Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Man and Male God
Yang Sheng tapped the table, "Of course, beer!"
Ji Rui glanced at Le Tong strangely, then at Yang Sheng, speaking lightly, "I’ve been too busy lately, better to drink less."
Yang Sheng was a bit taken aback, stared at Ji Rui in thought, wondering when Ji Rui turned into such a nagging, fussy person?
"Having some alcohol appropriately not only relieves stress but also aids sleep." Yang Sheng always finds a suitable reason for his actions.
"You’re talking about red wine, not beer!" Ji Rui corrected Yang Sheng.
Yang Sheng shrugged, "Then I’ll drink red wine!" With that, he got up and headed to the car, soon returned with a bottle of red wine from the trunk, "Bang" placed it on the table.
Le Tong glanced at the waiter serving a bright red spicy hot pot soup, then at the pricey bottle of red wine, feeling speechless.
"Miss, would you still like beer?" The waiter hadn’t received a definite answer earlier, so asked again now.
"Not for now." Le Tong saw Ji Rui and Yang Sheng seemed about to say something, hurriedly gave the waiter an answer to send her away.
"Senior, this red wine is enough for ten hot pot meals, right?" Hot pot is the main dish, the wine is just a garnish, it’s unsettling how the garnish costs more than the main dish.
Le Tong considered herself a yokel in front of successful returnees like Ji Rui and Yang Sheng, but she did understand, this wine should be enjoyed in a quiet Western restaurant under flickering candlelight while listening to violin music, not ruined at a roadside stall eating spicy hot pot!
"Who cares, this wine was a gift from the President! If it’s gone, I’ll just ask the President for more."
Ji Rui’s mouth twitched, seemingly wanting to say something, but merely cast a light glance at Yang Sheng without speaking.
The waiter pushed a layered cart full of hot pot ingredients that Le Tong ordered, the soup boiled, its rich aroma wafting through the air.
Yang Sheng eagerly dumped an entire plate of fatty beef in, "Tsk-tsk, junior sister, you know me well! Tell me, how did you know I’ve been dreaming about spicy hot pot abroad for so long?!"
Le Tong picked up a piece of fatty beef with chopsticks and placed it in Yang Sheng’s bowl, "I must be the worm in your stomach, is that it?!"
Yang Sheng smiled, leaning towards Le Tong, stared at her eyes, elbowing her, asked, "Tongtong, you know my tastes so well, are you secretly in love with me?"
Yang Sheng’s tone was ambiguous, his long, charming eyes winked at Le Tong, waves of charm washed over her.
Le Tong leaned back into her chair, discreetly increasing the distance between them, glanced towards Ji Rui, and smiled.
"Senior, by your logic, I also understand the President’s preferences, so am I secretly in love with the President too?"
Le Tong said this intending to deny Yang Sheng’s suggestion of her secret crush, without considering how these words might imply a different meaning to Ji Rui.
Ji Rui’s hand holding a fish slice paused slightly, his gaze shifted to Le Tong, but saw her turning away, now smiling at Yang Sheng.
Yang Sheng’s smiling eyes carried a mysterious depth, glanced at Le Tong, then at Ji Rui.
"Secretly in love with him? No way! Junior sister, you understand the President well because you earn his salary, naturally, you should know his preferences. When he’s pleased, he might offer you promotions and raises. But I’m different, I’m not your boss and have no direct stake with you, so why do you know me so well? What else could it be other than for me personally?"
Le Tong hadn’t expected her rejection of Yang Sheng’s secret love theory to spin into deeper mud by Yang Sheng’s cunning wordplay.
She couldn’t deny Yang Sheng’s analysis regarding Ji Rui was quite reasonable, her understanding of Ji Rui indeed stemmed from work needs. Being Ji Rui’s personal secretary is akin to being his right hand, without knowing his basic habits, how could they work harmoniously?
Although, she didn’t agree with the part about Yang Sheng.
Just as she considered saying something to refute Yang Sheng, Ji Rui spoke up.
"Yang Sheng, you’re quite confident! Why assume her understanding of me is not for me personally, but purely for promotions and raises?"
Le Tong almost spat out the tea she just drank, barely managing to hold back, resulting in a choking fit.
Yang Sheng patted Le Tong’s back while she bent over coughing, glanced slanted at Ji Rui.
"Because men like you are only to be admired from afar, not to be closely examined!"
Ji Rui raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?!"
Yang Sheng, seeing Le Tong catching her breath, poured himself a cup of wine, raised it for a toast with Ji Rui.
"President, you are the male idol in women’s eyes! Do you know what a god is? It’s worshipped on a shrine for admiration, not taken back to live with. You’re that kind of existence. Many adore you, even like you, but few dare to entertain disrespectful thoughts because you’re too high above, even if they fantasize, they only dare in their minds, truly few act. But I am the man truly reachable in women’s eyes, though it troubles me to admit, despite my excellence, I’m not in the same league as you."
Yang Sheng’s analysis was spot-on, Le Tong nearly wanted to cheer for him representing women.
Ji Rui held his composure without rushing to refute, but used his lengthy fingers to sip from his cup, lowering his gaze.
A simple action, yet sufficient to prove Yang Sheng’s words true.
Some people are born bearing noble qualities; even seated at a bustling open-air market stall, they emit elegance as if sitting in a top-tier hotel.
Clearly just a humble food stall, elevated by such a serene wine-sipping man to higher class.
Yang Sheng wasn’t wrong, men like him are to be admired from afar, not to be closely inspected!
Of course, Le Tong’s understanding of not to be closely inspected carries another meaning.
Standing too close, President Ji’s cold, suspicious, selfish nature couldn’t escape Le Tong’s eyes, hence she harbors no extra thoughts.
The male idol leisurely sipped wine, licked his lips until its aroma permeated his taste buds, then lightly glanced at Yang Sheng, "According to you, am I not quite pitiful?"
Yang Sheng took a sip of wine, "Do you care? Haven’t you long hoped women wouldn’t bother you?!"
Le Tong hadn’t expected a late-night snack to reveal so much gossip about President Ji.
