Chapter 355: 355 Gu Yansi goes to Hardwick Academy for medical studies_1
Especially those who grew up with wealth and privilege, their gazes often neglect to acknowledge the peasantry.
"This place really is a paradise hidden from the world."
Lu Qingyi said softly, the corner of her mouth curling ever so slightly into a smile.
Ever since she met Wen Wanyu and the Gu’s, she had a sense that there was more to their identities than met the eye, but never pinned them down.
She knew they lived here, but she didn’t expect utter paradise to exist behind a somewhat worn-down facade.
The seemingly not-so-affluent couple revealed themselves to be secret magnates; everything in their courtyard held extraordinary value.
This was because they were all antiques, and antiques tend to come with a hefty price tag.
Wen Wanyu: "Not necessarily."
"Qingyi, you may want to see Lu Mohai."
It was already getting late; more than half of Lu Qingyi’s scarf was completed. As she was about to get up and leave, Wen Wanyu stopped her.
Her voice was especially gentle.
Wen Wanyu wasn’t trying to imply anything in particular, she had just thought that since Lu Mohai had helped Ruan Qingyang so much in the past, Lu Qingyi should visit Lu Mohai.
To give Lu Mohai something to look forward to.
For the past twenty years, Ruan Qingyang had served as Lu Mohai’s spiritual pillar. He had always been preoccupied with her, regardless of where she was or how she was doing.
Now that Lu Mohai has heard that Ruan Qingyang is no more, Wen Wanyu doesn’t know what state of mind he’s in. Whether he’s completely devastated or acting as if nothing has happened.
"He’s at Lu Mansion."
Lu Qingyi’s footsteps paused and she turned her head back to say a single sentence.
From her words, it can be inferred that she didn’t see the need - whether she saw him or not didn’t matter much to her. She even felt that there was no necessity for her to meet Lu Mohai.
"As you wish."
Wen Wanyu didn’t feel it was her place to say more.
Lu Qingyi’s thoughts couldn’t be constrained by her.
"Aunt Wen, Gu Yansi is now studying medicine."
Lu Qingyi’s hand rested on the door handle, she gently pulled the door open, then turned her head to look back at Wen Wanyu.
The matter of Gu Yansi studying medicine was something neither Wen Wanyu nor Gu’s knew about; it was all done in secret.
Gu Yansi didn’t dare tell his mother for fear she wouldn’t take the shock well, and Lu Qingyi never mentioned it to Wen Wanyu either.
The truth can only be covered up for so long. Wen Wanyu was bound to find out eventually, and would likely have a fierce reaction. So, it might be more prudent to come clean now.
"He... is learning... medicine?"
Wen Wanyu paused, looking at Lu Qingyi with an uncertain expression.
Beijing University does not offer a degree in medicine, and Gu Yansi’s computer studies don’t have anything to do with medicine either. Moreover, Gu Yansi is already a sophomore.
Wen Wanyu cannot wrap her head around how Gu Yansi has started studying medicine?
"Yes, he’s been studying for quite a while now, he didn’t dare to tell you."
Lu Qingyi nodded in confirmation.
"He’s a sophomore now, and at Beijing University."
Wen Wanyu lightly furrowed her brows.
She doesn’t have any opinions on what Gu Yansi decides to study now. Before, she used to worry that Gu Yansi would follow in his mother’s footsteps.
Her worry now lies with Lu Qingyi, who is the true daughter of Ruan Qingyang.
"He has been studying medicine at Hardwick Academy on weekends."
Lu Qingyi nodded as a sign of understanding and explained to Wen Wanyu.
Hardwick Academy?
Wen Wanyu looked up at Lu Qingyi in disbelief, questioning whether or not she had heard wrong.
Lu Qingyi mentioned Hardwick Academy, but what exactly is it? Is it a place one can simply choose to go?
At the time, Gu Yansi didn’t manage to get into Hardwick Academy because he was a few points short and hence went to Beijing University. How could a university that denied him an opportunity for being a few points short now offer classes to him on the weekend?
This made no sense.
"Qingyi, this isn’t a good joke."
Wen Wanyu shook her head gently.
"Gu Yansi is studying medicine at Hardwick Academy. He goes there on weekends and he’s learning quite well."
Lu Qingyi repeated, and added more details; every word from her was the truth.
"Hardwick Academy has never made exceptions before."
Wen Wanyu shook her head, she was a former student of Hardwick Academy, as was Ruan Qingyang.
She knew very well that Hardwick Academy didn’t have any such provision and it seemed implausible they would introduce something of this nature in the future.
"Now it does."
Lu Qingyi leaned against the door, her lips curling into a nonchalant smile.
Hardwick Academy might not have had this provision before, but now it does.
Wen Wanyu: "When did this happen?"
She wasn’t aware of it.
Lu Qingyi: "About half a month ago."
Right, from the moment Gu Yansi entered the university, it was formally established. He was the first and likely the last to do so.
Wen Wanyu was taken aback: "Who changed it?"
If Hardwick Academy’s regulations were to be changed, many people would know about it. It’s simply not possible for there to be no buzz about it.
"Lun Boyan."
Lu Qingyi quietly uttered one name.
The unsuspecting Lun Boyan suddenly sneezed hard, rubbing his nose, he wondered, "Who is cursing me?"
The poor guy was unknowingly drawn into the conversation by Lu Qingyi.
Indeed, he was completely innocent.
"There were no rumors."
Wen Wanyu gently shook her head, any slight change in the prestigious institutions would make it into the grapevine. Lun Boyan implementing such a rule, there’s no way it would not have created any noise.
"This is the first and probably the last time."
Lu Qingyi remarked seriously.
Hardwick Academy had no precedent for this, if it weren’t for the fact that Lun Boyan wanted to give her some face – or rather, he dared not offend her, a god of wealth – Gu Yansi’s exception would likely never have been made.
Helping Gu Yansi was initially just because he looked extraordinarily similar to Lu Jiahao.
Wen Wanyu: "..."
What’s all this about the first and last time? Wen Wanyu was utterly confused.
"Aunt Wen, you can ask Gu Yansi about this later. I have to go now. I’ll finish knitting the scarf tomorrow."
After saying this, Lu Qingyi closed the door behind her and vanished from Wen Wanyu’s sight.
Going to Hardwick Academy to study medicine?
During the weekend?
This idea seemed utterly absurd.
Gu Yansi was a student of Beijing University, not Hardwick Academy.
If Lu Qingyi had just said that Gu Yansi was going to a School of Medicine to study, she would have believed it. But Lu Qingyi said he was going to Hardwick Academy, a thing she found hard to believe.
Hardwick Academy was better than Beijing University, and a typical medical school was worse than Beijing University. This was the difference. Students of Beijing University couldn’t even get admitted to Hardwick Academy in the first place, so how can Gu Yansi suddenly start taking classes there just because he wants to study medicine?
"Old Gu, is Yansi coming home this weekend?"
Wen Wanyu opened the door to her house, Gu’s was weeding outside, she asked him.
Gu Yansi now knows his identity, but he has no intention of acknowledging his birth parents.
On the contrary, the tension between him and Wen Wanyu over not being allowed to study medicine has starting to ease.
