Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Why Do You Have to Force Me
The light drizzle fell, dark clouds covered the sky.
Chen Feng stood at the edge of the tar road, with the taxi leaving from behind him.
Buzz!
[Chen Yun: Have you arrived, Xiao Feng? Why did you suddenly come to pick me up at the research institute?]
[It’s raining, do you have an umbrella?]
His phone vibrated continuously. Chen Feng saw the research institute building in front of him.
Rows of old houses laid with ceramic tiles, a new building rising floor by floor with floor-to-ceiling windows.
The grass was neat, the trees lush.
A metal gate blocked his view, with uniformed security checking the surveillance in the security booth.
Tap tap!
Footsteps were heard immediately.
A finely dressed young woman quick-stepped out, and only then did he see a La Royce parked by the side of the road.
A driver dressed in a suit hurriedly approached with an umbrella, escorting her away as Chen Feng stood beside them, brushing past.
"Why are you so eager to pick me up?"
"Miss, this was the president’s arrangement."
"Don’t use my dad to press me..."
Their conversation was whispered, and the young woman seemed somewhat impatient.
Chen Feng didn’t carry an umbrella; his hair was gradually getting wet from the rain and he wore a black short-sleeved martial arts training shirt that he hadn’t had time to change after sweating.
They exchanged a glance; the young woman looked indifferent throughout, sitting in the car and giving him a disdainful look as he got soaked in the rain, as if watching a fool.
Buzz!
The vehicle left, and Chen Feng squinted his eyes.
Then, he took his gaze back, picked up the phone, intending to have Chen Yun come out and leave together.
But...
Perception of an anomaly.
He suddenly noticed that in an alley not far to the right, there lingered a familiar aura.
He turned his head and spotted the front of a black car.
Inside sat two people. Through the black tinted windows, Chen Feng could feel they were watching him.
For no reason, malice resurfaced.
It was so familiar, so hard to forget.
Suddenly, the light rain soaked through his clothes.
With a calm expression, Chen Feng finally walked towards them.
...
"Why hasn’t Chen Yun come out yet, damn it, my legs are almost numb from waiting."
"It should be soon."
"By the way, has Brother Qiang found the fall guy for the job? I don’t want to end up in jail."
"He’s been found, don’t worry."
"That’s good then. Floor it later and don’t screw up."
The black car was parked at the entrance of the alley, which was a blind spot for surveillance cameras.
A supermarket was located a few meters to the left, and on the right was a closed fruit stand.
The two in the car chatted idly for a while, occasionally lighting a cigarette.
"Hey, did you see? The young lady was picked up."
"Seen it."
"Hmm... huh? Quick, the kid who got out of the taxi looks familiar."
The chubby man in the passenger seat suddenly uttered, water droplets streaked down the window, obstructing clear vision.
"Seems like... Chen Yun’s brother?"
The tall, thin man holding the steering wheel frowned, wiped the windshield to clear the rainwater, and quickly recalled a figure.
They exchanged a look and then paused their expressions.
The young man in black was walking towards them in the rain.
With a vigilant and guarded gaze, his footsteps were hurried; it didn’t take long before he passed in front of the car head and headed towards the nearby supermarket.
"Phew, scared me to death, thought we got busted."
The chubby man cursed and hesitated in reaching for his gun.
"We wouldn’t get busted so easily. I bet the kid doesn’t even know his sister is about to die."
"If only we could have some fun before killing her."
The tall, thin man sneered mockingly, revealing a cruel smile.
The chubby man showed a similar expression, then quickly turned to look at the research institute’s gate, and his eyes soon lit up.
"She’s coming out, she’s out!"
A girl in a white short sleeve walked out with her suitcase from inside. The tall, thin man’s expression changed abruptly, and he immediately revved the engine, ready to hit the gas.
The next second.
Bang!!!
The car window was smashed with one punch, shards of glass flying everywhere.
A large hand reached in from outside, grabbed his head and hair, and repeatedly smashed it against the steering wheel.
Thud thud thud!!!
Blood flowed, and the car horn blared continuously.
"Damn it!"
The chubby passenger’s complexion shifted, he hurriedly reached for his gun and aimed.
But as if sensing something.
The figure outside suddenly disappeared. He stood stunned.
