Chapter 654: Safe return
Chapter 654: Safe return
After the initial excitement calmed down, and everyone had hugged those they desired to embrace, they moved to the dining room in one of the lounges with a private kitchen where the old madam was cooking for them. Chi Lian could smell the tantalizing aroma of food which teased her stomach and beckoned her to go in search of the old madam so that she could take a peek.
"Grandma," she called, in a coquettish voice as soon as she stepped into the kitchen.
The old madam spun around with a broad smile on her face and immediately opened her arms wide. "Baby,"
"Grandmother!!" She said again, lowering her voice and sounding even more coquettish and child like as she launched herself gently into the old madam’s arms.
"I was so worried about you, how could you go to such a dangerous place? Do you know how worried I have been? I will never allow you to do this again."
"Tell her, she did not even listen to me. I begged and pleaded but she ignored my words." Mama Chi walked into the kitchen and added her own complaint to the old madam’s. "I don’t know when she became this stubborn and disobedient."
"Our baby is not disobedient, she is just overly righteous." The old madam defended Chi Lian.
"And she has a savior complex." Rize had been on mama Chi’s heels and she added her own opinion. "She always has to be the savior, always___"
"No, not always." Chi Lian mumbled from where her head was buried in the old madam neck.
"Princess, stop defaming our baby." The old madam rubbed Chi Lian’s back comfortingly. "Good job and thank you for coming back to us alive without any injury. I would have killed those boys if it was anything less."
"Mmm, I knew you were rooting for me grandmother. You are the only one who is always on my side."
Piak! Mama Chi swatted her on her butt. "This silly girl, so you mean that I don’t root for you. I can’t believe that I gave birth to a betrayer like you. Hurry up and reassure your father because I saw him secretly crying by himself two times in the bathroom."
"Yes mother," she left the old madam’s embrace and nodded.
Then, she poked her head around and looked at thick chicken curry soup which looked ready to eat.
"I knew it, you had come in here for the food and not me." The old madam tsked and lightly pushed Chi Lian toward the door’s entrance. "Go, go, I will call you for your meal in thirty minutes. I am sure that you will not die before then."
"Knowing her, she will probably have snacks in her hands before then." Rize said, loudly.
"That’s true." Mama Chi said.
She laughed, because that was her plan and then, she went off to find her father.
She found him sitting alone in a corner, on a sofa watching the sea through a window in the submarine.
"Father," she plopped herself down beside him.
Papa Chi was surprised but happily to see her and he rearranged himself properly, sitting up right to face her.
"Chi-Chi, aren’t you supposed to be resting or getting something to eat?"
"Not before talking to you father," she said softly.
"Mm, what is it" he asked.
"Mother tells me that you have been so worried about me. I caused so much trouble for you to worry about, didn’t I?" She took his hand and asked.
"Yes." He admitted. Even though he was smiling, she could see the worry in his eyes. "My daughter, I know that you are brave and I am proud of you for what you have done. But__," he paused and said softly, "You are not a soldier my dear. You are an ordinary woman, you don’t need to take up a job that trained soldiers should do. Maybe it’s selfishness but all I wish for is to see my children live happy, long lives. I never want to be a father that has to bury his own children. Promise me that you will never do this again." He tightened his hold on her hand which was holding his.
She wanted to use humor and laugh his worry away but common sense told her not ti do it because of that scared, heavy and turbulent look in his eyes.
"Father," she said. "I know that I worried you so much this time round and I am very sorry. I promise you that I will never worry you unnecessarily again. I have children as welk so I understand what worries you. This was just a one time thing and it will not be repeating itself."
She would carry out any dangerous mission she had to undertake secretly.
"Father, why aren’t you give me a reassuring smile? Are you angry with me?"
"No, why would I be angry with my only precious daughter. I am happier now that I know you will not be engaging in risky activities anymore.
"Alright, let me watch the fishes with you, I am sure that my company will make you happy." She grabbed his arm and leaned her head against his shoulder.
Papa Chi smiled and allowed her to do as she pleased.
"Father that’s a red grouper fish and those are mackerels." She kept pointing and mentioning the names of the different types of fish.
A few minutes later, the children located her and joined them. Mei-Mei pressed her face against the window and stuck her tongue out.
"Don’t lick the window." She told Mei-Mei.
Little monk just happily stayed on her laps and clung to her tightly.
Rose was on her phone but she was swinging her legs slowly from where she was sitting.
Muyang also found them that way and he came with a packaged order of cooked cray fish from the royal kitchen.
"Uncle, how did you get food from the royal kitchen?" Rose reached for the package with her grubby hands.
"I had it flown to the yacht and picked it up." He answered.
The yacht was floating directly above the submarine.
"You can eat this as we wait for grandma’s food." He told them.
"Gladly." Chi Lian said. "Rose, run and bring us plates. I also have powdered juice in my suitcase on the yacht. I should go and get it."
"Stay down, I will go." Muyang told her.
"Mmm, thank you hubby." She said. "It’s in the checked bag. I packed three types, bring them all."
"Yes your highness, what else should I bring?" He asked with a smile.
Rose giggled and Mei-Mei poked the package, and sniffed the air, much like her mother did regularly when she smelled good food.
The old madam arrived before they dug into the cray fish. Behind her was Meili and two servants who pushed a table together and started serving the plated meal.
Behind them was everyone else and they were all carrying plates.
"There is more food in the kitchen so everyone should eat to their satisfaction. The only thing we are missing is a cake to celebrate your safe return." The old madam announced.
"We have cake in the farm." T4 said.
"Which I cannot bring out right now." She told him.
"It has no butter or icing and it can be packed to resemble a prepackaged cake. You should accept it host, you deserve to celebrate."
"Grandma, I have cake as well in my storage box. I will tell Muyang to get it."
"Wooo!" Rize screamed softly.
"Cake, cake." Mei-Mei clapped.
"I will get some wine from the fridge in the kitchen." The old master said. He had seen around three bottles in there.
Observing the happy smiles on their faces, Chi Lian did not regret going to that island for one second. It was worth it to protect this happiness.
