Trials of the Abyss -
Chapter 659: The Death of Pan Di
Chapter 659: The Death of Pan Di
Pang Jian readily accepted the offer.
After all, the five Rank Ten powerhouses of the Thunder Abyss did not pose much of a threat to him.
Having tested the strength of the two Thunder Race warriors, he felt confident that he could hold his ground with the Thunder Pool, Five Thunder Annihilation, and Ghostflare.
Although his Immortal Divine Soul could not overpower all five together, if it truly came to that, he could always leave the Thunder Abyss with little difficulty.
Especially now, with his physical body on the verge of becoming a mid-ranking God.
With the Gate of the Abyss at his disposal, his physical body could instantly appear to help his Immortal Divine Soul once its transformation was complete.
Pang Jian's confidence had soared after killing You Kui. Even most mid-ranking Gods no longer fazed him.
These powerhouses had not even left the Thunder Abyss and barely qualified as low-ranking Gods. There was no reason for him to fear them.
Pang Jian strode confidently out of the bizarre mist with the five Thunder Abyss powerhouses accompanying him.
A luminous full moon hung in the starry skies beyond the Thunder Abyss.
As he gazed up at the moon, his vision pierced through the barrier of the Thunder Abyss, allowing him to catch a vague glimpse of Ying Yue's Lunar Divine Palace.
The Thunder Abyss was much brighter than the Shadow Abyss due to the ever-present moonlight.
"Here in the Thunder Abyss, we can always see the moon and the stars, but never the sun," the unicorn explained.
Pang Jian pondered its words. "Like the Shadow Abyss, your Thunder Abyss exists in a state of complete stillness."
"There are abysses that move?" the colossal Water Serpent asked in surprise.
"The Abyss constantly shifts within the bizarre mist, allowing it to cycle between seeing the sun, moon, and stars," Pang Jian replied. "It has both day and night."
The Water Serpent's eyes gleamed with longing. "That sounds like a place worth yearning for."
"Only a world as wondrous as that could produce outliers like the human race—beings capable of rising to the heavens and birthing legends across the starry skies," the unicorn mused.
Clearly, they had all heard the legends of the human race.
As they conversed, Pang Jian observed the landmasses beneath him, taking in the omnipresent lightning and the layered structure of the Thunder Abyss.
The Thunder Abyss consisted of three layers.
The third layer held nine continents; the second had six; and the first contained only three.
The size of these continents was comparable to that of the Abyss, with fragmented lands in between.
Colorful lightning crackled through the skies, leaping between the continents and scattered fragmented lands. It was a chaotic force that even the inhabitants feared and avoided.
For most living beings, lightning was a form of disaster.
As Pang Jian spread his divine sense and questioned the Rank Ten powerhouses beside him, he soon learned that protective arrays and barriers were erected over cities and nations to shield against the lightning.
This untamed lightning surged across every corner of the Thunder Abyss, some harmless and others terrifying beyond measure. The five Thunder Abyss powerhouses beside him had lost many comrades to the chaotic lightning that surged through this world.
They had suffered many lightning strikes and endured immense hardship before ascending to Rank Ten. Even now, some of the lightning within the Thunder Abyss could still severely wound or even annihilate them.
"I'm going to take a look at the lower depths of the Thunder Abyss," Pang Jian declared before diving downward.
"Be careful! Even the lowest depths of the Thunder Abyss have fearsome lightning!" the unicorn warned.
"Got it."
Pang Jian's Immortal Divine Soul summoned a protective shield.
Bolts of multicolored lightning streaked toward him as he descended toward the lowest layer of the Thunder Abyss. Sometimes he even crashed headfirst into them. Most of the lightning, however, was just a mere tickle to him, incapable of causing any harm.
The Thunder Pool and Five Thunder Annihilation even absorbed a portion of the lightning along the way.
Pang Jian continued his descent.
Unlike the Abyss, the lowest depths of the Thunder Abyss were not engulfed in endless darkness, nor did they contain corrupting murky energy.
The Thunder Abyss had a remarkably balanced distribution of energy, comprising the five elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, as well as lightning, cold energy, stellar energy, and lunar energy.
There was no neutral, formless spiritual qi, nor any impure, corrosive murky energy like in the Abyss.
It felt more like a brilliant celestial kingdom in the depths of the starry skies.
A thunderous boom erupted as bolts of lightning came crashing down.
Sensing that these bolts of lightning posed a slight threat, Pang Jian raised the Thunder Pool, attempting to absorb them with the silver-white palace within.
The Duke of Thunder's Dao Seals shimmered to life, releasing the aura of a supreme Thunder God's Dao.
The same terrifying lightning that had unsettled the unicorn and the Vermilion Bird was drawn into the Thunder Pool, tamed, and obediently absorbed into the palace within.
Pang Jian smiled and dismissed his protective shield.
As long as he held the Duke of Thunder's Thunder Pool, it seemed he could roam the Thunder Abyss without restraint.
The two Rank Ten Thunder Race warriors and the three Rank Ten Fey Gods had all feared the chaotic lightning, but to the Duke of Thunder's Thunder Pool, it was nothing more than raw energy to fuel its core power.
Not long after, Pang Jian reached the bottom of the Thunder Abyss.
Beneath the lowest layer lay more bizarre mist. As Pang Jian descended, flashes of lightning flickered and surged around him until, at last, he reached the boundary wall.
Pang Jian crossed the boundary wall with the Thunder Pool in hand.
Beyond it was the same bizarre mist he knew all too well.
It felt like home, with his divine sense able to move without restriction, capable of expanding further than before.
He instinctively scanned the surrounding area with his divine sense.
A colossal corpse suddenly appeared in his perception.
"Pan Di!"
The ancient beast he had bade farewell to outside the boundary wall of the Abyss now lay dead beneath the Thunder Abyss.
Thunder God Pan Di appeared just as he had when Pang Jian first encountered him. Only a pale-gray skeleton remained.
The crackling lightning within his empty eye sockets had vanished, and not a single trace of soul essence lingered.
He was undeniably dead.
For years, he had wandered alone in the bizarre mist, yearning to find the Thunder Abyss and discover the Duke of Thunder's divine artifact. The bizarre mist had eaten away at him, stripping away flesh, soul essence, and divine power.
However, Pan Di had persevered through it all. He had not perished.
Pang Jian had helped him regain his divine power and reconstruct his body, only for him to die beneath the Thunder Abyss.
This was no natural death.
A divine being far stronger than Pan Di had encountered him within the bizarre mist and had killed him.
Who could it be?
Pang Jian's divine sense surged through the bizarre mist, expanding outward from Pan Di's corpse.
Although he sensed nothing unusual, his instincts told him something was wrong.
Pan Di was not only a Thunder God but also a Fey God.
Even his skeleton held immense value.
So, why did his killer leave them behind? Pang Jian wondered. Is this a trap? Or did they simply plan to return for his remains later?
