Trials of the Abyss
Chapter 686: Revenge

Chapter 686: Revenge

"Interesting." Yang Luo casually swung her spidery legs in the bizarre mist, spreading her corrosive aura out in rippling waves. "He actually noticed me, huh!"

Yang Luo's eyes gleamed mockingly, with a coldness that spoke of a disregard for life.

Seeing Pang Jian abandon the Frost Crystal God and lock onto her with his divine sense, she no longer bothered to conceal her presence.

She wanted to see whether Pang Jian had truly achieved a breakthrough in strength after killing You Kui.

The last time they met in the bizarre mist, Pang Jian's combat prowess had been pitiful, and Yang Luo had found the encounter boring.

Despite suffering a crushing defeat, Pang Jian still dared to come charging at her. This piqued her interest.

"Han Yi," Yang Luo muttered, still convinced that the Frost Crystal God was secretly involved with Pang Jian. After all, the joy in Han Yi's eyes when she saw him was too obvious to hide.

Pang Jian, on the other hand, appeared to have a heart of steel. He had bombarded Han Yi with lightning on sight, leaving Yang Luo uncertain about their relationship.

Is Han Yi acting on unrequited feelings? How did she and Pang Jian even cross paths?

The Frost Crystal God is known throughout the starry skies for her aloof nature and ruthless methods. Why would someone like her develop feelings for a True God of the human race? Why would her emotions become so turbulent over him?

Curiosity stirred within Yang Luo's heart.

She then recalled the esteemed Sovereign's attachment to Pang Jian prior to awakening her true divine nature in the Abyss.

What a pity. It would've been more entertaining if Lord Sovereign hadn't awakened yet.

Yang Luo casually tossed a Scene Imprint Stone into the bizarre mist behind her, intending to record Pang Jian's death. This would serve as undeniable proof to intimidate others.

Pang Jian had single-handedly killed You Kui. Thus, if Yang Luo managed to kill Pang Jian, that would prove that her strength far surpassed You Kui's.

There were many powerful Outer Gods under that Sovereign's command. Yang Luo had to continuously prove her strength and value to claw her way up the ranks.

Only by doing so could she hope to gain the Sovereign's favor and secure a greater share of resources when granted an audience.

Yang Luo was only a mid-ranking God, but she aspired to ascend as a high-ranking God, and that Sovereign had the power to make that dream a reality.

Ever since fate had granted her the favor of that Sovereign in the Abyss, Yang Luo had been completely devoted, yearning to attract even more of the Sovereign's attention.

Zi Mo's and He Motian's schemes in the shadows and attempts to sabotage the Sovereign's grand plans had greatly displeased her.

Yang Luo needed to expand her influence, establish a reputation of overwhelming strength, and find a way to undermine the authority of the Ghost Race and the Demon Races.

Killing Pang Jian was the perfect way to accomplish this.

"We meet again," Pang Jian said as he came to a quiet halt.

His gaze lingered on Yang Luo's flawless face before shifting to her razor-sharp spider legs. "Last time in the bizarre mist, you gravely wounded me. I've come back to settle the score."

The memory of the Abrasion Divine Eye piercing his chest and leaving his organs exposed was still vividly clear in Pang Jian's mind. Every time he recalled that fight, a surge of frustration welled up in his heart.

Pang Jian had long yearned for this second battle with Yang Luo, and he had been preparing for it in secret for quite some time.

He had sought advice from Su Wanrou while outside the Sacred Soul Continent on how to counteract Yang Luo's ability to corrode all things and defend against invasive foreign powers.

With his strength having advanced by leaps and bounds since then, he was confident that he could reclaim his pride.

"I hope you won't run away halfway through this time," Yang Luo mocked.

Pang Jian gave it some serious thought and replied honestly, "If I have no chance of winning, I would still choose to run for my life."

Yang Luo was taken aback. "At least you're honest."

"I'm still young, and I'm sure you've seen my potential. As long as I can stay alive, I'll eventually be able to kill you," Pang Jian said calmly.

"You're right." Yang Luo's gaze turned cold. "I know the potential of the True Gods of your human race, which is why I won't let you escape this time."

As they spoke, her corrosive aura was already spreading outward. In the blink of an eye, she carved out a vacuum, wiping away the surrounding bizarre mist.

Enormous silver-white spiderwebs spread across the cleared space.

Yang Luo repeated her old tricks.

As she deftly maneuvered her spider legs, the enormous spiderwebs surrounding Pang Jian's Immortal Divine Soul started to close in on him, pulling him into her corrosive domain.

The spider silk coiled around Pang Jian's Immortal Divine Soul tightened and tugged with immense force.

At the same time, an invasive power capable of corrupting all life seeped from the spiderwebs, and hair-thin threads of eerie white light drilled toward Pang Jian's flesh.

"It's the same old tricks again," Pang Jian sneered with a shake of his head.

Solid ice surrounded his body in a flash. Thick layers of frost and glacial rock formed over his limbs, radiating an intense chill.

With a thought, his Immortal Divine Soul shrank, slipping out from the ice blocks as he returned to his normal form.

The roar of thunder echoed as lightning erupted, destroying many of the spiderwebs and spider silk.

