Chapter 462: In the Killing March Toward Eternity Chapter 423 Arrival Two

She was fed up with those lecherous colleagues, and now they even sent her a set of ultra-short skirts and stockings under the guise of public service—weren’t they doing it on purpose to embarrass her? It made her feel scorchingly uncomfortable all over, as the male creatures around her couldn’t help but leave sizzling stares upon her body as they brushed past. They shone on her like spotlights, greatly uneasing her.

"Hey, hey, hey, Annis, any situation?"

The voice of the team leader came from the in-ear headphones by her ear.

"What situation could there possibly be?" Annis lifted her wristwatch as if to check the time, but was actually responding to a page.

"The bigwigs must be watching too much sci-fi and going nuts, why do us intelligence folks have to get dragged into this too?"

"How would I know? But do you really think those people don’t exist?" The team leader’s voice had a strange undertone.

Annis was stunned for a moment, "They really exist? Which country’s bio-weapon is it? Or is it an alien invasion of Earth?"

"I’m not sure about that, but I have seen that video," the tone of the team leader’s voice became serious. "Anyway, there’s nothing for our intelligence group to do; getting to see your sexy get-up, Annis, consider it a vacation. Isn’t that great? Ha ha..." His voice lightened again.

"You jerk!" Annis put down her watch and turned off the communication. Once again, she uncomfortably wriggled her hips. The tight, black skirt was too constraining and made her very uncomfortable.

Bang!

Having just put down her watch and not even had time to look up, she suddenly felt her forehead collide with someone in front of her.

"Don’t you have eyes?!!" She shouted out loud.

When she lifted her head to look, she was suddenly taken aback.

The person standing in front of her was a young man with attractive features, or rather, it seemed almost insufficient to describe him merely as attractive. He wore gray sunglasses, his skin was pale and luminous, and most mysteriously, there was a golden and delicately patterned emblem that seemed to be embroidered right at the center of his forehead, giving him a seductively eerie aura.

Annis suddenly felt a slight dazzle.

"I’m sorry," the man apologized gently, "but I have been standing still right here." He shrugged innocently.

Annis’s face flushed.

"So you’re saying it’s my fault?" she raised her voice even louder.

"Of course." He continued to look at her gently.

Annis held his gaze unyieldingly, but within seconds, she completely caved.

"It’s too blinding..." Finally, she couldn’t help but rub her eyes. Merely making eye contact for a few seconds had felt like those eyes were emitting a faint golden light.

"Alright, suppose it’s my fault, then shouldn’t you as a gentleman show a bit more grace?"

"Alright, beautiful lady, if you insist." He nodded nonchalantly. "I am very sorry to have been bumped into by you, lovely lady." He removed his sunglasses and bowed slightly as he smiled in apology.

Annis couldn’t help but chuckle.

"Forget it, my fault."

"Actually, I am a tourist who just arrived from out of town. Could you perhaps introduce me to this city and its surrounding attractions?" The man asked gently and courteously.

Annis glanced at his attire; aside from the tattoo at his brow, it was quite the standard tourist look.

"This is Norsent City, home to the biggest amusement park in the United Kingdom. The other attractions aren’t as famous, so I recommend giving it a visit."

"Norsent City, United Kingdom?" The man seemed momentarily puzzled. "Excuse me, madam, could you tell me the current year, month, and date?"

Annis looked at him as if he were an idiot.

"Of course, it’s April 3rd, 2031."

"2031..." The man seemed stunned, as if surprised.

"Are you alright?" Annis wondered, hoping she wasn’t dealing with someone fresh from the asylum.

"I’m very good." The man came back to his senses and gave Annis a polite smile. "Thank you for the information, but I have something to attend to, so I must be going."

"Oh..."

Annis watched, baffled, as he turned and left smoothly.

"Annis!!! Good heavens!! What on earth are you doing!?" A frantic voice came from behind her. "What’s going on?? Why aren’t you responding to calls!? Don’t tell me you’ve broken this year’s equipment again!!"

Annis snapped back to reality with a similarly dark expression. Turning around, she indeed saw a middle-aged man with whitening hair receding at the top hurrying towards her.

She lifted her wrist and spoke in an overly sweet tone.

"Dear team leader! If my sensor device is still intact, how would you....uh!!" She froze, startled at the sight of the utterly destroyed wristwatch, and went blank.

*****************

At the top of a massive clock tower.

Next to the grey-black railing, a middle-aged man stood still, gazing at the distant landscape. His attire was exceptionally grand: a golden robe, a gem-encrusted gold belt, and elegant black boots. But what stood out the most was the light golden moustache at the edge of his lips, fashioned into the imperial style, giving him an aura of a classical European noble.

