you," Xiang Yu added.

Han Xin couldn’t believe it. "How can I trust someone who goes behind my back? You are untrustworthy."

Xiang Yu took a step closer. "Is that how you really feel?"

Han Xin’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he took a step back. He was angry, but why did he feel like prey? "That’s how I really feel. I can’t trust you."

Xiang Yu stepped closer again, and Han Xin retreated until his back pressed against the desk. The room fell silent, the tension thickening the air.

"Okay," Xiang Yu said finally. "Since you don’t trust me, we can’t stay under the same roof. We will move out by the end of the week." He dropped this bombshell before turning to leave.

Han Xin’s hand shot out, grabbing Xiang Yu’s arm and pulling him back. The action was so impulsive that when Xiang Yu looked at him, Han Xin didn’t know what to say. His lips parted as though to speak, but no words came out. Xiang Yu was the one who had gone behind his back, so shouldn’t he be the one who was angry, not Xiang Yu?

Han Xin could restrain him for disobeying him. If it were anyone else, he would have, but this was Xiang Yu. Han Xin had a feeling that if he did, something terrible would happen.

Xiang Yu shrugged off Han Xin’s hand and walked out, leaving Han Xin standing there, a storm of emotions raging within him.

***

The past few days had been a blur of frustration for Han Xin. He had been in a foul mood for the past three days. He couldn’t stop thinking about Xiang Yu and it was only getting worse.

One would think he would get a moment of reprieve when he went to bed, but he kept dreaming about that face. Last night’s dream had been even more absurd, leaving him feeling uncomfortable.

It was as if his body had a mind of its own, craving something he couldn’t quite comprehend. He was usually composed, but these days, he found himself in a state of constant agitation, his thoughts drifting towards that person. What sort of absurd dream did he dream of last night? Well...
