Chapter 159: My back hurts a lot

I woke up, lying on my front and my back exposed.

I was topless but bandaged.

Immediately realizing that, my eyes shot open. Why was I topless?

I attempted to get up right away but felt my entire back sting like I had been picked with several needles.

"Hiss," I hissed, squinting my eyes. What was going on? It hurts so much. Why was my body bandaged like a half mummy?

I had completely forgotten what had happened before I fainted and then, as I wondered what could’ve been the reason why my back felt that way, I recalled the entire thing at the spa, most especially my spat with Seo-Jun.

He was such an annoying handsome human being. He even made me cry.

But I felt so much better after recalling that my little Min-Cheol had punched his face for me.

’I guess the reason I’m in bed like this right now is because of the burn on my back.’

But I thought they were taking me to the hospital, so why was I in my room?

"Jo-Pil?" I heard Ki-hoon’s voice and rolled my eyes to the direction he was in since I couldn’t move much. "How are you feeling?"

I couldn’t see his face properly. I wished he would come to my line of sight and speak but he was just standing there. It was as if he didn’t want me to see him.

Was he mad? Upset? We went out without him, not like it was a planned outing for all four of us but it just ended up that way, and not only that, I ended up getting this crazy burn on my back.

I’d say he had every reason to be mad.

Hmm, I’m suddenly feeling like an episode like this happened while I was unconscious.

The Episode***

"Jin, give me one good reason why I shouldn’t shut down your spa besides the fact that it makes good revenue." Ki-hoon asked, his eyes dark and his fingers interlocked as he dropped his hands on the table.

"You don’t need to look for a good reason ’not’ to shut it down." Min-Cheol said, equally having that dark expression on his face. "We already have a good reason to shut it down."

"As much as I’d like to disagree," Jin-Yeok added. "I can’t help but agree. I think this is a very good idea. Let’s shut down the spa because of what happened to Jo-Pil.

I waved off that idea.

It was so unreal, but at the same time, something they could all do if they wanted to.

Let’s hope it didn’t come to that. But I bet they would be taking extra care if I wanted to go out in the future after I was healed.

"My back hurts a lot." I said, answering the question he asked earlier.

"Sorry," he apologized.

He was acting weird.

"I should be the one apologizing." I said. "I was careless and caused all of you to worry."

"No, it’s not your fault." He said, a reaction I expected. "They should’ve put warning signs." He said and I almost laughed.

Why would they do that?

Everyone knows hot water comes from the hot water knob and cold water comes from the cold water knob. I was just careless, that’s all.

This probably wouldn’t happen to a normal person.

Then, was I abnormal?

Pft, who knows?

"I’d like to make you feel better but I don’t know how." He said and I could feel the sadness in his tone. "Seeing you like this, it hurts my heart."

Once again, I apologized.

"I’m sorry. I wanted to avoid something like this from happening. A situation where I would worry you so."

"You don’t have to keep apologizing. You didn’t do it on purpose. It was an accident." He said and I pursed my lips.

Would he let me at least see his face?

"Anyway, why does it hurt a lot and prevent me from moving? I only got burned, right?" I asked but he shook his head.

"Well, according to what they said. When they took you to the hospital, the doctor said it was really bad."

Yeah, I saw.

"An emergency treatment was carried out but..." He shut his eyes. "They said the skin that had been burnt couldn’t remain because it would hinder your healing process, and so they had to peel it off." As soon as he said that, chills ran down my spine.

They peeled my skin?

"Even in your fainted state and with enough anesthesia in your system, you still squirmed around, gasping for air because of how painful it was. I..." I imagined he was trembling because of how his words began to shake. "I wasn’t there but when I heard it, I felt my insides rip to pieces just imagining how much pain you went through."

Oh my, since I was unconscious, I don’t remember any of that but it must’ve been dreadful. Just thinking about how my back had no skin under those bandages was already giving me goosebumps.

"I wish I could’ve prevented something like that from happening."

Yeah, me too. This was shitty for me, most especially since it was my back that got skinned.

Why was I getting into one accident or another? Was this world fighting me, just like the other world did when it was trying to chase me out? But in it’s own way.

It must just be the will of the novel.

Since I wasn’t getting tortured or fucked like I was supposed to, the Novel’s will is upset.

Haha, at least that’s what I’d like to think but let’s not go there. Who said novels had such will and power?

I simply changed the plot a tiny little bit, ahem. Okay, so maybe a whole lot. I changed the plot a whole lot but it’s not my fault.

No one would want to walk through that original plot even if they were promised the world in return. No one in their right mind, at least.

Hmm, so I had something similar to surgery. Then why was I back so early?

"That was two days ago." He said and the word ’early’ crushed in my thoughts. "You suffered a fever afterward, but the doctors, including Cha Hyun-woo, did what they could to help you out of it. And today, you were brought back to the mansion."

Oh, I see.

"You won’t be able to move around a lot in your condition."

In other words, no more fun outings for a while. Got it.

"You just need to ring that bell whenever you need to get up from the bed and the maids will come assist you." He said, pointing at the bell that was placed on my lamp table.

It was about time they added this special function.

I’ve really done it this time. I was feeling like a burden but let’s flush that thought out for now.

If they don’t see me as a burden then it was fine. I wasn’t a burden. I was just a little unfortunate and got into an accident while trying to bathe on my own.

But I guess now I can’t keep the promise I made to Min-Cheol to let him teach me one sport every Sunday.

’He’s a reasonable kid. He’ll understand.’ I thought and opened my eyes.

Right now, I should think of how to buy time in my condition since I couldn’t even turn over without my back hurting.

"Then, Hyung, can you... Read me a book while I’m like this?" I asked and he paused for a moment before smiling and said,

"Sure. What book would you like me to read you?"
