Chapter 40: Mina – The Matchmaker in Training

Ethan followed Mina through the grand hallways. His eyes darted around, still trying to absorb everything. Expensive paintings lined the walls, exotic vases sat on ancient-looking stands.

He tried to admire the place like a tourist would, but something kept itching at the back of his mind.

So... this is where the mafia lives, huh?

Ethan’s gaze shifted to a hallway on the left. Dimly lit. Narrow. Probably soundproof.

Yup. That’s definitely where they torture people.

"Big brother~!" Mina called out, giggling as she looked over her shoulder.

Ethan blinked. "Hm?"

"You’re smiling weirdly. Are you scared?" she teased.

"No," Ethan chuckled. "Just wondering if I’m going to stumble into a secret underground or something."

Mina put both hands behind her back and leaned closer with a playful grin. "We do have one of those~"

Ethan froze.

"...Wait, seriously?"

Mina just giggled and skipped ahead, ignoring his concern entirely.

"Why are you giggling so much anyway?" he asked, catching up beside her.

"Because I’m happy!" she beamed. "Big brother is going to live with us now! We’ll play lots of games, and I’ll show you everything! Even my secret candy stash!"

Ethan laughed." Sure we will play a lot."

This girl really loves me like her real brother.

Mina nodded with a bright smile, her eyes sparkling like little stars.

Eventually, they arrived at a oak door. Mina dramatically flung it open.

"Tadaaa~!"

Ethan’s jaw dropped.

The room was huge, almost the size of his entire apartment back in his old world. A massive king-sized bed with an embroidered black-and-gold comforter stood at the center. There were couches, bookshelves, a flat-screen TV, and even a personal minibar stocked with fancy imported drinks. Floor-to-ceiling windows looked out onto a moonlit garden.

He stepped in, stunned. "This is... mine?"

"Yep!" Mina twirled. "This is your room now!"

Ethan dropped his hospital bag onto the bed and sat down carefully. Even the mattress felt like it cost more than his tuition.

"You should rest, big bro," Mina said sweetly. "I’ll tell the maids to make something yummy for you!"

Before Ethan could say thank you, she zoomed off like a missile down the hallway.

Ethan laid back, finally exhaling everything he’d been holding in.

"So much has happened..." he muttered. "A bus explosion, fighting assassins, Crazy Serena... a freaking crazy goddess, who dont know what she was saying... mafia grandpa... and now I live in a mansion with those mafias."

He rubbed his forehead.

"And if this world’s main characters are going to start popping up soon as the goddess said... I’ll have to deal with them too."

Ethan turned on his side and pulled the blanket over himself. "Alright. Just a short nap. Then we—"

BANG!!

A loud thud echoed through the room like someone had kicked the door open with a steel boot.

Ethan’s eyes snapped open.

He stared at the ceiling, eyes twitching.

"...Are you f**king serious? I JUST laid down!"

He froze.

Standing at the doorway, dripping wet, was a woman. A towel wrapped loosely around her body, very loosely. Water still clung to her soft, porcelain skin like dew on morning petals. Her mid-length black hair, soaked and glistening, framed her flushed face. A few wet strands clung to the side of her neck, trailing dangerously down her exposed collarbone.

But the towel...

Oh boy.

It was doing a terrible job.

The edge of the towel dipped way too low, teasing the curve of her cleavage.Water trickled along her smooth skin, framing the soft slopes of her upper bosom. Her long, toned legs were bare, the towel ending just at mid-thigh, and a few traitorous droplets rolled slowly down her thigh and into the space between.

Ethan’s entire brain blue-screened.

What divine sight is this?! he screamed internally.

His jaw fell open. The tension in his shoulders evaporated like hot mist. His mind was blank.

He rubbed his eyes.

Still there.

He pinched his cheek.

"Ow. Okay. Not dreaming."

The woman was Natalie.

She blinked, realizing someone was on the bed.

"Oh—sorry. Wrong room," she said in a calm voice and turned to leave.

Then she stopped.

Her eyes scanned the room.

Her expression twisted.

"KYAAAHHHH!!!" she shrieked, covering her chest with one hand, even though, let’s be honest, there wasn’t much towel to work with.

"What are you doing in my room?!"

Ethan tilted his head like a confused puppy.

"...So sexy," he whispered involuntarily.

"What. Did. You. Just. Say?" Her voice dropped an octave.

Ethan immediately sat upright, back straight like a soldier. "N-Nothing!"

She stomped forward, eyes narrowed. "Why are you in my room?!"

Ethan blinked, finally registering her face properly.

"Natalie. This is your room?"

"Yes!" she barked.

Ethan scratched his head.

Natalie glared.

He held up his hands. "Look, I didn’t choose this! Mina told me to rest here. I thought this was a guest room or something!"

There was a long pause.

Then—

"Minaaaaaa!!!" Natalie’s voice shook the entire floor.

Outside the door, a giggle echoed like a mischievous fairy.

"Plan successful," Mina whispered to herself. "Time to act."

She arrived in a second later, all innocence and sparkles. "Yes, sis~?"

Natalie turned to her like a volcano ready to erupt. "You—you—just wait!"

"Wait for what?" Mina blinked innocently.

Natalie stormed off into the closet.

Ethan stayed frozen on the bed.

Then she returned, this time dressed in short cotton shorts and a sleeveless tank top that still showed off a dangerous amount of skin.

"Okay, start explaining. Why did you give him my room?!"

Ethan sat up like a confused third wheel. "Yeah, Mina. Why?"

Inside, though, he was already lighting fireworks.

Thank you, Mina. Bless your mischievous soul.

Mina skipped over to the bed, completely ignoring Natalie.

Then she turned to Ethan and smiled like a little devil in disguise.

"Because," she said sweetly, "I did it for you, sis."

Natalie blinked. "Huh? For me?"

Mina turned back to Ethan, leaned forward dramatically with wide eyes, and said,

"Big brother, please marry her!"

Silence.

Natalie’s face turned red like a tomato being pressure-cooked.

Ethan short-circuited.

"W-what?! M-marriage?!" he choked.

Mina giggled. "Yup! You saw her in a towel already, right? That means you have to marry her!"

Natalie exploded. "YOU LITTLE—!!!"
