Chapter 623: Mei-Mei is sick.
Muyang claimed to have no idea as to why minister Su wanted to see his wife. By the time the couple came downstairs however, the rest of the family had returned from the wedding but the minister was gone and so was the thief that had been kept in the bunker.
The couple however was too occupied with their crying daughter to care about the sudden leave of the minister without talking to Chi Lian.
No matter how much they comforted the little girl, she just cried and cried, resulting in her face turning red like a tomato.
"Mother, what happened?" Chi Lian asked her mother.
All sets of parents and grandparents had come to the house because Mei-Mei’s crying is what caused them to abandon the wedding hall. Everyone was hovering albeit from a distance as they tried not to overwhelm the little girl.
"I don’t know, one minute she was dancing and the next she was crying. But I have seen her touch her stomach twice, I think she might have an upset stomach." Mama Chi explained in a worried voice.
They had assumed previously that Mei-Mei was crying because of exhaustion or because maybe one of the other children had pinched or beaten her but now it seemed like something else was causing her discomfort.
"T4, scan." she said and then she touched Mei-Mei’s stomach. "Does it hurt baby?"
Mei-Mei nodded and held her arms out for Muyang to carry her.
"Let’s go to the hospital." the old madam said.
The entire family set off for the hospital with no one wanting to stay behind. Because she did not trust the hospital in the courts, they drove to the people’s memorial hospital.
In the car, Chi Lian gave Mei-Mei a pain relief medicine recommended by T4 which managed to calm the little girl down. The scan however could see nothing physically wrong with her.
The director had already been informed about Mei-Mei’s condition and they were rushed to see the pediatrician immediately.
As the parents, Muyang and Chi Lian went in to see the doctor with their daughter. The old madam and mama Chi insisted on going inside as well because they had been with the little girl for the largest part of the day.
As the doctor conducted a series of checks, like a breath check and a scan and she also asked questions which both parents answered.
After a while, the doctor asked, "What has she been eating lately? Tell me about her diet."
"She eats the usual food." Chi Lian answered and she explained Mei-Mei’s diet plan to the doctor.
"What about today?" the doctor asked.
"We were at a wedding so she ate a bit differently from the usual." the old madam said.
"Yes," Mama Chi agreed, "Yesterday we were alsoc at a wedding and she ate a variety of foods, and it was the same thing today."
Both the old madam and mama Chi had a sudden realization. Was it a case of indigestion? Had Mei-Mei over eaten.
"Family members," the doctor said, "I understand that doting on your beloved child is inevitable but you cannot allow her to eat indiscriminately. This is a human body, it must be treated with care because it’s not a garbage dump. It is my opinion that this is a case of indigestion as a result of over eating..."
The doctor was still explaining when Mei-Mei lifted her head, sniveled and the she suddenly threw up all over Muyang who was carrying her.
"Oh," the old madam gasped.
"Bend her slightly forward the doctor said." She placed a bin down so that Mei-Mei could vomit directly inside of it.
Patiently, Muyang patted Mei-Mei on the back, without a care about the dirt on his shoes and and his shirt.
The old madam watched and smiled, her overly clean germophobic grandson had really come far.
"Sorry." Chi Lian apologized to the doctor.
"No, mother," the doctor said with a smile on her face. "Don’t apologize, these things happen when dealing with children, it’s totally normal. Is this the first time she is throwing up?"
"Yes." Chi Lian answered and she looked at her mother and the old madam for confirmation.
"Okay," the doctor nodded and typed a few things on the keyboard in front of her. "I am going to give her some medicines like antacids and some minor antibiotics. I will also make some recommendations about things you should do at home to help her, the most important being to avoid dehydration. There are also foods she should not eat for now like spicy or greasy foods, chocolates, junk and carbonated drinks. So no sodas especially, I know that she might love these things but avoid them until after the review and a bill of clear health. Don’t worry too much, she will be fine."
The doctor was calm, polite and patient, which pleased Chi Lian. Even when Mei-Mei threw up, she remained very professional and expressed not one hint of disgust.
"Thank you very much." She told the doctor when they were leaving the examination room. She thanked her three times because she was grateful for the way she dealt with Mei-Mei and the situation. If they could give doctors tips, this one would be getting a large tip from her.
Outside the ward, the hospital director was waiting outside with two nurses in case Mei-Mei was hospitalized. It was the old master who explained to him that everything was fine, the VVIP room was not necessary tonight.
"I will get the medicines from the pharmacy, clean Mei-Mei up and take her to the car." the old madam told Chi Lian.
"No, old madam, we will do that." the director went off in a hurry with the nurses. "We will deliver this to your cars directly."
How could the owner of the hospital run such errands when the could do it, the director thought.
Muyang went to the bathroom to clean himself up and Chi Lian went with Manchu and Cherry to clean Mei-Mei.
In the bathroom, Manchu touched her abdomen which was protruding slightly as she held one of Mei-Mei’s hands while Chi Lian wiped the little girl’s face.
"Sister-in-law, that was so scary, for me." Manchu said. "She would not stop crying and her face was all red, I was so worried. It’s my first time seeing a child her age get indigestion."
"Me too." Cherry said.
"Don’t forget me." Chi Lian mentioned herself. "I have never seen a child with indigestion as well. But the doctor was right, Mei-Mei does have a habit of eating indiscriminately. She will eat little bits of this and that all day, especially sweet things."
Manchu listened closely, paying much attention because she would be a mother in a few months. Any child related knowledge she could soak up before her own child arrived was welcome.
"In this case, I think it was a result of all of us feeding Mei-Mei this and that yesterday and today. Ah, did she poop at all after the banquet?"
"Now that I think about, she did not." Chi Lian answered after a few seconds of thinking. "But I was also too tired to take note of note of it yesterday and today." She sighed and patted her daughter’s head. As long as her illness was not serious, everything would be fine.
"Let’s go," she told the others.
