Chapter 91: Good for bad
As soon as they left that room, they headed straight back to Mei-Mei’s room where Chi Lian proceeded to vomit and cry briefly in the bathroom.
Muyang dismissed the nanny and gave her some privacy.
"Chi-Chi, are you okay?" Muyang hesitantly asked after she left the bathroom.
She hugged him and took a few deep breaths. "I have never done anything like that in my life, deliberately harming another human being. In a war, you are forced to kill or you will be killed. But as long as you are on the right side, you do it because you know you are protecting others.
This," she hesitated for a moment. "This today," she continued, "It was personal and up close. I didn’t even hesitate because I am afraid she may have another chance to harm our child. I should not be feeling guilty for what I have done because it was necessary. So why do I feel bad? Why do I feel sorry for her even after what she did ?"
"Because you are a good person. The kind who ignores grudges and gives second chances." He said as he rubbed her back. "But you should know that not everyone is worth saving or granting a second chance. Some people are rotten to their very core. They simply cannot and refuse to change or be saved.
Do you now what she said when my men were torturing her? She said that her greatest regret is that Mei-Mei did not die. Such a person, you don’t need to feel sorry for. "
Just like that, his words erased most of the guilty feelings she was having.
"Host, host turn on the television, quickly." T4 shouted in her mind.
"Huh." She turned on the television and saw the news. Apparently the Chu family had gone as far as bringing reporters to the hospital to witness the madness of their daughter.
They had probably told her to act crazy and got a doctor to collaborate their fraud. Unfortunately, when they got to the scene, their daughter was actually really crazy.
Now they were running around asking the doctor to save their daughter because she was not crazy and the reporters were confused. Was she crazy or not?
"Hahahaaa...oh this is so funny." T4 was wiping non existent tears from his eyes with his paws.
"Why are you so happy?"
"I like seeing bad guys losing." he said and went back to laughing. "By the way host, you took the syringe out of thin air, why hasn’t valuable specimen Muyang said anything?"
Indeed, now that T4 had brought it up, Chi Lian remembered that the syringe suddenly appeared in her hand.
Curiously, she looked at Muyang and sked, "Muyang, why haven’t you asked me about the syringe or the serum?"
Muyang was caught unawares by the question.
"Eh..well.. I will be lying if I said I am not curious about it but your secrets are yours to keep and someday, when you are ready to tell me, I will listen."
Once more, she threw herself into his embrace and smiled.
"Thank you." she said.
"Always, Chi Lian, anything for you, always."
"Pssh, Just confess your love for me already." she laughed.
"Hmmm." he mumbled and smiled. "Are you feeling better?"
"I am." she smiled broadly, "Mei-Mei is already much better, I have had my revenge and you are here with me."
"Host, you have an urgent mission." T4 informed her. An alert was going off in her mind and the virtual screen was blinking red.
"My daughter is sick." she reminded the system.
"Host, your daughter’s heal vitality is at ninety percent, she is more than healthy. Its time to get back to work."
She excused herself and went to the bathroom. Then she checked the mission panel which was reading urgent.
’Rescue the big chef at the suicide bridge in one hour. If you fail, you will lose access to the system for two months.’
"Ha, now you are threatening me with yourself."
"Host, you have seen how valuable the system is, you have fifty nine minutes left to accomplish the mission."
"Shit!" she cursed and run out of the bathroom. "Watch over our daughter, I will be back soon." she yelled to Muyang as she run.
Outside, she summoned the motorcycle and raced to the Nayan river bridge which had become known as the suicide bridge in the empire because around ten to twenty frustrated people a year in B city committed suicide from there.
She set the speed at maximum and hurried off while cursing. It would take her twenty minutes to get to the bridge and then she had to find the identity of the big chef. Hopefully, there would not be too many people at the bridge.
"Host, thirty five minutes left." T4 counted down the minutes.
"Shut up."
She parked the bike and looked around the bridge wildly.
At the spot where people were gathered and pointing, she spotted the figure of someone high above. From the distance, she could not make out the gender of the individual.
"Let me guess, that’s the big chef."
"Host thirty_"
"Shut up."
Quickening her steps, she broke into a jog and then a full blown run to get to the crowd.
"Has anyone called the police?" she shouted as she pushed through the crowd.
"The police is twenty minutes away," someone replied.
"That’s too long." she commented.
"Host twenty_"
"T4, I swear to God, if you don’t shut up."
Chi Lian did not know what to do in the present situation. The woman standing on the ledge of the bridge had a dead look in her eyes. She was determined to die, there was no stopping her.
So many people were shouting but she hardly looked at anyone.
"I guess that leaves me with only one option." Chi Lian mumbled.
"Host what you are thinking of doing is very dangerous."
"Are you offering solutions?"
"No_ but,"
"Case closed."
Chi Lian stealth fully approached the bridge close to the woman and attached her climbing rope to one end of the steel rod. She tied another end to her waist and she leaped suddenly plunging into the dark cold water with the shocked woman.
As they went down, she could hear the loud screams of the people above. When they got into the water, her rope detached from the steel rod and she swam to the shore with the woman.
Thankfully, the woman was frightened and coughing but alive.
Filled with rage, the woman looked at Chi Lian and screamed.
"Why did you save me? Why, why, why?" The woman sobbed.
"Because I did something bad today and saving you is my good deed of the day."
The woman looked at Chi Lian as if she was a lunatic. She stood up and struggled to walk back into the water.
"You know, rather than killing yourself, perhaps you should tell me your story. Maybe I can help."
"Nobody can help me, I have been everywhere, nobody can help." the woman said feebly.
Chi Lian pulled the woman out of the water once more. "You know, sometimes God answers our prayers at our most desperate moments. This is your moment, I was sent to save you."
"Why do you keep saving me?" the woman asked.
"Tell me your story and if I cant help you, I will personally hold you under the water until you stop breathing."
The woman looked at Chi Lian warily. This person was possibly crazy. She even put a little distance between them.
When she saw that Chi Lian was determined, she opened her mouth and said,
"I was born in a family of chefs, from the ancient years it was the tradition of our family to serve as royal chefs to the emperor and his family. Ever since I was young, my father taught me how to cook because I was next in line to inherit his position as long as I was qualified.
But when I was a teenager, my father adopted the daughter of his dead friend. That girl and I became like sisters, I taught her everything my father taught me not knowing that I was raising a demon by my side."
