Trials of the Abyss -
Chapter 675: Descend!
Chapter 675: Descend!
In the Sixth World, deep within Pang Jian's sea of consciousness, nine motes of flame flickered beside his Divine Persona.
A total of thirty-six such flames were scattered throughout his dantian, meridians, internal organs, and flesh.
Of these thirty-six, no fewer than nine were in his sea of consciousness alone.
These nine motes of flame severed his connection with the Bee Sovereign, the black turtle, Pang Ling, and the Black Dragon King. Even his connection to his Immortal Divine Soul in the Thunder Abyss was almost completely cut off.
If not for his Divine Persona, he would have lost all five senses in addition to being unable to move.
Nine motes of flame, shaped like miniature fiery worlds...
Pang Jian used his divine sense to probe these nine flames, even summoning lightning, cold energy, stellar energy, solar energy, and lunar energy to erase them.
All his attempts failed.
Any power drawn from his own body was instantly ignited and reduced to ashes upon contact with those motes of flame.
He even infused his insights into the Thunder of Duke's Dao of Lightning within the summoned lightning bolts, blending in the Duke of Thunder's fanatical ambition to annihilate the Gods of the Ghost and Demon Races.
However, even the Duke of Thunder's Dao of Lightning failed to dispel Yan Lie's terrifying divine technique.
Is it because it isn't my pursued Dao?
The Duke of Thunder's Dao of Lightning fails, but perhaps the Dao of Demon will fare better.
I can use the Primeval Demon Fusion Art!
Endless waves of blood-red light and crimson clouds surged from one of the fragmented lands of murky energy within his dantian.
A colossal furnace, forged from magma, radiated a mighty aura as it slowly rotated on the fragmented land.
This furnace could melt down all things under the heavens and transform them into a power Pang Jian could wield.
The Primeval Demon Fusion Art was the ultimate sacred art of the Dao of Demon. The Primordial Demon had created it after gathering the insights of countless Demon Gods and Great Demon Gods.
It rarely failed Pang Jian.
The fragmented land rumbled without pause as the furnace roared to life. Crimson lightning bolts crackled across its surface, each embodying the Dao of Fire.
A vivid Flame Dragon coiled around the furnace, its head thrown back in a silent roar.
The lingering will of the ancient Fey Emperor, Long Hui, had been drawn into the Primeval Demon Fusion Art and took shape on the furnace.
Above the fragmented land, greenish-black demonic clouds loomed, pouring down streams of demonic energy like a waterfall.
This demonic energy became kindling for the seething furnace below, fueling its blaze and causing crimson lightning to erupt violently from its surface.
The furnace rose from the fragmented land, as if the wills of the ancient Demon Gods and Flame Dragon Long Hui were propelling it through Pang Jian's dantian.
A mote of flame in Pang Jian's dantian was violently pulled toward the furnace and devoured.
The blazing furnace seemed to have incinerated the fiery world within the flame.
A wave of relief washed over Pang Jian.
The Primeval Demon Fusion Art works best after all!
He had found the key to breaking Yan Lie's divine technique. Focusing his will, he guided the Primeval Demon Fusion Art, tracking down and erasing the scattered motes of flame throughout his body.
One after another, the motes of flame vanished in flashes of searing brilliance.
A flood of insights into the Dao of Fire and fragments of Yan Lie's divine technique flowed into the fragmented land that birthed the furnace like glowing streams of knowledge.
The Primeval Demon Fusion Art unraveled portions of Yan Lie's Dao, transmuting them into Dao Seals that Pang Jian could now comprehend and study.
After a while, Pang Jian successfully reestablished his connection with the outside world. Through the eyes of the Black Dragon King, he saw the True Gods had since assembled in the Fifth World above!
What an overwhelming display of power from Zhu Ji!
Zhu Ji hovered above the Fire God's divine domain, mobilizing all the murky energy of the Fifth World against Yan Lie. Even without summoning his Dharma Idol, Zhu Ji managed to suppress Yan Lie, preventing the Fire God from intervening in the other fights.
Li Zhaotian, Yin Ji, Jiang Fan, and the others surrounded Ah Man, Jing Sha, Lie Yang, and Sha Jia in the skies of the Fifth World. Despite this, the True Gods did not attack and instead frequently glanced downward with wary expressions.
The Black Dragon King had just broken free from the blazing meteors when Qi Xu came streaking through the air toward Pang Jian.
The light in her eyes dimmed upon arrival.
She had finally arrived only to realize she could no longer sense any trace of Yan Lie's aura.
Pang Jian's lips curled into a faint smile as he gazed at her with clear eyes. There was no hint of him being under another's control.
"Worried about something?" Pang Jian said with a smile.
The runes Pang Jian left in Qi Xu's sea of consciousness still hovered near her ethereal soul.
He had left Qi Xu in the Sixth World, hoping to use her to track down the Primordial Demon and Luo Hongyan.
Before Yan Lie sealed off his five senses with his terrifying techniques, Qi Xu had been Pang Jian's eyes in the Sixth World.
