Chapter 37: Chapter 37 All Children are Angels
On a Saturday morning, Le Tong, who rarely needed to work overtime, was awake but reluctant to get out of bed. She stayed nestled under the covers until her phone emitted a "beep beep" sound.
That was the new email notification. Le Tong’s personal email didn’t have alerts, but her work email, responsibly managed by Little Secretary Le, did.
She reached out to the bedside table, found her phone, and brought it under the covers to open it.
The sender was indeed President Ji.
The email content was as follows:
Time: 3 PM to 5 PM
Location: My house
Work content: Necessary (Roast wings, curry fish balls), Others (freestyle with fridge ingredients)
Le Tong looked at the time; it was only a bit past 10, so she could laze around a bit longer before getting up.
At eleven o’clock, Le Tong got up on time, freshened up, tied her hair into a bun, and efficiently tidied up her small single-person apartment, taking just over ten minutes to clean the ten-square-meter space inside and out. After tidying up, Le Tong took a shower, then threw her newly changed bedding and clothes into the washing machine.
Le Tong’s lunch was usually very simple. Most of the time, she ate noodles, and today was no different.
She first softened the noodles with cold water, took a box of marinated chicken wings and eggs from the fridge, picked out two chicken wings and one egg, put them into the soup, then washed a few greens and threw them in too. In a few minutes, a bowl of aromatic marinated chicken wing noodles was placed on the coffee table.
Le Tong turned on the TV, eating her noodles while watching.
After a few commercials, the TV began airing the first version of the show "My Fair Princess." Le Tong, feeling a toothache, immediately picked up the remote to change the channel.
After pressing a few buttons, a familiar face suddenly appeared on the screen. Looking closely, wasn’t that President Ji?
It turned out to be a replay of an interview with the heads of the top hundred enterprises, which originally aired probably half a month ago?
Le Tong stared at the man on the screen, who looked no different from usual, for a few seconds, then pressed a button to switch to another channel.
In recent days, Ji Rui’s attitude towards her seemed to gradually revert to how it used to be. Though he was sparse with words, he no longer constantly probed her verbally or occasionally watched her with a wary eye.
This kind of Ji Rui made Le Tong feel much more at ease.
As for why Ji Rui wanted her to help with cooking at his home, Le Tong didn’t think much of it—her instincts told her that Ji Rui just wanted to make his adorable son happy.
At 2:50 PM, Le Tong rang the doorbell at Ji Rui’s house.
It wasn’t Ji Rui who answered the door but an unfamiliar middle-aged woman.
"Hello, Auntie, is Mr. Ji at home?" Le Tong politely asked the woman inside, who looked like a housekeeper, through the door.
"Mr. Ji is not at home, miss, who are you?" The woman was quite cautious and seemed not to have plans to let her in until she clarified Le Tong’s identity.
"I’m Le Tong, Mr. Ji’s secretary..."
Before Le Tong finished her words, she heard a "click" as the door opened, and the woman inside broke into a smile, interrupting her.
"Oh... Miss Le, is it? Mr. Ji had instructed me, please come in."
Le Tong entered the house and changed her shoes. This time, instead of heading straight to the kitchen, she walked to the living room first, taking off her bag, coat, scarf, gloves, and so on, and placing them on the sofa.
As she looked up, she noticed for the first time that an enlarged family photo was hanging on the once barren wall.
In the photo, Ji Rui was holding the hand of a handsome little boy, standing in front of a splashing waterfall. The striking resemblance in the boy’s features to Ji Rui was uncanny, as if they were cast from the same mold. The difference was that the little boy bore a supremely sweet smile on his face, a stark contrast to Ji Rui’s perpetually stoic expression.
The father and son were wearing the parent-child outfits bought on that day. This outfit made Ji Rui look at least ten years younger than usual—if it weren’t for the aura of aloofness in his gaze, someone might believe he was merely 23 or 24.
"Miss Le..." The auntie was standing behind her.
"Is this your young master at home?" Le Tong’s gaze lingered for a long time on Ji Baby’s face, not able to move away.
"Yes, in a bit the young master will be five; don’t let his cuteness fool you, when he acts naughty, he’s a real headache! The maids in the big house secretly call him Little Demon!"
The auntie probably recalled some mischievous antics of Ji Baby, sporting a look of trepidation.
Le Tong, staring at Ji Baby’s sweet smile, seemed to not quite agree with the auntie’s words, and her expression turned somewhat dreamy, "Auntie, you’re wrong, all children are angels..."
