Chapter 176: 176 Be Your Exclusive Driver_1
Xu Boyan chuckled as he clasped Lu Qingyi’s hand firmly. A teasing smile formed around his lips.
It was rather pleasing to see that the young girl was thinking about him.
Off to the side, Ren Changming squeezed his fists tight. Watching the perfect couple before him, his heart ached as though it was being pricked by a needle.
They looked so sweet together, even the ordinarily impassive Lu Qingyi always wore a smile when she was with this man.
"Lu Qingyi, I’ll be heading back to the dormitory first. "
Ren Changming strove to maintain a calm expression as he announced his departure to her.
He was merely trying to preserve a sense of relevance for himself. The man’s eyes had been fixated on Lu Qingyi from the moment he walked in, as though Ren Changming was invisible to him.
Lu Qingyi gave Ren Changming a sidelong glance and said nothing.
His departure was his own accord, seemingly having nothing to do with her.
With Lu Qingyi’s silence, Ren Changming felt a hint of embarrassment. He nodded at Xu Boyan who was watching him before turning and leaving.
Xu Boyan thoughtfully watched Ren Changming’s retreating figure. It seemed like there was yet another person who had fallen for the young girl.
She was a bit slow at picking up on these things.
Xu Boyan loosened his grip on the suitcase handle and gently ruffled Lu Qingyi’s hair.
"Let’s go. I feel like having hot pot from the place on West Street."
Lu Qingyi slightly inclined her head as she watched Xu Boyan, speaking up.
She truly was in the mood for it. Quite greedy, in fact.
"Alright, let’s go eat."
Xu Boyan held Lu Qingyi’s hand in one hand and the suitcase in the other.
With no driver around, he was the driver for the day. Lu Qingyi’s personal driver.
"Do you drive?"
Lu Qingyi sat in the passenger seat, grinning at Xu Boyan who was sat in the driver’s seat.
Xu Boyan rarely drove. Xu Yi usually did most of the driving. When he first arrived at Jin City, it was usually Lin Yuanhang who was behind the wheel.
"I’ll be your personal driver."
Xu Boyan pinched Lu Qingyi’s cheek. He leaned over to buckle her into the seat belt, and planted a warm kiss on her forehead.
He didn’t frequently drive, but he was willing to be Lu Qingyi’s personal driver.
"That kind which lasts a lifetime."
Lu Qingyi looked into Xu Boyan’s eyes. She rarely gave thought to the future, nor was she given to anticipation. She didn’t feel she had anything particular to look forward to.
The world was constantly changing, as were the people in it; each second held so many different possibilities for change.
In Xu Boyan, she wanted to invest a lifetime’s worth of faith. She wanted to spend her every moment by Xu Boyan’s side.
"Ok, a lifetime is too short, I want to cover your next lifetime too."
Xu Boyan steered the wheels with his left hand, reaching out with his right to grasp Lu Qingyi’s left hand.
He feels he has met Lu Qingyi too late. He hopes to meet Lu Qingyi earlier in his next life.
He wants to accompany her as she grows up, make her childhood joyful and carefree.
The Happy Hot Pot was not crowded, it probably being a weekday. Xu Boyan directly parked the car in front of the restaurant.
"OH, they’re here."
The shop owner was wiping tables inside; upon hearing the car honk, he cheerfully greeted Lu Qing Xi and Xu Boyan with a genial wave.
The owner’s wife wasn’t there in the shop; instead, a young boy in his late teens was sitting behind the cash register. His features were attractive.
Lu Qingyi looked blankly at the boy for a moment. He bore a striking resemblance to Lu Jiahao; as though they were carved from the same mold.
"He’s my son, Gu Yansi. He’s a sophomore in computer science at Beijing University. He came to help in the shop today since he has no classes. "
The shop owner, surnamed Gu, pointed at the boy engrossed in checking the account books.
Gu Yansi was absorbed in studying the account book with a focused and calm demeanor.
"He seems.....familiar. "
Lu Qingyi nervously clung to Xu Boyan, whispering him. It was in fact a strange coincidence; the brows and eyes of Gu Yansi bore an uncanny resemblance to Lu Jiahao’s.
"You are such a tease!"
Owner Gu burst into laughter, his eyes brimming with joy.
His son was often aloof and reserved. He was always disinclined to talk and mostly preferred playing video games alone in his dorm room rather than hanging out with friends.
He didn’t have a wide circle of friends.
"Dad, there’s an error in these calculations."
The boy behind the counter looked up. He furrowed his brows, concentration evident in his expression.
When he was focused he rarely got distracted by the world around him, hence naturally he didn’t notice Lu Qingyi and Xu Boyan.
Glancing up, he noticed the eye-catching couple in front of him. He was momentarily surprised but soon hid his surprise.
"Where? Let me have a look."
Owner Gu quickly dropped the rag he was using and walked over, exuding a calm and composed demeanor.
"Dad, you need to stop with these little tricks. How could you, someone with a degree in mathematics, make such egregious errors."
Gu Yansi looked at his father with a hint of annoyance in his otherwise cool demeanour.
"How long has it been since you’ve been home? You come home just to upset your mother, who has been worrying about you so much."
Owner Gu put down the account book in his hand and looked at his son sternly.
Gu Yansi didn’t return home during summer break. Since starting university, his visits home have been few and far in between. Not only did he hardly call, whenever they called him he always came up with various reasons to excuse himself and end the call quickly.
He didn’t ask them for living expenses either. Whenever they transferred him money each month, he would promptly send it back.
"I currently lead the life she wanted for me."
Gu Yansi looked straight back into his father’s eyes, his tone of voice not particularly pleasant.
Despite not liking computer science, he still chose that field, following his mother’s wishes.
She vehemently opposed the field he wanted to study.
"No one loves you more than your mother."
Owner Gu patted Gu Yansi gently on the shoulder, sighing lightly as he spoke.
"Isn’t being a doctor a noble profession? Shouldn’t you both be happy that I love it so much?"
Gu Yansi never understood why his mother was so against his choice to pursue medicine.
As a child, watching the doctors and nurses save lives on TV, he always thought that being a doctor was an incredibly noble profession. A long time ago, he even started working hard toward getting into a medical school.
On the day his university entrance exam scores were released, he was extremely happy. He carried his scorecard to his parents.
With his score of 700, he’d easily get into a medical school. But when he told his parents his choice of university, his mother strongly objected.
She objected to him studying at a medical school. She objected to him becoming a doctor.
His mother usually indulged him and didn’t interfere too much with his decisions. That had been the first time she had been so resolute in her disapproval.
