Chapter 38: Meeting someone
Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Meeting someone
After a deep good night’s sleep, he woke up feeling refreshed and happy.
The golden morning sun streamed through the curtains, bathing the room in a warm, dreamy glow. Everything felt cozy, peaceful, and almost surreal in its tranquility.
He played a random song recommended by the platform on his phone.
Lying in his soft, plush bed, he savored the peaceful moment.
He truly felt blessed to be living this life.
Thinking about today’s mission, he felt a bit nervous, but more than that, he was weirdly excited.
"Today’s definitely gonna be epic," he muttered.
But his attention was soon drawn to the song playing on his phone. It was light and gentle, like a lover’s whisper in the morning. Soft yet powerful. Familiar yet new.
The voice, in particular, was absolutely mesmerizing, almost heavenly...he couldn’t describe it any other way.
It carried an emotion so raw and pure that it sent chills down his spine.
The melody was both effortlessly light and energetic, a perfect balance that made it all the more captivating.
He frowned slightly.
It was the first time he had ever heard this song, in both of his lives, because there was no way a masterpiece like this could have remained hidden in his previous one.
Curious, he picked up his phone to see who had created this song. There was no way someone capable of making music like this would be unknown.
When he saw the singer’s name, his eyes widened, his heart rate spiked, and his moth opened wide.
Because the singer was... Emma.
Yes, the same Emma he had lunch with.
He further scrolled down, checking the other credits, his hands moving almost on instinct.
Lyrics: Emma Alison.
Composition: Emma Alison.
Melody: Emma Alison.
He didn’t know how to describe this feeling. It was like meeting a random stranger on the street, sharing a meal like two ordinary people, only to later discover that the stranger was a world-famous superstar—and that the songs he loved belonged to her.
A bizarre, almost surreal feeling.
But he didn’t dwell on it for long.
And after a moment of reflection, he accepted it, anyway he has already transmigrated and what could be more absurd than this?
Curious, he searched for more of her songs. After listening for a while, he came to a clear conclusion—she wasn’t just good. She was phenomenal.
She truly deserved to be a top-tier superstar. And her music wasn’t just confined to a single genre. She was like a chameleon, effortlessly shifting styles, and yet, every song was a hit.
But now wasn’t the time to focus on this. He had more important things to do today.
Donning his running gear, he happily continued his usual routine of jogging and exercising.
He also made sure to get a pair of headphones and put her songs on loop.
As he ran, he noticed something unusual, his physical condition seemed much better than in previous days. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the music or his regular routine.. Either way, today, his body felt stronger.
He finished his session in an unusually high-spirited mood.
Back home, he took a long shower, letting the cool water wash away the sweat before throwing together a quick breakfast—sandwiches, simple but filling.
After eating, he stood in front of the mirror, examining his outfit and couldn’t help admiring his look.
Today, he had once again chosen a black outfit: a black cotton T-shirt, cargo pants, and sneakers.
To keep a low profile, he added a black baseball cap and sunglasses.
It might seem like a simple outfit, but each piece was from a high-end brand, with its own unique appeal.
Satisfied, he grabbed his keys and slipped into the driver’s seat, smoothly pulling onto the road.
And made his way to the university, skillfully handling the vehicle.
Today, he left early.
There was someone he needed to meet.
Upon arriving at the university, he didn’t rush to get out of the car.
After a moment of hesitation, he finally made up his mind and dialed a number.
Ring... ring... ring...
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
On the other side, a young man sat hunched over on a weathered wooden bench, his shoulders slumped like a discarded marionette.
His usually bright eyes were now dull and bloodshot, staring blankly at the cracked pavement.
His hair, normally meticulously styled, was a tangled mess. Strands fell across his forehead, casting shadows over his face.
His complexion, once vibrant, was now pale and drawn.
His clothes were rumpled, his shirt untucked—a stark contrast to his usual neat appearance.
His entire look could only be described as unkempt and haggard.
The sudden ringing of his phone broke the heavy silence.
But even then, he barely reacted. His dull, empty gaze remained locked on nothingness.
The phone continued to ring.
It wasn’t until the fifth ring that his unfocused eyes finally regained some clarity.
Slowly, almost reluctantly, he looked at the screen.
Checking the caller ID, he hesitated but ultimately picked up.
Then, with a deep breath, he answered.
"Hello..."
His voice was hoarse, barely more than a whisper.
On the other end, Rex let out a sigh of relief.
He had been genuinely worried that the call wouldn’t be answered.
Clearing his throat, he spoke as gently as he could.
"Hey, it’s me. Where are you right now?"
The boy glanced around at his surroundings before looking down at himself.
"Man, I’m not in the mood right now. Let’s meet some other time."
He still hadn’t told any of his friends about his breakup yet.
Even though he knew the chances were slim, he still wanted to try. Maybe—just maybe—a miracle could happen.
That was why, despite his haggard state, he had come to the university so early.
"I know. I can already tell from your voice," Rex said, his voice steady. "But.... I have something important to talk about."
"I can’t explain it over the phone. Let’s meet—I’m not taking no for an answer."
Silence.
Then, finally, the other party sighed.
Rex wasn’t the type to call over trivial matters.
If he said it was important, then it definitely was.
"Alright," the boy relented, sharing his location.
Seeing the location, Rex raised an eyebrow.
But he didn’t say more.
He simply got out of his car and hurried toward the meeting spot.
As he walked through the university, his presence attracted a few glances.
But thanks to his cap and sunglasses, he managed to avoid being recognized.
