Chapter 123: Who kissed who, that is the question!

An hour later, Xiang Yu sat on a log, sharing dinner with Mei, Lian, Baihe and Yi Nuo. The other soldiers, including Han Zhan, were eating nearby, but Han Xin was conspicuously absent. Xiang Yu was curious to know what he was up to, but given that he was asked to return to the capital immediately, he dismissed it, assuming Han Xin was occupied with his duties as General.

He was fully prepared for what was going to happen in the capital which was why he was relaxed. Even if things went south, he had the big man in his pocket. By big man, he was referring to the Divine Emperor who had gone M.I.A.

Speaking of the devil, he finally showed up. As they ate, he felt a sudden, intense presence in his mind. The Divine Emperor, who had been missing for some time, was now yelling at him. Xiang Yu’s eyes widened slightly, but he maintained his composure. What was he hooting and hollering for? Had he woken up on the wrong side of the bed or taken the wrong pill?

Leaning over, he whispered something to Mei before standing up. On his way past Lian, Xiang Yu piled a mountain of vegetables into Lian’s bowl. "I am watching you," he said with a smirk.

Lian pouted, her cheeks puffing out in mock annoyance. "Not fair, master!"

Xiang Yu chuckled and continued on his way, heading into the dark forest. He found a secluded spot by a tree trunk overlooking the majestic mountain range. Sitting down, he focused on the voice in his mind.

"What have you done?" the Divine Emperor’s voice thundered, filled with anger.

Xiang Yu chuckled internally, trying to remain calm. "I know things didn’t go as planned, but I have a solution."

"A solution? A solution?!" the Divine Emperor interjected, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "What solution do you have for kissing Han Xin?"

Xiang Yu’s eyes widened thinking he had found out about their past accidental linking of lips. His heart pounding, he closed his eyes and entered his spiritual space. He didn’t think immortals would be so frazzled about a kiss that wasn’t on purpose.

Maybe it was because they had to focus on the way of the Dao and not have earthly desires. If he made Han Xin break his vow, then he would apologise, but it wasn’t on purpose.

He confronted the Divine Emperor directly asking, "What kiss?" One thing he learnt as a child in the brothel was never to admit to a crime of your own volition. They would have to tell him what he did wrong first before he admitted it.

The Divine Emperor’s presence loomed larger, his anger palpable. "Do not play games with me, Xiang Yu. You know exactly what I am talking about."

Xiang Yu chuckled in disbelief, shaking his head slightly. "Old man," he replied incredulously, "if you are talking about before this, in the real world... Han Xin was the one who kissed me! I didn’t kiss him so shouldn’t I be the one demanding compensation? I should be the one who should be mad."

The Divine Emperor raised an eyebrow and interjected calmly, "Wait—wait—wait! You two kissed before you entered this world?"

A frown creased Xiang Yu’s forehead as confusion washed over him. What was this old man talking about? "Yeah," he admitted slowly. "He was passed out and kissed me out of nowhere." He conveniently left out details about how he’d given Han Xin the wrong medicine that day which inevitably led to this situation. It had been an innocent mistake.

"Ah!" exclaimed the Divine Emperor suddenly. "You mean there’s more than one time?"

Xiang Yu blinked rapidly as realisation dawned upon him. They were definitely speaking about different moments entirely, but the problem was if he kissed Han Xin, shouldn’t he have memories of it?

"Old man," he stammered defensively, raising both hands for emphasis, "I said it happened once, not twice! Once! You should get your ears checked."

"You!... I am a divine being. What do you mean I should get my ears checked?" he said as he pointed a finger accusingly at Xiang Yu. "You did it twice! You kissed recently. I knew I shouldn’t have left you unsupervised! I left you alone for one second-"

"Two weeks, it’s been two we-," he corrected the Divine Emperor only for the man to glare at him like a bull seeing red. Xiang Yu shut his mouth looking like a delinquent being schooled by his teacher.

The divine emperor blamed himself. He should have known not to leave the little demon alone. Genuine confusion swirled within Xiang Yu as he touched his lips lightly and furrowed his brow deeper.

And here he thought that they would be discussing the matter of Han Xin falling in love with him. Instead, they were talking about a kiss that he didn’t even remember happening.

Seeing the genuine confusion on his face, the Divine Emperor sighed dramatically as if carrying centuries’ worth of exasperation upon those ancient shoulders.

He had been hunting down Peng Xiu for weeks, but she had acquired an ancient divine weapon that could hide her divine essence from everyone, making the task incredibly difficult. Who would have thought while he was hunting down one sibling the other one would be making trouble?

With a wave of his hand, the scene unfolded before them like petals unfurling from a bud. Suddenly they stood together on another plane. The scene changed to the carriage the night he was sick from the poison.

Xiang Yu saw Han Xin, walk in and check his body before calling the physician. The physician soon brought medicine, and Han Xin tried to help him drink it, but as expected, he was extremely stubborn.

"He could have asked the twins to help," said Xiang Yu with a nervous smile and the divine emperor said,

"Keep watching." Xiang Yu was getting even more nervous now. It must have been that bad for this old man to explode in anger. He saw Han Xin do exactly as he said he should do, that is, ask the twins, only for him to see the girls take a step back, refusing.

"Come on, I am not that difficult to feed medicine. They are just being dramatic," he said, but as though to shame him, the girls stepped back again. His eyes widened when he saw Han Xin drink the medicine before leaning down towards him.

"See, he kissed me not the other way around. Old man, you should also get your eyes checked. Ha, he obvio-," Han Xin said, only for him to end mid-sentence when their lips met the second time, and he gripped the back of the General’s neck. An innocent action of feeding him medicine quickly escalated into something electric and undeniable.

Xiang Yu, "???"
