Chapter 442: Chapter 406 Capture Part 1

Ping City Outskirts

Ten plus kilometers away from the urban area, within a dense forest.

The green sea of trees burst into waves of rustling sounds with the breeze from time to time.

On a slope among the forest,

three men in white military uniforms stood quietly. Their uniforms did not belong to any country’s armed forces in the world; they had no national military emblems, just a small golden insignia on the right chest. They looked simple yet impressive.

The man at the lead was a middle-aged male with wrinkles beginning to show on his forehead.

The man’s gaze rested quietly on the forest opposite as if he was waiting for something.

"Not here yet?" he suddenly asked in a soft voice.

One of the soldiers behind him lifted his wrist to check his watch.

"Three more minutes. They should be arriving soon."

"Hmm."

The middle-aged man was about to continue speaking.

When suddenly, faint footsteps came from the forest opposite.

He looked up to see two blurred figures in the forest opposite, rapidly approaching.

The two figures, one tall and one short with the shorter one, a woman in white, walking in front. This woman had a cold face and sharp eyes, giving off an indescribable sense of severity.

On the contrary, the well-built tall man behind her appeared rather common when juxtaposed with her.

The two quickly reached where the three men stood.

"Did you bring the item?" The woman spoke with a tone that carried a faint chill—not specifically for the other party, more like it was her usual way of speaking, out of habit.

The middle-aged man nodded.

"Brought it. Have a look for yourself."

A white-uniformed officer stepped forward, holding a palm-sized black triangular box. The box had vine-like twisted patterns around it and was engraved with several symbols or patterns that resembled statues.

It had an air of mysterious and ancient charm.

The woman took the small box, her fingertips lightly grazing the edge of the box which popped open with a snap.

A faint red glow shone on the woman’s face.

She nodded and closed the box.

"This is it, then I shall take my leave."

The middle-aged man also nodded.

"My task is completed, farewell." He immediately turned, leading his two companions as they briskly walked into the forest, soon disappearing into the depths of the woods.

The woman in white carefully put away the box, and glanced at the man beside her.

"Stay on guard, we’re heading back to the branch office immediately."

"Yes."

The two disappeared into the forest as swiftly as they came, vanishing among the trees.

Ping City’s West

On a piece of undeveloped wasteland,

a white several-story building quietly stood amongst a field of yellow construction soil.

The building was as wide as a gymnasium, covering a large area in an arch shape.

All around it were half-finished construction sites with the bare earth showing.

This was originally designated by the municipal government as a new development zone. Regrettably, due to an accident that led to insufficient funding, the entire project was shelved, resulting in the region remaining in a half-developed state.

And this building was the only fully constructed one among them.

It was initially intended to be used as a city gymnasium.

But at some point, a sign stating ’Private property, no trespassing’ was clearly erected in front of the building.

However, since this location was quite distant from the city center, and with fewer than a dozen vehicles passing by a day and even fewer pedestrians, the occupation of such a large tract of land by private interests hardly drew any attention.

At this moment, a black sedan slowly stopped in front of the building.

A beautiful woman in white alighted from the car. With a composed expression, she briskly walked to the guardhouse, had her identity confirmed, and then headed directly to the central entrance of the building.

Once inside the building, the place was empty. She immediately went up the elevator.

It wasn’t until she reached the fifth floor that the elevator came to a halt.

The woman in white stepped out of the elevator and was faced with another black metal electronic door. Apart from this door, the entire fifth floor had no other objects, just this one door.

Clearly, the whole fifth floor had been radically transformed into a single room.

"I am Xu Ruoruo, open the door," said the woman in a cold voice.

Beep!

The black door emitted a series of electronic beeps and then slowly opened automatically, revealing the scene inside.

The entire fifth floor was directly merged into one large hall.

Spacious and silent.

Pillars of white columns were scattered about, serving as supports between floors. There were no other decorations.

The hall had no openable windows—just floor-to-ceiling windows, all fitted with one-way glass that allowed viewing from the inside out but not the reverse.

Xu Ruoruo walked in confidently.

The black door closed slowly behind her, followed by another beep as it shut.

In the middle of the hall, sat a good-looking young man on an armchair, quietly with his hands resting on the armrests, seemingly admiring the scenery outside the floor-to-ceiling window.

The soft sunlight sprawled onto the floor beside him, creating an illusion of tranquility.

Behind the young man stood two burly men resembling bodyguards. Both of them subtly exuded a sense of danger and were obviously not to be trifucked with.

"You’ve arrived, Ruoruo," the handsome young man said softly, "Did you bring the item?"

"Yes. I have it. It was personally delivered by someone from ’Metal’." Xu Ruoruo carefully took out the small box from the inner pocket of her jacket. She stepped forward and handed over the triangular black box to him.
