Twisted Destiny
Chapter 241: Wisdom

I teleported us all home and we got greeted by Brielle and her kids who had kept the mansion in working order, or even better it seemed as Brielle had apparently been able to set up somewhat of a side business for herself that she ran out of the mansion, mainly selling her own home cooking.

She looked a bit concerned at Sam and I but as we seemed not in the greatest mood to talk about what happened, she decided to not ask anything either, just welcoming us and offering some good comfort food, sadly for the food none of us were really interested at this time.

We excused ourselves as it was rapidly nearing our time to cross worlds once more and made our way to our bedroom with me carrying Sam the last couple of meters to the bed. “Your body’s vicinity near me should heal you up completely by the time we enter this world the next time. I don’t know what that’ll be though. I think I need a bit of a break.”

“As long as it’s not more than a month in this world’s time, right? Otherwise we’ll get an earful from some important people.”

I smiled. “Then we will get an earful, like I care.” A warm fuzzy feeling washed over me once I said that.

“Haha.” Sam laughed but then immediately started coughing. “Ouch…”

“Sorry.” I quickly tucked Sam in so she could only move the least amount possible. “Didn’t mean to make you love. But you are probably right. How much free time does that give us?”

“Uh, let me do quick math in my head. Three days here equals eight hours back on Earth, which means…. eighty hours?”

“So three days of free time on earth… If only the flow of time would be more equal.” I sighed.

“Yeah… it’s pretty harsh…” Sam nodded slowly. “But we’ll manage.”

I nodded and started undressing myself after which I got into bed next to my, still clothed, girlfriend.

She looked at me lovingly but with a cheeky smile. “Maybe I should have undressed as well.”

“Maybe, but you were barely wearing anything anyway and bandages don’t count.”

“Bandages work perfectly fine for bras.” Sam protested. “Don’t shame bandage wearers across the world.”

“In Japanese they are called Sarashi.” I corrected Sam.

“See, it exists. Don’t shame the Japanese. It’s very dishonorable”

I rolled my eyes and gave my girlfriend a good night’s kiss. “Don’t go acting like a samurai now or I’ll make it so it takes even longer for your body to get better.”

“Yes, ma’am. I promise” She playfully kissed me back. “Good night, Ami.”

“Good night, Sam.”

It felt like ages ago since I last woke up in my own bed with human Sam cuddling up to me. She had already gotten rid of her headset. Her body looked to be in perfect shape but by the bags underneath her eyes I could tell that her mind wasn’t so well-rested. That said, it didn’t have any scars like my sister’s body had from her wound.

“You look incredibly tired…” I said, reciprocating her hug.

“So do you.” She smiled softly.

I did also feel pretty tired, though it wasn’t my body that was feeling sluggish. It was just my mind.

A knock on the door later my sister immediately introduced herself into my room, instantly jumping around my neck to embrace me. Nikki, at the same time, went over to Sam to give her a hug as well.

“I am not letting you go to university today, I hope you understand that.” My sister stated as she held me in a very tight hug.

“Yes, the both of you should take a couple of days off to relax a little, after such a harrowing experience.” Nikki added.

“I think we were both planning on doing so.” Sam nodded into Nikki’s hug. “We did pretty much die after all…. That feels crazy to say.”

“But it’s true.” My sister agreed. “And please don’t tell your parents about this.”

“I won’t.” Sam quickly responded. “They would have a hard time understanding that anyway… Even though they know about Ami and magic.”

“Yeah… I don’t want them to forbid you from seeing me. That would probably kill me for real.”

“Even if they did, I would find a way to get to you.” Sam replied. “But I would definitely prefer their blessing when it comes to you.”

“Alright, then that entire thing stays within the group and no one ever talks about it outside of it. Otherwise we will need to go and ask Veanya to work some of her memory magic, and I would very much prefer not leaning on her skills too often…” My sister slowly released me from her hug when I noticed something about her chest.

“Hey, it looks like your scar is gone too.”

My sister looked confused and while Nikki backed off from Sam she inspected herself, stretching her oversized shirt away from herself. “Oh… you are right, it is gone…”

“That’s good news… right?” Nikki asked, peeking my sister’s shirt as well.

“I think so.” Lise then looked at me and Sam. “Both of you don’t have any scars either?”

Sam quickly looked at herself and shook her head. “Nope, nothing, just tiredness.”

I also shook my head. “And the only thing I have is this cracked armband.” I showed my arm to them. “And a little bit of fatigue as well.”

“Okay, good.” My sister calmly nodded. “No otherworldly scarring is a good thing, I’m sure of it.”

Nikki smiled. “Now that we have decided you two are going to rest up, what are you going to do? Spend the entire day inside?”

“Good question.” I looked at Sam. “Should we?”

“While I would like to spend the entire day in bed, maybe we should just do something relaxing around town? Maybe visit my parents after?”

“Aren’t your parents going to ask questions about you not going to uni?”

Sam shrugged. “Nah, They say I’m old and wise enough to not get myself into trouble…. which is true when it’s not any trouble that involves you at least. Besides, I really want to see my parents.”

“Understandable.” Élise nodded.

“Alright, then that’s our plan for today.” I agreed before I looked at Nikki and my sister. “And what are you two going to do?”

“Probably work.” My sister replied, not looking terribly happy about that prospect.

“That would be best honestly. We’ve slacked a bit too much lately, we still have some holiday set for later this year and we would prefer to keep a couple of days in case we get into an emergency.”

“Which is more likely than not to happen with you around.” My sister rubbed her hand through my hair.

Nikki frowned slightly. “We obviously would like to spend the day with you, especially after what happened but…”

“The bills do still need to get paid as well.” I finished Nikki’s sentence.

“Exactly.”

“It’s a shame we can’t use the dwargon money here.” I sighed.

“We could technically smelt it, but we would rather soon get a tax audit asking us where we got the money for so much pure gold.” My sister laughed nervously. “I have thought about this before, I don’t think it’s a terribly great idea.”

“Thinking about tax evasion on a regular basis?” Sam smirked.

“Look, it doesn’t happen often that your sister can summon gold from a different world to this one, okay. And you know how shower thoughts work.”

Sam chuckled but didn’t bother replying, leaving the door open for Nikki to pull on my sister’s arm. “Come, let’s go earn some legal money, don’t get into an argument with the kids.”

Both Sam and I started to laugh and Nikki started to giggle as well.

“Alright.” Lise gave up with a smile and came over to hug me and Sam one final time. “We will try to not make it too late. As you know, the fridge is stocked so eat whatever. I would appreciate a message though if you are not going to be back at 4. Not because you need to be here, but because I’d worry my ass off.”

“I understand.” I smiled. “We will keep you posted through the day where we are.”

“Thanks. That’ll at least keep my mind at ease.”

“See you two later.” Nikki smiled. “We will make some waffles and put them on the kitchen counter for you as well.” And so both Nikki and my sister left the room to prepare themselves for work.

Sam, at the same time, pulled the blanket back over herself. “While I did say I didn’t want to stay in bed the entire day, I wouldn’t mind just staying in a little longer, at least until those waffles are ready.”

“That sounds like a great idea.” I let Sam cover me again as well and then curled my tail around her leg. “There’s no better way to start the day than getting up from bed and immediately shoving a warm waffle in your face.”

“That quote is going into the history books.” Sam chuckled and gave me a kiss.

“Waffle wisdom, best wisdom.”