When he looked again, the tall, thin man’s head sagged, slumped on the steering wheel, blood streaming, breathing weakening.
His heart trembled, and his head turned left and right, ready to make a last stand.
Bang!!
The car window beside him suddenly shattered, and a muscular arm, like a concrete pillar, came swinging violently in.
Before he could fire the trigger, the fat man felt his head smashed by a hammer, his eyes bloodshot, dead on the spot.
Crack!
Immediately, the car door was pulled open.
Chen Feng stood where he was with wet hair, expressionless, his clothes gradually soaking through.
Silence eased for two seconds.
Buzz!
Buzz!
The phone vibrated; he moved forward and searched the fat man’s body for a moment.
[Brother Qiang]
The incoming call alert showed on the fat man’s phone; Chen Feng did not hesitate to answer.
"Hello? Fatty, is Chen Yun’s matter taken care of?"
The voice sounded like that of a twenty-seven or twenty-eight-year-old; Chen Feng stood in place, silent.
"Hello? Fatty?"
"Hello?"
Several calls went unanswered.
The other party fell silent for two seconds.
"You’re not Fatty? Who are you?"
Beep!
Chen Feng hung up the phone, his eyes now completely cold.
Immediately, he closed the car door, walked over to the driver’s seat, unbuckled the seatbelt, and threw the tall and skinny man’s body onto the back seat.
A feeling of irritation kept rising in his heart; the blood in his veins grew hotter and more scorching.
All he wanted was to focus on martial arts, to pursue the mysterious transcendent.
But why... must they force me?
Taking a deep breath, Chen Feng sat in the driver’s seat, his gaze flickering for several seconds.
Finally, after the phone vibrated again, he solidified his thoughts.
[Chen Yun: Xiao Feng, I’m at the institute’s entrance. Have you arrived?]
"Go back to the dorm and wait for me for an hour."
After sending the message, Chen Feng put away his phone and gripped the steering wheel tightly.
He pressed the accelerator, and with a hum,
the vehicle sprinted out and disappeared from the spot in the blink of an eye.
"That’s strange."
Holding an umbrella and a suitcase at the entrance of the institute, Chen Yun glanced over to the alley not far to her left.
A black car honked several times before quickly becoming silent.
Immediately her phone vibrated, and she saw the message from Chen Feng.
Although surprised, she didn’t ask further, and quickly advised:
"Be careful, and don’t rush."
"I’ll wait for you."
After sending the message, she looked again, and the black car had already left the alley, disappearing at the end of the street.
"Who the hell are you?"
At the top floor corridor of a building with floor-to-ceiling windows, a youth in a black suit, looking like an elite, held his phone with a sour expression.
Beep!
The silence that answered him was unsettling, and the sound of the call disconnecting hinted that something was amiss.
Wasn’t the plan foolproof? Could something have gone wrong?
Grasping the phone, silent for several seconds, he quickly turned and walked, knocking on the office door behind him.
Knock knock!
"Come in."
A calm voice sounded, and although the youth was anxious, he gently pushed open the wooden door.
Glancing over, he saw a middle-aged man in a dark shirt sitting in the spacious leather sofa area.
A pearwood desk was set in the center, with a woman in a cheongsam kneeling and making tea for him.
"President."
"Speak." Gao Tianheng didn’t even look up, casually accepting the clear tea handed over by the woman in the cheongsam.
The faint scent of tea lingered; the youth hesitated for a moment but then reported truthfully, "There’s been a complication."
"Fatty’s phone was answered by someone else."
Gao Tianheng paused in his movement and looked up at him.
"Who?"
"I don’t know; no one spoke."
The youth briefly stated the facts, not daring to withhold anything.
Upon hearing this, Gao Tianheng fell silent, the only sound in the office was him quietly sipping tea.
"Call Ah Biao and the others back."
The youth was taken aback, never expecting that they would have to bring in Ah Biao and his crew to deal with a minor character.
Then, before he could recover, Gao Tianheng looked up again:
"Is Xiao Xue picked up?"
"She’s on her way, about to arrive downstairs."
"Mm."
Nodding slightly, Gao Tianheng’s expression finally eased a bit, returning to his calm and composed demeanor.
"Make arrangements, let her stay at the company tonight."
"Though they’re just little ants, it’s alright to be cautious."
