Chapter 24: Chapter 24: He Doesn’t Deserve Her

Ji Rui’s gaze only returned to the newspaper after watching Le Tong’s figure slip into the kitchen. Judging from how she walks, her back injury should be almost healed.

Regarding Le Tong’s injury, the hotel inspected the entire water supply system the next day and confirmed that there were indeed issues with it, as there were similar risks in three other guest rooms. Ji Rui knew he had wrongly blamed Le Tong, but he had no intention of apologizing.

For someone like him who has always been high and mighty, the concept of actively apologizing doesn’t really exist in his mind.

Even though Le Tong had cleared her name in the hotel incident, Ji Rui’s vigilance towards her hadn’t decreased much.

So much so that even Ji Rui couldn’t understand why he blurted out and asked her to come over early in the morning to help.

This apartment is Ji Rui’s favorite residence, and he rarely lets outsiders come in. Even Zhuo Jiarui, a childhood buddy and friend, has only visited him here two or three times. The hired help are all hourly workers, ensuring his private space is not disturbed.

"President, what flavor do you want for the chicken wings? Barbecue? Or brined?"

Le Tong shouted from the kitchen, interrupting Ji Rui’s meditation.

Ji Rui tossed the newspaper aside and walked over to lean against the kitchen door.

"What flavor do kids usually like?"

If Ji Baby doesn’t surprise him by having the driver bring him over here, Ji Rui usually sees him once a week and has a meal with him. Ji Rui isn’t entirely sure about Ji Baby’s taste.

Le Tong held a glass dish filled with chicken wings in both hands, thought for a moment, then turned to ask Ji Rui, "Kids... usually like grilled wings. So grilled wings, huh?"

Ji Rui nodded, "You decide."

Since childhood, Ji Rui lived a life of a pampered young master, only knowing how to eat, not understanding the intricacies of cooking like grilling or brining. Moreover, he wasn’t very familiar with his darling son’s preferences, so asking him wouldn’t yield a definite answer.

Le Tong then decided on her own, adding soy sauce and other seasonings to marinate the chicken wings, setting them aside, and taking out fish balls, again turning to ask Ji Rui.

"Does the baby eat curry?"

That, Ji Rui did know, "Yes." Curry beef is one of Ji Baby’s favorite foods, and the menu at the mansion features curry beef every two days.

After that, Le Tong asked Ji Rui many similar questions, and Ji Rui’s answers were mostly, "You decide."

Previously, Ji Rui never entered the kitchen because he found the smell of cooking oil nauseating. But today, he stood at the doorway for several minutes without feeling any discomfort.

The coffee machine timer beeped, and Le Tong poured coffee and handed it to Ji Rui with a smile.

"President, you should go enjoy your coffee and read the newspaper. With you standing here, I get nervous and scared!"

Ji Rui stared at her smiling face, stunned. He realized she was unusually cheerful today, with a hint of mischievousness. Probably because this wasn’t a workplace setting, she felt more relaxed and at ease?

Ji Rui took the coffee and glanced at the pile of ingredients on the kitchen counter.

Le Tong laughed and gently nudged his arm, "Don’t worry, I roughly know the kid’s tastes."

Le Tong was so confidently assuring because she loved watching parenting shows. Luo Yuanyuan had denounced her peculiar hobby more than once, but she responded, "The soft-speaking, soft-bodied, chubby-cheeked little babies are adorable!"

Luo Yuanyuan thus concluded: An excess of maternal love, needing medication!

Ji Rui knew he had no say in the kitchen, and being gently pushed out by Le Tong realized that if he stayed, she probably would indeed feel uneasy. So he carried his coffee back to the living room to continue reading his newspaper.

His diligent and hard-working secretary thus added another skill to her list: culinary expertise.

Ji Rui happily enjoyed his coffee, suddenly thinking of Zhuo Jiarui. Could it be that Zhuo Jiarui, with his carefree attitude towards life, liked Le Tong because he was aware of her many merits?

Upon further reflection, Zhuo Jiarui, with his playboy nature, indeed couldn’t match his little secretary!

Although she seemed to have once schemed against him, Ji Rui, in the hotel that night, had considered firing her. But now, she appeared to have restrained herself and settled down.

Given this, for now, he would leave her be, watch her for a while longer, and then decide.
