Chapter 606: One Yan down
Muyang stunned not just Chi Lian with his words, but those who attended and those who were watching from home. It wasn’t just what he said, it was mostly the way he said it. He said it so slowly, admirably meaningfully and passionately as he looked intensely in her direction with an amorous gaze which drew the envy of many women. There was no doubt that he was smitten and completely taken by her.
Chi Lian covered her cheeks to hide her overwhelming excitement which was on full display in the form of a beautiful red blush on her cheeks. "What is this?" she asked herself.
It almost sounded like another love confession of sorts which it really wasn’t. But she was not the only one who thought this way, many of those who were watching were quick to go online and share their thoughts about his small speech.
As the audience clapped, the spotlight shined on Chi Lian, exposing her captivating face and graceful looks vividly for everyone to admire.
As she walked up to the stage, they admired her grace and poise, she moved so beautifully. If they knew how much training and sulking had gone into the forceful training grandma An forced on her to move this gracefully, they would probably laugh at her. It had been worth it, she looked, spoke and behaved like a true daughter of an aristocratic family now.
Muyang and the host happened to extend their hands at the same time, to help up the last step to the stage.
A few people laughed, perhaps because it was only natural that Chi Lian would choose to take her husband’s hand.
"I think I have already lost this battle." the host said, and he took his hand back.
Muyang helped her to the podium and to the greatest entertainment of the viewers at home, the couple hugged.
"You naughty naughty man." she whispered.
"Surprise." he answered.
All this sweetness and their smiles were captured, not a single second was missed. The cameras at the behest of the producer even focused on Muyang’s hand around Chi Lian’s tiny waist.
Not everyone was amused by all this though, the female reporter for example scowled and mumbled, "Is this a business awards show or the shooting of a romance movie? And she called me unprofessional."
T4 had already discovered the reporter’s identity, she was an old classmate of Muyang’s that he did not recall. She was simply of Chi Lian because he rejected her confession back then.
On stage, Chi Lian stood in front of the podium and smiled. Muyang did not leave her side, he stayed close to her and carried her award in his hands. "Uhm, first of all I want to say a big thank you to the committee and everyone who voted for Phoenix media and myself as the best new business personality of the year. This is my first award, the first form of recognition for what I have accomplished and I promise to always cherish it. Our company is still new and growing but we must be doing something right to have received this great honor of being the best out of all the strong contenders who were nominated. You see, this honor is not mine alone, it’s shared by every employee of phoenix media from the executives, managers, producers, reporters, anchors and writers to the guards who keep us safe as we work. It’s for all of you who have worked hard and sacrificed for me to stand here today like all the members of our family. This is because of you, so thank you so much and I promise you all that this is just the beginning."
She took a small step behind and bowed amidst cheers from other attendees.
Muyang took her hand and they walked off the stage together.
"Was I eloquent enough?" she asked him when they returned to their table.
"Excellent." he assured her.
"When I said our family, I meant you and our family, you know that, right?"
"I know." he smiled. She had looked at him when she said, "Our family." There was no need for her to mention them all name by name. He knew where he stood in her life, he was number one.
In the phoenix building, the employees of the television and those of the magazine who were on night duty were watching the award show from the cafeteria. When Chi Lian said, ’Our company,’ they felt proud. When she included them and said the honor also belonged to them, they cheered. And when she mentioned some of their professions, they cheered even louder.
"If she had not mentioned producers I would have quit." Pd Rao who was working through the night commented.
"Hypocrite." another producer said.
Who in their right mind would quit phoenix media? Right now, they were in the cafeteria eating free dinner that was equal to food in a luxurious hotel. The pay was good, it was always on time and employee benefits were satisfactory. They could receive financial help in the form of salary advances and loans from the company. Their night duty rooms were large and the beds were so comfortable that night duty was not a pain but something most of them enjoyed doing. And the overtime pay was even better because it was massive. Moreover, the CEO appreciated and valued their hard work. This company was the dream for many who were in search of employment.
At their home, the old madam once again expressed her pride after listening to Chi Lian’s speech. "Did you hear that, my baby thanked us too, we are family."
"Yes," the old master agreed with her words. "Our Chi-Chi is a very good person, she even attributed her success to her employees. I bet everyone else that follows is going to do the same thing."
"She is smart, her employees will feel more indebted and loyal to the company." Chairman Jun commented. As a businessman, he could see the value in her speech, it was simple appreciation but another way of making employees feel like the fate and glory of the company fell on their shoulders as much as it did on the CEO.
"That’s our girl." Papa Chi whispered to his wife.
Mama Chi wiped the forming tears of pride in the corners of her eyes and she laughed softly. Never did they ever think that such a day would come. How many years had papa Chi toiled but his company never got such recognition? The daughter had accomplished all of her father’s dreams.
While others were celebrating, and others were feeling proud, on this night, some would begin mourning.
While Chi Lian had been giving her speech, the police had been called out to the scene of a death in one of the most frequented nightclubs in B city. This death appeared to have been caused by an accidental drug overdose.
The police would have looked closer at the case but the victim was one known drug user Yan Da, who always escaped the clutches of the police because of his family’s money and influence. What they did not know was that he was one of the arsonists that set the Rai house on fire and he had flown to B city on a private flight to fake an alibi. Because of the family he belonged to, the police moved secretly and the case was closed within two hours.
Some men in black suits showed up and took the body, putting it on a private helicopter and flying it to the capital immediately.
Inside the Jun family’s strategizing room, Ringo marked one picture with an ’X’ and took it off of a wall that had many other pictures.
"One Yan down," one of the triplets said.
"And he is not even the worst of the bunch." another of the triplets said.
"Who is next?" Ringo asked.
"Let’s go big." the third triplet stabbed Yan Feng’s picture.