Qi Xu had been temporarily freed due to Yan Lie's technique restraining Pang Jian, but with the restriction lifted, his control over her returned once more.
"I sensed that you came back and was a little curious, so I came to take a look," Qi Xu said with a forced smile.
Pang Jian had undone a restriction that Yan Lie himself had placed. This knowledge only deepened the fear in her heart. Her hopes were shattered.
All she felt now was fear and an overwhelming desire to stay far away from Pang Jian.
"Since you're so curious, perhaps you can help me scout the Seventh World," Pang Jian said with a serious expression.
Qi Xu's expression changed drastically. "No! I'm not the least bit curious about the Seventh World!"
"But I am."
The runes encircling Qi Xu's ethereal soul released a power that altered her thoughts, causing her to sink downward against her will.
Luo Hongyan and the Primordial Demon had not shown themselves in the Sixth World.
His master and the others were uneasy, and Pang Jian also felt a growing restlessness. More than anything, he wanted to know where the two were hiding.
Pang Jian could not find them in the Sixth World, meaning they were likely in the Seventh World. So, he decided to use Qi Xu as his eyes to explore the Seventh World as well.
At the same time, Yan Lie let out a loud cry in the Fifth World, delivering a decree to the foreign race powerhouses.
Ah Man's single eye was filled with utter disbelief as he stared at the Fire God in stunned silence.
Yan Lie gave a heavy nod and commanded, "Descend."
Lie Yang was the first to respond. His body, still wrapped within the Primordial Sun Diagram, abruptly sank downward.
The Patriarch of the Radiant Race had become obedient to Yan Lie since being bestowed the Divine Sun Scripture.
Seeing this, Ah Man no longer hesitated, and he too sank into the darkness below with Sha Jia on his shoulder.
Jing Sha followed after them.
Only after all the Rank Ten foreign race powerhouses descended into the Sixth World did Yan Lie withdraw his divine domain. Casting a long look at Zhu Ji, he transformed into a stream of flame and shot downward as well.
In the blink of an eye, Yan Lie and the foreign race powerhouses disappeared from the Fifth World.
The True Gods were left at a loss.
Zhu Ji hovered in the sky, bewildered, his body wreathed in dense murky energy, with nowhere to direct it without an opponent.
He turned to Gui Mu in confusion.
She still maintained her Dharma Idol, standing with the Pool of Reincarnation hovering behind her.
"We'll need Li Wang to explain this," she said after a moment of thought, unable to make out Yan Lie's intentions either.
"It's actually quite simple," said Wanderer Tian Du with a relaxed smile. "The rest of them were no match for us, with Zhu Ji suppressing Yan Lie.
"That Sovereign and the Primordial Demon did not appear, so realizing they had no chance of victory, Yan Lie chose to retreat.
"We're already in the Fifth World. Where else could they go? The only place left is the Sixth World."
Wanderer Tian Du seemed to convince himself with every word he spoke.
"Pang Jian managed to leave the Sixth World. That gave them hope that the world below isn't truly a dead end."
"Pang Jian is still in the Sixth World!" Li Zhaotian exclaimed.
"They're not going to descend and kill Pang Jian, are they?" Yin Ji wondered anxiously.
"He's fine," a voice unfamiliar to the True Gods echoed from within a dense pocket of darkness. It was the Black Dragon King. "He's already broken free from Yan Lie's restraint and can move freely in the Sixth World.
"The Sixth World is vast. Those foreign race powerhouses likely won't be able to track him down, even with that Fire God among them."
A beam of starlight suddenly descended from above.
Li Wang had returned after recovering some of his strength in the Third World. Looking around, he quickly surmised what had transpired.
Seeing Zhu Ji unharmed, he smiled and said, "I figured even Yan Lie wouldn't be able to gain the upper hand with you around."
Zhu Ji nodded silently.
"Yan Lie had to have discovered something. Why else would he bring Sha Jia and the others into the Sixth World with him?" Li Wang frowned. "If they can't find a way out of the Sixth World, then this war is more or less over.
"Still, I suggest we hold our ground here in the Fifth World for now, and observe what unfolds."
After some thought, Li Wang glanced at the darkness.
"Can you still communicate with Pang Jian?" he asked.
"I can," replied the Black Dragon King.
"Tell Pang Jian to be careful," Li Wang said, his tone heavy. "Avoid direct conflict with them in the lower world. Have him stay alert and try to uncover the real reason behind their descent.
"This doesn't sit well with me. I suspect this is far from as simple as it looks. Something is going on that we don't yet understand." Li Wang sighed.
"Black Dragon," Li Zhaotian called. "Tell Pang Jian to leave the Sixth World if he can. It's too dangerous down there alone. Tell him to avoid contact with Yan Lie and the others at all costs!"
Unlike Li Wang, Li Zhaotian placed more weight on Pang Jian's survival. He would rather Pang Jian never uncover the truth if it meant keeping him safe.
"Of course, he should only investigate if his safety is guaranteed," Li Wang added with an awkward cough.
