Chapter 48: 46, She is my girlfriend!
The next second, a bottle of Coke appeared in Luofeng’s bag.
Luofeng didn’t have time to say anything; he just opened it and finished it in one gulp.
Then, he took off running toward the artificial lake.
Having run three kilometers without a proper rest, and now about to dive into the water to save someone, was impossible without an instant recovery of his stamina.
"Hey, didn’t you have a cramp?"
"Where are you going?"
Lin Ruoxi hadn’t heard the shouting from that direction and thought someone was merely arguing.
She stood up and looked over.
A little girl and a middle-aged man were in the water, struggling frantically.
Yet, none of the onlookers around had jumped in to help.
SPLASH.
When Luofeng reached the lakeside, he immediately jumped in. The body’s previous owner had been athletic and naturally knew how to swim.
Having just run three kilometers, he definitely wouldn’t have had the energy to rescue anyone.
But now, after drinking the energy drink, his stamina was fully restored.
"Sir, sir, don’t panic! Try to stay balanced!"
"Yes, hold on to me! Don’t panic!"
Once Luofeng was in the water, he found that the child’s father was a barely competent swimmer; with just a little support, he could stay afloat.
The little girl, on the other hand, was struggling ceaselessly.
If both had been complete non-swimmers, it would have been very difficult for Luofeng to bring them ashore.
Fortunately, holding onto Luofeng, the father found his rhythm and began to float.
The entire rescue process took a minute.
But Luofeng swore... this was the most exhausting moment of his life.
Saving people was truly exhausting.
The little girl just wouldn’t listen to Luofeng and kept struggling relentlessly.
There’s a saying that’s absolutely true: without absolute strength, don’t even think about going into the water to save someone. You’ll likely exhaust yourself to death too.
"They’re saved! They’re saved!"
"Both of them are out!"
Luofeng listened to the continuous cheers from the crowd around him while he himself was panting hard, HUFF, HUFF.
Honestly, he was glad they weren’t far from the shore.
If they had been in the center of the lake, even with his stamina fully restored, Luofeng wouldn’t have been able to save them.
Soon, the ambulance arrived. Someone from the crowd must have called 110.
"Sir, the little girl’s father has been taken away in the ambulance. He asked me to get your contact information so he can properly thank you."
"No need," Luofeng refused without hesitation. Could your thanks possibly be better than the System’s reward?
Luofeng knew that a key desire of Lin Ruoxi’s—one the System probably wanted him to fulfill—was for him not to be a ’wimp.’ By saving someone, he would definitely prove he wasn’t.
Of course, that wasn’t necessarily the only reason Luofeng had saved them.
But why should one have to leave their name after doing a good deed anyway?
Dragging Lin Ruoxi along, Luofeng quickly fled the scene; he disliked being the center of attention for such a large crowd.
"Luofeng!"
Reaching a park bench, Luofeng plopped down.
But the way Lin Ruoxi was looking at him, it was as if she wanted to eat him alive.
"What’s the matter, beauty?"
"What’s the matter?" Lin Ruoxi looked at Luofeng with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile. "Faking cramps twice in a row, was that fun for you?"
"This... this..." Luofeng was at a loss for words, merely giving an embarrassed COUGH, COUGH, and a chuckle.
"Such good stamina—running three kilometers and then diving in to save someone? Was deliberately letting me win the race fun? You acted so convincingly..." Lin Ruoxi was genuinely furious. She had thought she’d won, only to realize it was all thanks to his acting.
Some wimp, huh? Able to run three kilometers and still jump into the water to save people?
She herself knew how to swim and was well aware that rescuing someone required immense stamina and excellent swimming skills.
"I really was tired from running then; I didn’t let you win. And I genuinely did get cramps both times," Luofeng insisted. Of course, he wouldn’t admit the truth; men often have to staunchly deny things.
"Alright, alright, I understand," Lin Ruoxi blushed slightly, then looked at Luofeng with concern. "Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you?"
"I’m fine, I’m fine. Didn’t swallow any water. My swimming skills are pretty good," Luofeng said with a humblebragging smile. "But now we need to go to the mall and buy a new set of clothes."
