Chapter 179: Chapter 178: Late Night Call

Victor lifted it with reverence and placed it on the desk. As it powered up, lines of encrypted code began scrolling across the screen.

He didn’t waste time and navigated to the company’s internal secure and encrypted network, connected to an encrypted satellite node, rerouted through four dummy servers. and ran through several layers of security—voiceprint, passcode, confirmation pings.

Even a confirmation ping from Willian, the branch deputy, who likely grumbled and rolled over in bed to authorize it.

Only then did Victor reach the final screen—Asset Profiles: Rex Aeric

He typed: Seraphina Marcella

Finally, Seraphina’s profile loaded up on screen.

Occupation: Boutique Manager

Affiliation: Luvation, Rodeo Street Branch

Profile: Non-threatening. Civilian. Known for client discretion and high-end taste.

Of course, what he’d just accessed was only the surface—basic intel available under light clearance. For anything deeper, he’d need to pass through several more security checkpoints.

Her info was classified under the "Interaction Tier" section, due to her contact with Rex. Not sensitive, but not casual either. Only a handful of people had access: himself, Kaelan, and William—now deputy manager. Even among their elite security team, access to anything regarding Rex was locked down like Fort Knox.

Victor noted down Seraphina’s personal number and texted it directly to Rex’s secure line.

Seraphina Marcella’s profile was flagged under the "Interaction Tier" category—a designation reserved for civilians who had direct personal interaction with Rex. Not exactly top secret, but certainly not casual either. That classification alone meant restricted access. Only a select few could view the full file: himself, Kaelan, and William—who now served as deputy manager of the local branch.

Even within their elite-tier private security team, anything related to Rex Aeric was locked down tighter than a presidential vault. The company wasn’t just thorough—they were borderline paranoid when it came to Rex’s data. Paranoia, in this case, was part of the package.

Victor scanned the relevant segments, confirmed the number was still active, and noted down Seraphina’s personal contact. Without delay, he encrypted the message and sent it straight to Rex’s through a private secure line.

On the other side, Rex had just ended the call when his phone buzzed again with a new message.

There it was. Seraphina’s number. Personal.

He had to admit that Victor was fast.

Ahem! Not fast in that way, but fast in meeting his requirements, even so late at night.

Huh! Why does it sound more and more wrong? He shook his head quickly. Forget it. Not the time for this nonsense.

He looked at the time.

Would she even answer this late?

Then again... people like her didn’t sleep. They recharged.

He hit the dial.

Ring... Ring...

Click.

A low, honeyed voice—cool as silk, sharp as glass—slid through the speaker.

"Who is this?"

"It’s me. Rex Aeric. Do you remember me?"

"Hmmm..." she hummed, stretching the syllable like a ribbon. "Do I remember you?" she said in a teasing tone, drawing the words out like a cat toying with a mouse. "Let me think... Hmm... No,I don’t think so."

Rex choked. "It’s the sunny boy who emptied half your boutique a few days ago?"

A beat of silence.

Then laughter, smooth and amused.

"I’m messing with you. There’s no way I’d forget the great god of impulse shopping." She chuckled. "Thanks to you, I’m halfway through this month’s sales quota."

A pause.

"And can you please stop being so narcissistic?"

"What can I do?" Rex replied, letting a grin creep into his voice. "I’m just too handsome. Burden of beauty, you know."

"That voice—equal parts velvet and arrogance," she muttered. "So... to what do I owe the pleasure? Or is this a fashion emergency?"

A brief pause, then her voice grew playfully sharper, like a cat lazily unsheathing its claws.

"And by the way, where did you get my personal number, hmm? If I recall correctly, I never handed that out to you, Mr. Aeric. So curious. So... intriguing."

Across the city, nestled within a gated upscale community that overlooked the glittering skyline, the inside of a luxurious modern villa was dimly lit with golden ambient hues. In a spacious master bedroom, soft jazz played from hidden speakers, blending into the warm glow of candlelight. Seraphina Marcella lay sprawled across a silky, snow-white bedspread, wearing a satin robe that shimmered like liquid moonlight.

One leg was kicked up in the air, flailing lazily as she toyed with the ends of her hair with one hand and held her phone in the other. Her eyes were half-lidded but alert, her lips curled into a smile—equal parts seduction, curiosity, and genuine amusement.

The great god of impulse shopping had called her in the dead of night.

How could she not be entertained?

"What can I do?" Rex replied, letting a grin creep into his voice. "I’m just too handsome. Burden of beauty, you know."

Seraphina chuckled, low and unhurried, like silk slipping over marble.

"Mm. Arrogant and self-aware. Deadly combination. Be careful, or I might actually take you seriously."

"Wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world," Rex replied with a casual air, though the edge in his tone made it clear he could play this game just as well. "Besides, I’m calling with a very real crisis. Less than twenty-four hours, and I’ve got to blend into a sea of million-dollar tuxedos and Botox smiles."

She sat up a little straighter, her eyes glinting with interest.

"Oh? Hollywood? Sounds delightfully dangerous."

"Exclusive party," he said. "You know the type—more diamonds than morals, and I wanna go there looking like a lost backpacker."

A soft, dangerous chuckle followed.

"How dramatic. I love it. Keep talking."

"I mean it. It’s some fancy, invite-only thing. I need to look like I belong."

Seraphina let out a melodic laugh, stretching luxuriously as she crossed her legs and leaned back on a velvet pillow.

"You paint such a vivid picture. Tell me more. Or better yet, send me your measurements. You’ve... grown a bit, haven’t you?"
