Chapter 1221: Chapter 1221: The Terrifying Storm (1)
After Wang Yueryao and Ye Fei had clashed in a fierce exchange of power, both were left with significant injuries.
Wang Yueryao, who had already been hurt, forced herself to stop, which only exacerbated her wounds. Her final effort to resist the spatial rift pushed her to the brink.
Unable to hold on any longer, she spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed into unconsciousness, only to be swallowed by the rift.
No sooner had Wang Yueryao’s body entered the rift than Ye Fei, who had been flung several kilometers away, was pulled back within half a second.
He was utterly helpless as he was sucked into the rift as well.
After consuming both of them, the rift vanished as abruptly as it had appeared. However, the consequences of its brief existence—lasting less than two seconds—were far from over.
The rift’s suction force was so powerful that even world-class warriors like Wang Yueryao and Ye Fei couldn’t resist it, let alone ordinary seawater.
In the nearly two seconds it existed, it sucked in millions of cubic meters of water.
The speed was so intense that the surrounding water couldn’t fill the void quickly enough, creating a massive underwater crater thousands of meters deep.
After the rift disappeared, the surrounding water rushed in to fill the void, forming a gigantic whirlpool. The whirlpool, in turn, agitated the air, generating a moderate-sized tornado.
If this had happened in any other sea, especially during the relatively mild early spring climate, the tornado would likely have dissipated quickly. However, it occurred in the Bermuda Triangle, a region already known for its restlessness.
Instead of weakening, the tornado grew stronger as it absorbed several smaller storms and began moving northwestward, propelled by the warming air currents.
Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers away, a large-scale military exercise was underway on the ocean’s surface.
The exercise was so extensive that it involved three aircraft carriers and countless other naval vessels.
This display of military might was orchestrated by a newly elected leader who had recklessly claimed that he could defeat the Dragon Nation in just five minutes.
While the three carriers were impressive, what truly captured the world’s attention was their cutting-edge weaponry.
Inside the U.S. National Weather Service office:
"Boss, look at this! It’s a tropical storm!" an diligent meteorologist suddenly shouted, "It’s moving really fast. It seems to be heading straight for the United States."
"Huh? A tropical storm?"
The director quickly walked over and examined the screen closely, frowning, "A storm this season? But it’s still far away and not very large. It’ll probably dissipate before it gets here."
Of course, he said that, but he knew better than to take nature lightly. He instructed, "Keep a close eye on it and report any changes immediately."
"Sure thing, boss."
The director thought for a moment, then decided, "I’d better report this to higher-ups. The weather lately has been pretty unpredictable."
With that, he left the main office and called the Secretary of Defense from his private office, "Hello, Mr. Secretary. We’ve detected a small tropical storm in the ocean that’s heading toward our fleet on exercise. Please be cautious."
"Hmm," the Secretary of Defense responded nonchalantly, "Alright, I appreciate the heads-up. I’ll make sure they’re on alert."
After hanging up, the Secretary of Defense scoffed, "Tropical storm? What a joke. If our carrier group can’t handle a little storm, we might as well just go home and babysit."
The storm, however, continued to move toward the United States.
This storm, indirectly created by Ye Fei and Wang Yueryao, had already absorbed several smaller storms in the Bermuda Triangle and grown to a diameter of over sixty meters.
Of course, compared to a true typhoon that would warrant warnings, this storm was still relatively small.
On satellite images, it appeared as just a speck. After all, sixty meters, while not insignificant, was still too small against the vast expanse of the ocean.
Nevertheless, it continued to grow. The sea surface was now in turmoil, churned into a frothy mess by the storm.
Under normal circumstances, even in this unusual region, a storm would struggle to grow in such conditions. However, in a highly unusual turn of events, the storm’s wind speed continued to intensify.
In just over three hours, it quickly escalated from eighteen meters per second to thirty meters per second.
At this point, the storm had reached Category 11 winds, with waves being sucked up into the air and then flung out as a dense mist, blotting out the sky.
A storm of this intensity could already be classified as a severe tropical storm. If it made landfall, it would uproot trees and wreak havoc.
Soon, the storm’s diameter exceeded one hundred meters and continued to grow rapidly. Dark clouds swirled in the sky, and thunder rumbled ominously.
At this stage, the storm had truly taken shape, leaving destruction in its wake. Its diameter was increasing at an alarming rate!
One hundred meters! Two hundred meters!
With every few kilometers it advanced, its diameter expanded by tens of meters!
By the time it reached the edge of the Bermuda Triangle, the storm’s diameter had reached five kilometers! It was on the verge of another growth spurt, just a hair’s breadth away!
Logically, without the smaller storms to feed on, this abnormal storm should have started to weaken. However, influenced by some unknown force, it not only defied logic but continued to grow even faster than before!
Ten kilometers! Wind speed at Category 13! Forty meters per second!
At this point, the storm was finally unmistakable on satellite images, and no one dared to underestimate it anymore!
And now, the storm had earned a new name!
Typhoon! Or, in American terms, hurricane!
The sea surface had become utterly terrifying! The water was whipped into a frenzy, with waves reaching heights of tens of meters.
The rain and mist thrown by the hurricane spread over a hundred miles, truly creating a scene of the ocean in upheaval!
A hurricane of this magnitude, if it hit land, would be powerful enough to tear roofs off buildings and uproot power poles!
