Chapter 145: Yu Yu... at least show me your real face
Before Xiang Yu could talk some sense into Han Xin, the man closed the distance between them and captured his lips in a kiss that crackled with electricity.
Han Xin slipped the small key for her cuffs past their lips into Yu Yu’s mouth. Xiang Yu’s heart raced, having realised what Han Xin was doing, but he already had the key in his clenched fist.
The fact that Han Xin was willing to risk everything just to free him made his heart stir but he couldn’t allow it. He didn’t want Han Xin to suffer because of him. He didn’t want him to lose everything more especially after his true identity was revealed.
As the kiss deepened, he discreetly unlocked the cuffs, his fingers deftly opening the metal restraints. With a swift motion, he grabbed Han Xin’s wrist and pulled him closer, sliding the open cuffs onto the man’s hand and locking them in place against the wall.
Han Xin caught up in the moment, let out a muffled moan, his body responding to her dominance. He was now trapped, his wrist secured above his head, leaving him at her mercy. Xiang Yu pushed the key back into Han Xin’s mouth with his tongue, their saliva mixing in a sensual dance. When their lips parted, Han Xin stared at Yu Yu, his heart racing.
He had so many questions, like how she already had another key, and what she planned on doing next, but he couldn’t open his mouth to ask. He was overwhelmed by an inexplicable fear, fear of losing her. Fear that she might run away and he would never see her again. Just the thought of losing her made him feel an intense pain like a knife was being driven into his chest.
Xiang Yu panted, his breath ragged. "You should stay here and don’t implicate yourself. I will come back for you, I promise."
Han Xin’s heart throbbed unable to accept parting ways like this. Why couldn’t she just run away with him? He could protect her. Why did she have to work for Xiang Yu and put her life at risk? Was it really worth it? He wanted to convince her to leave with him, but knowing her, her mind wouldn’t change easily, so he settled for the next best thing. "Yu Yu, at least... at least show me who you are. Can I at least see your face?" he said his tone almost begging.
Xiang Yu had planned for this moment to be his big review but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He kissed Han Xin’s lips and said, "Be good and stay here. I promise I will come find you." He turned to leave, and Han Xin stood there frozen for a moment, his eyes bloodshot.
Xiang Yu pulled the cloak over his face, the fabric rough against his skin, and stepped out of the prison. Han Xin had done his part, leaving the prison unguarded, and now it was his turn to seize the moment. With determined strides, he merged into the bustling crowd, the city’s heartbeat pounding in his ears.
The citizens were visibly shaken by the Zhen country army that loomed menacingly outside the capital walls. Panic rippled through the crowd, some people desperate to flee, but the emperor’s decree had sealed all the gates shut.
Slipping into a narrow alley, Xiang Yu moved with purpose towards the wall. He was going to leap over it and reunite with the others. Just as he melted into the shadows, Han Xin, unable to bear the thought of losing Yu Yu, unlocked his cuffs and bolted from the prison. His heart raced, fear etched across his face.
The prison guards, who had momentarily stepped away at his command had returned. They thought the General was here to torture the prisoner, so they gave him some space, but who would have thought when they returned, he would seem so distraught. They asked him what was the matter. Ignoring their calls, Han Xin sprinted into the alley, his mind racing. He had to think quickly. If Yu Yu was escaping, which section of the wall would be the safest?
Realising the eastern section was the most secure and thus the least guarded, he changed direction, hoping to intercept her. Meanwhile, Xiang Yu reached the wall, grabbing a sturdy piece of wood from a nearby pile. He ascended the stone staircase cautiously, each step deliberate.
A soldier patrolling the wall was more focused on the threat beyond than the one within. Xiang Yu snuck up on him and struck him swiftly, knocking the soldier unconscious. He picked him up and dragged his body behind wooden crates filled with weapons.
Spotting another soldier ahead, he crouched low, moving silently. He tapped the soldier’s shoulder and quickly shifted away. The soldier turned, seeing nothing. Xiang Yu whistled softly, drawing the soldier’s attention. As the soldier reached for his sword, he struck, and the man crumpled to the ground.
Xiang Yu peered over the wall, spotting the cart of straw Xiang Wei had placed for him. Xiang Wei, who had been hiding, emerged from beneath the cart at the sound of the whistle. Xiang Yu smiled at his brother and signalled him to move the cart a little. Xiang Wei nodded, his eyes scanning the surroundings before he pushed the cart of straw forward.
Xiang Yu raised his thumb letting him know that it was perfect. He poised himself to jump when he felt a strong arm wrap around his waist, yanking him back. Xiang Wei’s eyes widened in shock as his brother vanished from sight. He swore under his breath, pressing his back against the wall, waiting anxiously.
Xiang Yu tensed, ready to fight, but a familiar whisper in his ear stopped him. "It’s me." Han Xin’s voice was unmistakable. Xiang Yu relaxed slightly but said urgently, "You have to let me go."
"Yu Yu... at least show me your real face before you go, so I can find you," Han Xin pleaded, his voice filled with desperation. Xiang Yu hesitated, not ready to reveal the truth. He turned to face him but Han Xin cupped his face gently, coaxing him. "Yu Yu, let me see what you really look like... please."
Xiang Yu shook his head, feeling a pang of guilt. He had grown fond of Han Xin and didn’t want to hurt him. He planned to ask the Divine Emperor after this for a new identity to protect Han Xin. He would take any appearance as long as it was that of a woman; at least, it would lessen the pain. This was why he refused to show him what he truly looked like.