"Such a wonderful world..." The man inhaled deeply as if to commit the entire world’s scent to his memory. "No psychics, no origin power, no potential energy... only the power of dreams... so dense! So strong!!"

A black figure flashed into existence behind the man.

"This is the perfect world created for us!" the shadow exclaimed in near awe. "Lord Griffin, I wonder if the others have been apprised? When do we start?"

The golden-moustached man was indeed the Griffin incarnation that had entered Elisa’s Gate.

"I have already notified the others. If things are set, this city will be our first conquest. The experts I’ve brought have detected that this world’s Energy Stone Mines are quite scarce, but if we can fully conquer it, this will be our territory, our own separate space... and even though scarce, it will be enough for those of us in gold."

Hiss, hiss...

Several sounds appeared behind Griffin.

The snake woman, in a gray and white robe, leaned on a staff taller than her head. At the top of the staff were two crimson snake eyes. She resembled an ancient witch concocting spells, eerie and mysterious. Her face was like rotting wood, covered with dense wrinkles and age spots.

The Night King and Logan remained the same as before, one with a gentle smile in a black suit, the other a dignified, disheveled old man.

Hiss!

The last golden shadow instantly emerged on the rooftop.

Enshrouded in a golden fog, a tall and handsome man stepped out, and a golden pattern faintly shimmered on his forehead.

"If there are no objections, then let’s begin," Griffin said, looking directly at the last handsome man to appear. "You don’t have any objections, right, Lord Yan Fei?"

"Of course."

This man was Lin Fei’s alter ego after entering Elisa’s Gate.

"Everybody, form the array!"

Griffin raised one hand.

A circle of golden light suddenly flew out from his hand.

Hovering over everyone’s heads,

the golden circle slowly spun, interspersed with countless golden runes and symbols.

Five figures swiftly took their places, forming a circular array.

The golden light circled upward slowly, then gradually expanded, until it finally enveloped everyone above.

"Teleportation Array, activate!" Griffin gently sprinkled fine black powder. The powder in his hand drifted with the wind and instantly ignited into golden sparks.

Below the circle of light, Lin Fei and the other four took their respective places, each corresponding to one of the five nodes of the golden light array.

"Eye of Nora!" the snake woman cried out.

Hiss!!

The golden circle suddenly brightened. Centered on the five people, a golden column of light shot into the sky in an instant.

It pierced through the clouds, through the blue sky, as if reaching into the infinite expanse of outer space.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

In an instant, the world turned completely dark as countless clouds slowly gathered. Numerous shadows slowly enveloped the entire city from above, with continuous peals of lightning and thunder.

The golden column of light connected heaven and earth. Naturally, the city below didn’t go unnoticed.

Countless vehicles braked swiftly, stopping on the road, with some drivers hastily getting out of their cars to look up at the sky.

Some residents living in high-rise buildings were also walking out of their homes, looking up at the sky at the golden column of light.

Moments later, the sound of police sirens approached quickly from afar.

In the distant sky, helicopters lifted off from the tops of some buildings, quickly approaching from all directions. The continuous whirring of their rotors could be heard, but the pilots inside were also staring blankly at the golden column of light.

Inside one of the helicopters,

a blond man turned pale.

"Damn it! It’s those people again!! Quick, notify headquarters!!"

The two black men behind him also quickly recovered. One hastily took out a phone to make a call, while the other began tapping away on a tablet, calculating something.

"Oh my God..." The black man had just turned on the computer when he saw the exaggerated data displayed; smooth curves that normally were stable, now undulated wildly like waves, changing dramatically.

"Who the hell are these people!!??" the black man murmured. "Are they even human?!"

The radio waves had just been emitted when they were interfered with by powerful energy radiation, failing to transmit at all.

"Damn! Can’t get through on the phone!!"

The helicopter continued to circle in the sky.

"The control panel’s down!! The magnetic field’s too strong!!" the pilot roared in terror. "Bail out!!"

Boom!!

The helicopter suddenly exploded, turning into a ball of orange flames that crashed into the middle of a building. A scream from the crowd below immediately followed.

On the streets below,

Annis stared open-mouthed at the sky.

Beside the golden column of light, the figure of a familiar man appeared before her eyes. It was the man she had just met.

"It can’t be real..." she murmured softly. She knew she might never forget the scene before her eyes. The golden beam piercing the sky, like a key, was opening a door to hell...

In the sky pierced by the golden column, a huge black hole slowly emerged.

The clouds parted on their own, and the massive black vortex turned slowly like a whirlpool.(To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to Qidian (qidian.com) to cast your recommendation votes and Monthly Tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