"It doesn't matter if they're old tricks or not, as long as they work." Yang Luo pursed her thin lips, ignoring Pang Jian's taunts. "The divine artifact of the Duke of Thunder could restrain You Kui because he's a God of the Ghost Race and naturally specialized in soul-related techniques.

"But I'm different. My body isn't afraid of lightning, nor do I rely on soul-related techniques to kill my enemies. Your Thunder Pool cannot constrain my Heavenly Dao.

"Pang Jian, you'll be the stepping stone that cements my reputation. I was truly delighted when I heard that you killed You Kui."

Divine power gathered in Yang Luo's eyes as her Abrasion Divine Eye reappeared, once again locking onto Pang Jian's chest.

Yang Luo had previously eroded Pang Jian's Immortal Divine Soul using this same Abrasion Divine Eye, leaving a gaping wound in his chest that exposed his internal organs.

Wherever Yang Luo's Abrasion Divine Eye gazed, an eerie starry river would emerge from Pang Jian, with chilling yin energy gently flowing between the stars.

The souls of the unicorn, the Water Serpent, the Vermilion Bird, as well as several Great Feys, Fey Kings, and Thunder Race warriors from the Thunder Abyss surfaced within the streams.

This was You Kui's divine technique, Ghost River.

Before leaving the Thunder Abyss, Pang Jian helped Lei Fan quell the Fey Race's rebellion and had collected many souls from the carnage of those brutal battlefields.

Refining these souls had allowed him to form his own Ghost River.

After the Ghost River manifested, Pang Jian infused it with the combined Dao of Water from Meng Wa, Shui Yuan, and the Naga.

You Kui had no mastery over water, and his Ghost River lacked the element's transformative nature. As a result, You Kui's Ghost River was far less mystical than the one Pang Jian formed.

When the profound insights of the three Water Gods fused with his Ghost River, it underwent a qualitative transformation, becoming more wondrous and enigmatic than before.

The souls of the inhabitants of the Thunder Abyss flickered in and out of sight of Ghost River's current, drawing Yang Luo's attention.

Yang Luo's unstoppable Abrasion Divine Eye locked onto Ghost River, ensnaring her soul!

A second soul-related divine technique from You Kui was abruptly awakened from within Ghost River.

"Soul Extraction!" Pang Jian shouted in a low voice.

A sinister force capable of enveloping and twisting the soul surged from Ghost River.

Yang Luo's Abrasion Divine Eye corroded the souls of the Great Feys, Fey Kings, Fey Gods, and the Thunder Race warriors within Ghost River. Unfortunately for her, these spectral entities had always been intended as nothing more than sacrificial pawns.

These souls and spectral entities were simply meant to exhaust Yang Luo's Abrasion Divine Eye, allowing Pang Jian the opportunity to unleash Soul Extraction!

Yang Luo's divine soul was wrenched from her Divine Persona, and in the process of being dragged out of her body.

As Soul Extraction dragged her divine soul out, another technique, Soul Restraint, was unleashed with sinister force.

The character for "seal" briefly flashed on Yang Luo's divine soul.

All the spiderwebs spreading across her divine domain and entangling Pang Jian's Immortal Divine Soul were completely severed from her mental control.

At the same time, Soul Extraction finally wrenched her divine soul from the center of her exquisitely arched brows.

The divine soul that emerged did not have Yang Luo's typical spider body, bearing the four limbs and head expected of an ordinary intelligent race.

A blazing lightning sphere crashed down with a deafening roar.

The lightning blasted her divine soul into pieces!

Yang Luo let out a muffled groan as blood gushed from her mouth, nose, and eyes.

As long as her divine soul remained protected within her physical body, Pang Jian's lightning could never inflict grievous damage.

Yang Luo's earlier claims had not been wrong. She was neither a God of the Ghost Race nor the Demon Race and had no innate fear of lightning. However, that was only true as long as her divine soul remained safely within her body.

"Using the soul-related divine techniques of the Ghost Race in tandem with lightning is quite an effective combination." Pang Jian flashed a radiant smile, his satisfaction evident. "As long as I can draw the opponent's soul from their body, death becomes inevitable.

"Yang Luo, now that your divine soul is out, there is only one outcome for you: Death."

Bolts of lightning descended, striking Yang Luo's divine soul and reducing it to wisps of smoke. The mid-ranking God was nearly obliterated on the spot.

The only reason her divine soul did not immediately dissipate was because her Divine Persona was still intact and holding onto a fragment of her soul essence.

Although her divine soul was forced out of her body, the soul essence within her Divine Persona was only drained by eighty to ninety percent.

Roughly ten to twenty percent of her soul essence remained firmly bound to her Divine Persona, beyond the reach of Pang Jian's Soul Extraction.

"She won't die if her Divine Persona isn't shattered," Han Yi's voice echoed, divine platform whistling as it descended.

The Frost Crystal God wove chains of frost through the crackling lightning and shot them toward the back of Yang Luo's head.

The chains penetrated Yang Luo's undefended skull, piercing straight into her sea of consciousness.

Yang Luo's Divine Persona was entangled, frozen, and then shattered.

With that, she met her end.
