Chapter 181: Principal Lu said you have a way_1
Xu Boyan gave Ren Changming a dismissive glance before leaving, his gaze icy.
He recognized this man. He was the one he saw the last time he picked up Lu Qingyi.
"Was it a high school romance?"
Ren Changming walked behind Lu Qingyi, posing his question nonchalantly.
Since they were from the same school and the same department, Lu Qingyi did not particularly object to Ren Changming walking with her.
There was only one way to school.
"Yes."
Lu Qingyi’s expression was icy, her tone aloof. It seemed as though she would only ever utter a curt "yes" at any given time.
Ren Changming continued to ask, "Is he working?"
"You’re really noisy."
Lu Qingyi stopped in her tracks, shooting Ren Changming a frosty look.
What a chatterbox.
So many questions.
Silenced, Ren Changming shut his mouth, though his mind was still brimming with poignant inquiries.
When he first met Lu Qingyi, he had been lured in by her frosty demeanor, which kept everyone at arm’s length.
His initial impression of Lu Qingyi was of a cold woman.
Indeed, Lu Qingyi’s disposition was icy towards everyone. She was not just cold, but also arrogant, never batting an eye at anyone.
Ren Changming thought that Lu Qingyi treated everyone the same. To his surprise, it turned out that she had preferences after all.
At the entrance of the Medical College, Wei Song paced back and forth anxiously, his hands clasped together.
"Professor."
Ren Changming was the first to greet Wei Song.
"Professor Lu, I’ve been anxiously awaiting your arrival."
Wei Song didn’t even acknowledge Ren Changming. His gaze rested on Lu Qingyi, the gloom in his eyes brightening instantly.
Lu Qingyi remained uninvolved, "What’s the matter?"
"Could you do me a favor, please?"
Wei Song’s tone was saturated with desperation.
"Yes."
"My car is over there."
Wei Song kept chattering to Lu Qingyi, and the two of them walked up to Wei Song’s car.
The car sped away, leaving Ren Changming standing dumbfoundedly.
He had been totally overlooked by Wei Song.
And, Wei Song had called Lu Qingyi "Lu Professor"?
He must have heard it right. But why did that seem so improbable?
Why did Wei Song address Lu Qingyi with such respect, almost as though their roles had been reversed?
Could Lu Qingyi actually be of some assistance to Wei Song?
Ren Changming’s mind was clouded with a string of questions.
–––
"What happened?"
Leaning back, Lu Qingyi closed her eyes gently.
"It’s my girlfriend’s grandfather. He’s having some health issues."
Wei Song gripped the steering wheel, his voice laced with urgency.
His girlfriend was raised by her grandfather after her parents died when she was young. If something were to happen to her grandfather, she would be devastated.
"If he’s unwell, he should see a doctor. How can I be of any help?"
Lu Qingyi slowly opened her eyes, examining Wei Song’s expression through the rearview mirror.
She was Doctor L, but not many knew of her exceptional medical skills.
"Principal Lun said you would have a solution."
Wei Song replied.
After receiving his girlfriend’s call, he had sought out several renowned doctors through his connections. Unfortunately, all of them were at a loss.
He then called Lun Boyan, hoping that he could offer some help. As the Headmaster of Hardrick, Lun Boyan must have countless connections.
Lun Boyan assured him that Lu Qingyi would be able to help.
Wei Song didn’t doubt this. In his view, Lu Qingyi was incredibly capable.
"Typical old man, selling me out."
Lu Qingyi let out a cold laugh, curving her lips slightly.
Wei Song stayed quiet, observing Lu Qingyi’s expression through the rearview mirror. He was terrified that he might inadvertently provoke her wrath.
If she were to lose her temper, he thought, even his car might jump.
Of all the professors at Hardrick, only Lu Qingyi dared to call Lun Boyan an "old man".
"What exactly happened?"
Lu Qingyi asked.
"My girlfriend won’t stop crying. She hasn’t told me anything."
Wei Song shook his head.
His girlfriend was usually very independent and strong. He had never seen her vulnerable side before.
Her vulnerability was heart-wrenching.
"Okay." Lu Qingyi softly closed her eyes, surrendering to silence.
"Professor Lu, we’re here."
We Song parked the car and opened the door for Lu Qingyi.
Lu Qingyi rubbed her temples, slowly opening her eyes. She had slept early the previous night, yet she still felt tired today.
"Hospital?"
Lu Qingyi alighted the car and looked at the building in front of her.
Even though she was a doctor, she didn’t really like hospitals or the smell of disinfectants.
"Yes, in ward 206."
Wei Song said.
"Asong, you’re here?"
The door to room 206 was slightly ajar. Just as Wei Song pushed the door open, the woman inside, who was peeling fruits, turned around.
Her eyes were red and swollen.
An elderly man with snowy hair was lying in the sickbed. Blocked by the woman, Lu Qingyi couldn’t see the old man’s face.
"How’s grandfather?"
Wei Song hurried forward, asking with great apprehension.
"Grandfather just fell asleep." The woman heaved a soft sigh, "And who might this be?"
She hadn’t seen Lu Qingyi earlier because Wei Song was blocking her. Only after Wei Song stepped forward did Lu Qingyi come into view.
"Professor Lu, who I’ve often mentioned to you." Wei Song said. Then, he pointed at the woman and said to Lu Qingyi, "This is my girlfriend, Xue Yin."
"Professor Lu, I’ve often heard Wei Song mention you. I never imagined you’d be so young and beautiful."
Wei Song had often told her about Lu Qingyi, saying that she was young and pretty, and definitely the best teacher he’d ever had.
Wei Song always said that the person he admired the most was Lu Qingyi, that she had taught him a lot.
She didn’t think much of it at the time. How could a capable professor be young and beautiful?
Such a person couldn’t exist.
But upon laying eyes on Lu Qingyi, she was astounded.
The youngest devil professor at Hardrick, Lu, was indeed extraordinarily young and beautiful.
"No."
Lu Qingyi slowly curved her lips.
"Professor Lu, please have a seat."
Xue Yin hurriedly offered a seat.
Such a distinguished professor as Lu Qingyi couldn’t possibly be expected to stand, could she?
"No need, I’m used to standing."
Lu Qingyi declined.
Primarily, she feared that she might fall asleep if she sat. Right now, she was a bit sleepy. Standing up would keep her more alert.
"I’m truly grateful that you came to see my grandfather."
Xue Yin said.
As far as Xue Yin knew, Lu Qingyi was just a professor. She thought that Lu Qingyi had just come to visit her grandfather, and didn’t think much of it.
A number of famous doctors had already seen him, but none could present a good solution. The success rate of the proposed operations was less than five percent.
Surgery was too perilous. She wasn’t ready to take that risk.
She wanted to find another solution that might cure her grandfather’s disease.
