Chapter 68: coming soon

this novel will be back soon

Draven sat on the leftmost chair, Sarah beside him. Across from them, Deka and Bella sat with a simple wooden table between them. At the far end of the room was a large desk, clearly belonging to the Guild Master.

After a moment—

Creak.

The door swung open.

"Sorry to keep you waiting."

He walked to his desk, sitting down with a heavy presence. Then, reaching into his pocket, he pulled out three metallic tags.

Each one was silver, shaped like a military dog tag, engraved with:

Name, I.D. Type, Rank.

Sarah took the tags and handed them to Draven, Deka, and Bella.

Draven examined his. "This is it?"

The Guild Master nodded. "Yes." He met their gaze firmly. "By the way, I’m Baldric—the Guild Master of this branch."

The three gave him a simple nod.

Baldric turned to Sarah, motioning for her to explain further.

Sarah faced them and began:

"All adventurers, regardless of rank, use silver tags—except for two exceptions."

Rank F uses Bronze tags.

Rank S uses Gold tags.

"As adventurers, you’re required to complete at least three quests every month. Failure to do so will result in demotion."

She continued, her voice was sharp.

"If you accept a quest but fail to complete it, you must pay a penalty—10% of the quest’s reward. Since you delayed the task, the guild compensates for the loss."

Sarah finished and looked at them. "Any questions?"

Draven shook his head. "No. It’s all clear. Can we go now?"

The room fell silent.

Baldric leaned back in his chair, studying them carefully.

Draven narrowed his eyes slightly. ’He wants to ask something.’

Without waiting, Draven smirked. "If you have a question, just ask. No need to hesitate."

Baldric let out a small chuckle. "You’re direct. I like that."

His expression turned more serious.

"I heard you’re new to Zarathan. Where exactly are you from?"

"We’re from Japan. A small village far up north."

Deka and Bella letting Draven to talk and handling everything to him, since he was the leader.

Baldric’s brow furrowed. "Japan? Never heard of it."

Draven shrugged. "It’s isolated."

Baldric studied him for a moment, but then he sighed and waved it off.

"I won’t pry into your past. What matters is that you’re strong—that’s enough for the guild."

Then, his gaze sharpened.

"But before we officially register you, I need one last thing... Show me your I.D."

Deka and Bella tensed. Their muscles were almost coiled, ready to attack at any moment.

But before they could act or show their expression.

"Sorry, but I can’t show it," Draven interrupted, his tone calm yet firm.

Deka and Bella froze, masking their intent.

Draven leaned back slightly, his expression unreadable. "As I said, we don’t trust people that easily—especially since we’re new here. We just want to live normal lives."

Baldric’s sharp eyes studied him.

"You have a point," the Guild Master admitted, but his expression showed clear doubt.

’Something wasn’t adding up.’

Baldric wasn’t suspicious because he thought they were Verdants—everyone knew Verdants had been powerless for thousands of years. That possibility never even crossed his mind.

Instead, his gut told him that Draven was hiding something far bigger. Was he Luminous? Azure? Something else?

Draven could see the gears turning in Baldric’s mind, so he pushed further.

"Your receptionist already confirmed it," he said smoothly, glancing at Sarah.

Baldric’s eyes snapped to Sarah, and for the first time, his suspicion deepened.

Something was wrong.

"Sarah, why do your eyes look... dead?"

The tension spiked instantly.

Deka and Bella stiffened again. Draven felt the shift—it was subtle, but deadly. If Baldric noticed their panic, things could go south fast.

Without missing a beat, Draven glanced at Bella.

With just a look, Bella instructed Sarah telepathically:

’Say you haven’t slept all night—that you’re just exhausted.’

Sarah nodded once, then rubbed her temple.

"Sorry, Guild Master. I didn’t sleep at all last night... I’m still really tired."

Silence.

Then—

Baldric chuckled. "Haha, that explains it. If you finish the paperwork fast, go home and rest."

"Thank you, Guild Master." Sarah bowed slightly.

Baldric exhaled, shaking off his doubts. Then, turning his gaze back to Draven, Deka, and Bella, he smirked.

"Well then, thank you for choosing Zarathan. With your strength, my guild will benefit greatly. I’ll be expecting big achievements from you in the future."

Draven grinned. "Of course. And thank you for accepting us."

Then, a mischievous glint flashed in his eyes.

"If you ever have time, let’s duel."

Bella sighed. "This again?"

Baldric laughed. "I’d rather not. I can’t afford to destroy this building. But maybe, somewhere far away from the kingdom... someday."

Draven’s grin widened. "I’ll remember that."

With that, the three exited the room.

Their meeting had been on the second floor, and as they made their way down the stairs—

The noise hit them.

The moment they stepped into the guild hall—

"There they are!"

The entire guild was in an uproar.

Adventurers crowded the entrance, talking loudly, whispering, or outright gawking at them

Some were curious.

Others were envious.

And some... were outright hostile.

After all—no one had ever ranked up to A-Rank this fast.

Draven smirked. "Looks like we’re famous now."

Bella crossed her arms. "Tch. This is going to be annoying."

Deka, as usual, just smiled innocently.

The moment Draven stepped down, the guild members swarmed him.

"Hey! You’re new, right? I can show you around the kingdom!" one adventurer offered eagerly.

"Forget that! I’m a veteran in dungeon runs—I can help you clear any dungeon!"

"How about me?" a seductive voice purred.

Draven turned, only to see a tall, curvy woman step closer, running a finger along his shoulder. "You can taste me if you join my party."

Bella sighed loudly. "Seriously?"

Deka just blinked in confusion.

Draven, however, simply kept walking.

As he did, memories from Earth resurfaced.

Fame. Popularity. Influence.

Back then, everyone wanted something from him. Whether it was sponsorships, fake friendships, or business deals, he had played along—not because he wanted to, but because it was necessary to maintain his success.

Money ruled the world.

But here?

Strength ruled.

"Sorry, but I don’t need anyone." His voice was firm, unwavering.

He glanced back briefly, smirking. "I can manage everything with these two."

Silence.

The atmosphere shifted.

Some scoffed.

Some looked disappointed.

A few glared, feeling insulted.

But no one dared to push further.

One by one, they backed off.

Draven continued forward, his stride unbothered. He didn’t need a fake entourage.

Bella shook her head. "You really know how to make enemies fast."

Draven smirked. "They are like linta who want to suck blood."

Deka just smiled innocently, as if completely oblivious to the tension.

The three headed straight for the A-Rank quest board to pick a quest.