"Buy clothes..." Looking at Luofeng, soaked from head to toe, Lin Ruoxi nodded. Rich people really have it good, don’t they? No need to go home and change, just buy new ones directly?
Nearby Lujiazui, there was a mall in the Tomson First Class residential complex. The first to fourth floors were shops, and the floors above were apartments.
Luofeng randomly picked a men’s clothing store.
And went to change his clothes.
"Miss, what happened to your boyfriend?" the sales clerk asked, her curiosity piqued as she watched the drenched Luofeng grab new clothes and head straight for the fitting room.
"He... he... he’s not my boyfriend," Lin Ruoxi’s face immediately turned a faint red as she shook her head in denial.
I wish he were my boyfriend, she thought. He’s rich, has a good physique, is humorous and witty, always says things that resonate with me, and never says anything I dislike. It’s a pity I don’t know him well enough yet.
"Not your boyfriend? That’s a shame. That gentleman has a really nice physique!"
The sales clerk, after all, had seen Luofeng’s T-shirt drenched and clinging to him, so she could naturally tell. It was completely see-through.
Luofeng emerged, having changed into a set of clean clothes. Just then, he was surprised to see Lin Ruoxi’s ’first desire’ pop up: If only he were my boyfriend.
Whatever the case, he grabbed her hand and declared to the sales clerk, "Who says I’m not her boyfriend? I am!"
But the next moment, the reward didn’t come.
Hmm, does this mean I actually have to *be* her boyfriend to get the reward?
"Luofeng, what are you talking about?" Lin Ruoxi became even more embarrassed.
Luofeng gave a COUGH, COUGH, and a chuckle, swiped his card, and pulled her out of the shop.
But he noticed her cheeks were still flushed, and she seemed a touch annoyed.
"I was just kidding. Are you really angry?"
"Not really. It’s just... the way the sales clerk was looking at me was a bit... you know." Lin Ruoxi was indeed a little angry, but not much; mostly, she was just embarrassed.
Luofeng just grinned cheekily but said nothing.
He began to check his system panel.
He had received the 4 Attribute Points from before, and the reward, surprisingly, was still a luxury watch exchange card.
Luofeng continued to save up his Attribute Points.
As for the luxury watch exchange card, he immediately clicked to use it.
"Luofeng, where are we going now?" Wandering aimlessly wasn’t a solution, so Lin Ruoxi asked.
"Hold on, I’m getting a call!" Luofeng was about to answer, but his phone started ringing.
"Oh!"
"Okay!"
"We’re nearby; we’ll be there soon!" Luofeng nodded while speaking. After hanging up, he said, "Let’s head over to the J.LIFE Jinmao Fashion Life Center! The wrist watch I ordered has arrived..."
"Oh, is that so? Maybe I shouldn’t go then?" Lin Ruoxi said tentatively.
"Let’s go together. Haven’t you forgotten? I still owe you a little surprise. You actually outran me, which was very impressive, you know."
Seeing the way Luofeng spoke, Lin Ruoxi rolled her eyes. "You let me win."
"But the fact is, you won."
"Alright then. Just don’t tell me the surprise is giving me a watch. For a young master like you, watches aren’t cheap, are they?"
"Don’t worry, this one is for me," Luofeng chuckled, playfully flicking her on the head. "What are you thinking? My watch is very expensive."
"Oh, oh, okay, then let’s go!" Lin Ruoxi nodded in agreement.
Soon, the two of them set off in the Audi R8.
This seemed to be her first time seeing a luxury car of this caliber, as she curiously inspected it.
"I’ve heard that female passengers in the co-pilot seat get hot easily. Are you hot?" Luofeng recalled a comment made by some ’female loser’ he’d heard about and started to tease.
"Not really, the air conditioning is working fine!"
Luofeng smiled without replying. She seems so innocent, he thought. I’ve really struck gold.
Without saying much more, they headed straight for the J.LIFE Jinmao Fashion Life Center.
It wasn’t far, so Luofeng didn’t really need to drive, but he had to take the car with them regardless.
