Chapter 416: Meeting of 416 Two People_1
Inside the cafe, two people sat opposite each other. Lu Qingyi was stirring her coffee quietly, head lowered in silence.
Lu Mohai was staring at Lu Qingyi, his guilt intensifying with every second.
"Qingyi..."
Lu Mohai took a deep breath as he called her name, his voice laden with guilt and affection.
This was his daughter, his flesh and blood, his child with Ruan Qingyang.
Lu Mohai was uncertain of his feelings at that moment - perhaps they consisted more of guilt than of joy.
"Hmm."
Lu Qingyi did not raise her head, her gaze still focused on her coffee, her expression nonchalant.
Speechless.
"How are you doing now?"
Lu Mohai asked as he glanced at Lu Qingyi, unsure of what else to say.
He couldn’t get any details about Lu Qingyi’s life as it now was.
"Not bad."
Lu Qingyi continued to lower her head.
Her life was okay, not great, but not terrible either, just ordinary.
"I’m sorry for what happened in the past."
Lu Mohai took a deep breath and said, seeing Lu Qingyi before his eyes, he felt as though he was seeing the young Ruan Qingyang.
If it hadn’t been for that accident back then, and if he’d held onto Ruan Qingyang more firmly, none of what followed would have occurred, and Lu Qingyi wouldn’t have had such a tough life. Lu Mohai was overwhelmed by guilt.
"It has nothing to do with you."
Lu Qingyi lifted her gaze to Lu Mohai, her expression still indifferent.
She had never looked closely at Lu Mohai before. Now, inspecting him carefully, she noticed an uncanny resemblance between their noses, as if they had been carved from the same mold. Their eyebrows were identical, as well.
"Take this."
Having no idea what else to say, Lu Mohai pulled out a bank card from his coat pocket and handed it to Lu Qingyi.
He didn’t know how to make amends - although money couldn’t compensate for much, it could make up for a little, couldn’t it?
"Keep it yourself, I don’t need it."
Lu Qingyi shook her head and pushed the bank card back toward Lu Mohai.
She had more than enough money and didn’t need any from Lu Mohai.
"Take it, it’s from me."
Lu Mohai reached for Lu Qingyi’s hand, placed the bank card in her palm, and said with a small, resigned smile.
This was his goodwill, what he owed her.
A daughter should be spoiled, and he had never been able to spoil her in all these years. Now he wanted to make up for it.
"Hmm."
Seeing the sincerity in Lu Mohai’s eyes, Lu Qingyi accepted the bank card and subtly lowered her head.
"Your hands are so cold, remember to keep warm. Your mother had the same icy hands."
The chill of Lu Qingyi’s hand seemed to seep into Lu Mohai’s bones. This was the same icy cold he’d always associated with Ruan Qingyang.
Lu Qingyi: "Hmm."
"When is your birthday?"
Not generally being a man with many words, Lu Mohai asked Lu Qingyi for the sake of small talk.
"December 14th."
"That’s in a little over a month. Can I celebrate it with you?"
Lu Mohai asked, unsure whether Lu Qingyi would agree.
Lu Qingyi: "As you wish."
"The Lu Family is in need of an heir."
Both of them were silent for a while before Lu Mohai dared to share this with Lu Qingyi. Ruan Qingyang was not interested in fame or fortune, and he speculated that perhaps Lu Qingyi was the same. He wasn’t sure what Lu Qingyi’s thoughts on the matter would be.
"Oh."
Lu Qingyi’s expression was as indifferent as ever. She didn’t say much about it.
The title of the heir to the Lu Family held no appeal for her.
"Can you... come back home?"
Lu Mohai looked down, stirring the coffee in his hands as he awkwardly asked.
He wanted Lu Qingyi to come back and resume her position as the young Mistress of the Lu Family, but he wasn’t sure if she’d agree.
"I’ll see."
Lu Qingyi replied right away, her expression as indifferent as always. She had never considered being the young Mistress of the Lu Family.
Lu Mohai’s expression sunk into disappointment, and he didn’t say anything further.
"I’m getting married."
After a long silence, Lu Qingyi suddenly spoke, her expression utterly serious.
Getting married was a big deal. Since Lu Mohai was her biological father, she felt she should inform him.
Getting married?
Lu Mohai lifted his head abruptly, his disbelieving gaze fixed on Lu Qingyi, questioning the truth of her statement.
Lu Qingyi was not even twenty years old yet –how could she be thinking of marriage?
Lu Mohai suddenly felt a pang of fear; fear that Lu Qingyi was being deceived. Afraid that like many other mature children, Lu Qingyi was rushing into marriage, being easily manipulated due to her lack of familial warmth.
"You’re not even twenty years old, it’s not urgent, is it? How about I help you check it out?"
Lu Mohai asked hesitantly. He was not sure he really had the right to say such a thing.
He hadn’t been with Lu Qingyi as she grew up and thus he might not have the authority to screen her boyfriend for her.
"He’s great, I’ve made up my mind."
Lu Qingyi shook her head gently and said, a smile flickering in her eyes as thought of Xu Boyan.
It’s hard to conceal your feelings for someone. It shows in your every gesture and word.
Seeing Lu Qingyi’s cold demeanor soften in an instant, Lu Mohai knew that she must truly love this person.
After all, love is something you can’t hide.
"Love cannot be hidden."
With a light chuckle, Lu Mohai slowly lowered his head.
Lu Qingyi was in pursuit of her true love, and Lu Mohai was in no way against it. What he feared was that Lu Qingyi would fall into a one-sided love.
He had never met Lu Qingyi’s boyfriend, nor did he know what kind of man he was. Hence, he couldn’t be sure whether this man truly loved Lu Qingyi.
Without saying a word, Lu Qingyi smiled faintly.
Love is a mystical thing, indeed impossible to hide.
"He’s very worth it."
Lu Qingyi slowly curved her lips into a smile, her eyes lighting up.
Yes, Xu Boyan was very much worth it.
Lu Mohai asked, "Can I meet him?"
Men instinctively know men; he could figure out whether this man truly loved Lu Qingyi or not.
Lu Qingyi deserved to be happy, she should not lead an unfortunate life.
"You’ve met him before."
Lu Qingyi raised her eyes and looked at Lu Mohai, her expression dead serious.
Xu Boyan and Lu Mohai knew each other. The only thing was - she had never mentioned her boyfriend to Lu Mohai and she had not told Xu Boyan that Lu Mohai was her biological father.
