Chapter 600: Daddy vs mummy

Muyang returned home swiftly very worried about the urgent phonecall he received from the butler at home. He was relieved to find a happy family which put a smile on his face because before now, he had been imagining some really ugly scenarios in his mind.

And when his precious daughter abandoned the football match and launched herself in his arms, his entire world lit up.

He did not hesitate to lift her up and kiss her sweaty little forehead.

"Daddy, Daddy, Mei-Mei play football." She told him.

"Very good, Mei-Mei is the best." He answered.

She beamed proudly and continue babbling on, filling him in on everything that he missed.

"Mummy fall down and ....."

Nanny Fang handed him a wipe and he cleaned the sweat away from her face gently while she continued on.

"You little traitor, how could you abandon your team?" Chi Lian lightly spanked Mei-Mei’s bottom once. "We have lost the match."

"You were probably a poor player, Mei-Mei must have carried you through the match." Muyang defended his daughter. She had just scored a goal when he arrived.

Chi Lian rolled her eyes and tsked three times, then she folded her arms across her chest and said, "If you want to see how good of a player I am, take off your coat, fold up your pants and we can have another match, daddy vs mummy."

She used to play football in the army, it was done as a team bonding activity. She would not boast about being excellent at it but she was good enough.

"I can beat you with both hands tied behind my back." Muyang boasted, with a smirk.

"Ouuh." Chi Zimo that had come closer to welcome his brother-in-law home found them in the middle of this verbal declaration of who had the better skills. He was holding the ball in one hand and sheltering it with the other as he continuously failed at the attempt to spin it on his index finger.

Chi Lian grabbed the ball from Chi Zimo’s hands and said to Muyang, "Bring it on."

"Ouuh." Chi Zimo said in a high pitched voice, he also snapped his fingers like a diva and rolled his hand.

"Stop that." she kicked him lightly before running back to the small football field. "Come on Muyang, first to score ten goals will fulfill the other’s wish."

The old master, his wife, Rose and little monk that were sitting down on the grass briefly to catch their breath were confused. Was the game going to be restarted?

"What is going on Chi-Chi?" the old madam asked her.

"I am taking Muyang down." she answered. She looked at her husband and called him over, "Come on, put our daughter down and face me."

She clapped her hands, stretched and jumped up and down, "Woo!!" she said loudly and she stretched her legs, and started shadow boxing.

The old madam whispered to her husband, "She is acting out of character."

"Maybe she is nervous." The old master replied.

Muyang watched his wife as she did all these all these extra unnecessary actions and he chuckled. He had no intention of of engaging her on the field, he was enjoying his Mei-Mei’s incessant chatting at the moment.

"D...daddy, I won." Little Monk shouted.

"Good job son."

"Me, Mei-Mei won."

As always, his daughter would not be left behind in claiming victory even though she had won.

"Good job Mei-Mei."

"Are you coming or not?" Chi Lian was now bouncing the ball from one foot to another, proving that she was good at football.

"Not." Muyang answered.

The ball fell to the ground and went rolling, nobody bothered to retrieve it.

"Why?" Chi Lian asked.

"Because, you win, wife you are better at the game than me. After all that acrobatics you have been doing on the field, how can I possibly beat you." He replied, and he shrugged. He seemed to have given up but there was a smile in his eyes and his lips were curved upwards a little too much for her to believe the sincerity of his surrender.

"No, grandmother, tell him to come and play." she looked and sounded exactly like Mei-Mei when she was reporting a presumed wrongdoing. Even the way they pointed that index finger accusingly. All that was missing was a pout on her face and mother and daughter could be twins.

The two elders burst into laughter, the old madam even hid her face behind the old master’s back so that Chi Lian did not see exactly how much she found her funny right now.

"Grandmother!!" Chi Lian whined.

"Honey, how about we play next time?" Muyang came closer and asked her. "Hmm, I abruptly ended a meeting with a prominent president of an oil and gas company in Russia because I was told that there is an emergency at home. Everything looks fine however, I would not mind returning to the office or heading to my office in the house to work."

She shook her head and took Mei-Mei from his arms. "No work, not right now, there is something you should see but we should head inside first."

He could see that her face had gone from smiling to frowning as soon as she changed the topic. Something had indeed happened, something quite serious, he deduced from her body language.

His brain went into analysis mode, trying to figure out where the problem could possibly lay. There was a limited number of things that would have prompted his grandparents to ask him to come home immediately. He could count said things on one hand and at the top of the list was an urgent danger to the children or his wife. But, there was no sudden announcement of a family mandate so was the danger minimal or would it be handled in house?

Chi Lian looked at the two elders and said, "Grandma, we are heading inside, Muyang and I are going to have a talk."

"Okay, we can discuss this together carefully after dinner." she replied. "Don’t worry about the children, we will give them all a bath."

"Except for me, I can do that myself." Rose said. This was because the old madam once tried to bathe her. It was a very awkward situation for her back then, even now, the memory made her shy.

"Why not?" Chi Lian teased the girl and laughed.

"Aunt, I am a big girl." Rose replied.

"Not in my eyes." The old madam told Rose, "You are still a baby to me. " she looked at Chi Lian again and said, "We will be eating after your discussion so do not take too long."

Chi Lian nodded, she took Muyang’s hand and they slowly walked away from the others. They did not stay where they were however, they got up too and followed the couple into the house. The old madam was doing all she could to distract Mei-Mei who wanted to catch up to her father.

"We should have this talk from my office." Muyang suggested.

The old master overheard him and said, "Keep it brief, I have called the others, it’s not a mandate but they should know about this. We cannot overlook anything now, act casual or leave anything to chance." The old master added. This was war, he wanted to add, the Yan’s had fired the first bullet and they would be firing back a hundred bullets in response.
