Unveil Her Secret Identities

Chapter 234: 234 I am an unexpected event_1

She’s pretty, albeit seems to be a minor. She probably isn’t someone important, right?

Qiu Long looked at Xu Boyan puzzled and waited for him to continue speaking.

"Protect her, so much as a strand of her hair shouldn’t come to harm."

Xu Boyan quickly put the photo back into the drawer and said to Qiu Long.

It seemed as though he treasured the photo and didn’t want Qiu Long to get a longer look at it.

Qiu Long: "Master Xu, may I ask who she is?"

He noticed that Xu Boyan’s eyes were gentle when he looked at the photo. He knew Xu Boyan to be aloof and unapproachable but had never noticed him capable of showing gentleness.

"The future Mrs. Xu."

Xu Boyan closed his eyes slightly and spoke in a soft voice.

Qiu Long: "..."

His expression changed somewhat. He hadn’t expected Xu Boyan’s assignment for him to be protecting a woman, which suddenly made him feel redundant.

"Master Xu, seeing as Qiu Long seems unwilling, how about I go instead?"

Xu Yi looked at Xu Boyan obsequiously, the expression on his face clearly pleading, "Let me go, let me go."

"Master Xu, I am willing."

Qiu Long bent slightly forward and spoke, assuming by Xu Yi’s words that he did not wish to go.

Qiu Long could not have imagined that anyone would willingly protect a little girl, which was essentially a role on the margins.

"You can stay in this apartment for now. I’ll notify you when it’s time to change your residence."

Xu Boyan pulled a key out of the drawer and threw it on the table as he said this.

"Xu Yi, take Qiu Long there."

Xu Boyan waved his hand dismissively.

As the door to his office closed, Xu Boyan massaged his brow and looked down at his phone, his features clouded by disappointment.

A whole day had passed, and Lu Qingyi hadn’t sent him a single text; nor had she responded to any of his.

Maybe she is busy?

But what could she be busy with?

——

Li Xiyi was leisurely cracking sunflower seeds in the living room while occasionally glancing in the direction of the lab door.

More than twenty-four hours had passed. Lu Qingyi hadn’t come out once since going in there the previous night.

She had ordered takeout for Lu Qingyi and urged her to come out to eat, but she had stayed put in the lab.

Lu Qingyi enjoyed conducting experiments in solitude, always preferring to lock the door. Without a key, Li Xiyi couldn’t get in.

Wasn’t she just running a DNA test? That shouldn’t take much time or require extensive experiments, should it?

Li Xiyi was rather confused as to why Lu Qingyi had still not come out.

"Qingyi, come out and eat something, or at least drink some water."

Li Xiyi put on her slippers, and lazily made her way to the lab door, gently knocking.

She didn’t know how to cook and had hoped to eat the meals cooked by Lu Qingyi in her villa. Unfortunately, she hadn’t had a single meal prepared by her and had been surviving on takeout.

The room was quiet, not a sound could be heard.

"If you don’t want to respond, at least make some noise. Otherwise, I might think you’re dead."

Li Xiyi knocked on the door a bit louder and raised her voice.

Come on.

Suddenly, the sound of a bottle hitting the floor echoed from inside.

Li Xiyi: "..."

Okay, she made some noise.

Would a word of response kill her? She’s speechless.

Dragging her slippers, Li Xiyi nonchalantly made her way back to the couch.

She took a sip of her milk tea and smacked her lips, "I wish I could eat something made by Lu Qingyi."

She had previously thought that coming to Kyoto meant she would get to eat a lot of delicious food. To her disappointment, she only had takeout.

Only takeout.

Being a typical lazy person who preferred to stay put rather than move, she didn’t like wandering around aimlessly. The villa was a good distance from the city, and she was just too lazy to go out and eat.

Lu Qingyi was an excellent cook who prepared meals and snacks that perfectly catered to her palate. It’s a pity, though, that she had not prepared a meal for her.

That girl used to love playing in the kitchen.

What Li Xiyi didn’t know was that it had been a while since Lu Qingyi last cooked.

The door to the lab suddenly opened, and out walked Lu Qingyi in a white lab coat. She had rolled up her sleeves, appeared a bit fatigued, and had her hair tied up in a bun.

Her dark under-eye circles indicated that she hadn’t slept the entire night.

"Finally, you’re out."

Li Xiyi didn’t bother to put on her shoes, she just jogged over to Lu Qingyi and said, barely withholding her anger.

"Xiyi..."

Lu Qingyi tightly held onto some documents in her hand. Her knuckles were visibly white as she spoke in a weak voice.

"What’s wrong?"

Step by step, Li Xiyi approached Lu Qingyi. She examined Lu Qingyi from head to toe and looked all around her, then asked with a tone of concern.

Lu Qingyi’s current state was quite alarming.

"Gu Yansi is the child of Lu Yao and Yao Meishu..."

After a long silence, Lu Qingyi slowly uttered a name, her gaze appearing somewhat vacant as she looked at Li Xiyi.

"Isn’t this what you suspected and anticipated?"

Li Xiyi looked at Lu Qingyi, confused. This was, after all, what Lu Qingyi had guessed from the beginning.

Lu Qingyi shouldn’t be reacting this way to an expected outcome.

"Gu Yansi was anticipated, but I was not."

As Lu Qingyi clenched the documents tighter in her hand, she took a deep breath and tried to appear calm.

She had correctly predicted Gu Yansi’s lineage, but she hadn’t expected the findings related to her own parentage. She and Yao Meishu didn’t just resemble each other by chance.

She hadn’t expected that she would have no biological relationship with Lu Yao or Yao Meishu; she was not their child

Nevertheless, she was related by blood to Yao Meishu.

Yao Meishu’s dislike of her probably stemmed from the fact that she wasn’t Yao Meishu’s biological daughter. That explained so much.

Lu Yao had probably been kept in the dark. He quickly gave her that strand of hair when she asked him for a sample. He wouldn’t have done so if he had suspected that she wasn’t his child.

She had tested the samples of everyone; Gu Yansi was indeed the biological child of Lu Yao and Yao Meishu.

So were Lu Jiayue and Lu Jiahao.

Yao Meishu had once stated that she gave birth to only three children. A possibility crossed Lu Qingyi’s mind, and she decided to test her own hair sample too.

The results were shocking. There was no paternal or maternal link between her and Lu Yao or Yao Meishu.

Lu Qingyi wasn’t sure how to feel at that moment.

Should she feel joy or sorrow?

"What do you mean?"

Li Xiyi was taken aback. She blinked, staring fixedly at Lu Qingyi.
