Chapter 587: Qi’s corner

There was a special gift shop in the capital, it was a small one in size, squeezed between two large luxury jewelry shops in the Xing and Xing mall. Because of it’s small size, many people often passed it absentmindedly, giving it the barest of glances before moving along, on to shinier shops with obvious loud familiar items that they could feast their eyes on. Many people who walked by or simply peeked inside often wondered how a small shop like that managed to survive with the steep price it cost to rent a shop in the mall. Chi Lian was one of the people that knew why, it was because the shop was owned by daughter of the biggest investor in the mall. The shop belonged to none other than her employee Qi Lele, a fresh faced young girl who was not even out of university. She also knew that Qi Lele paid her rent yearly, she did not simply take advantage of her father’s money to occupy a space shamelessly. The other thing people did not know was that the price of one item alone from this shop could more than cover the cost of one year’s rent.

Qi Lele like clockwork always took one overseas trip per year and on those trips, she looked for the rarest perfumes, the discontinued but still sought after luxurious watches, the jewelry which was once worn by nobles and royalty, jewelry boxes, chairs crafted from special wood or rare trees, toys, rare plants or seeds and that sort of thing. All these were authenticated extremely well to the point that she took pictures with the sellers to prove the source of origin.

If one wanted something special, unique and one of a kind in the aristocratic society, this was where they came, to a small shop named Qi’s corner.

Chi Lian was there right now, with her fruit gift basket which was sitting on a glass counter while a female employee smartly dressed in a red and white suit with a tiny silk floral scarf showed her an item. It was a silver box like item, it had a few scratches on it and it looked really old.

"It’s really Edison’s telegraph which was used for sending and receiving coded messages, it’s one of a kind because it was the first in existence, you will not find something like elsewhere madam." the female employee explained to Chi Lian, "Not only did the CEO obtain it from his descendant, she also got the original patent and the authentic certificate."

She needed no such assurances because T4’s scan could authenticate all this for her. She was also running out of time as the autopsy would start soon.

"How much?" She asked the employee.

"Three hundred sixty eight million." The employee replied.

Chi Lian did not flinch as she handed her card over and the transaction was completed. It seemed extremely lavish and wasteful to spend money like this, but to her, Muyang had gifted her many things worth more than this, including his black card which she rarely used except to buy him a few shirts here and there.

"Wrap it up carefully, add this gift basket as well and a bouquet of your fresh daisies then send it all to Jun investments CEO Jun Muyang. I am leaving one of my people behind to make sure you follow my instructions carefully. He will also be leading in the delivery of the items so your people will assist where necessary."

"Yes madam." The female employee replied politely.

"Great," Chi Lian turned around to leave, and spider stayed behind.

When the gifts were all wrapped up and taken, another female employee approached the one who assisted Chi Lian with a sour look on her face and she said. "It’s not fair,"

"What is not fair?" The other asked.

"She just bought something worth over three hundred million without batting an eye and I am still struggling to pay off a debt I incurred to pay for my university education. I did not even get the job I wanted in any company and I have to watch others walk into luxurious shops and buy expensive jewelries, it’s not fair, it’s not fair at all."

Her colleague gave her an unpleasant look and said, "You have a debt but you also have a well paying job. You earn thirty thousand yuan monthly, you get a transport allowance, days off and health benefits. Before you say that it’s unfair that she can afford such an expensive item keep in mind that the money she has paid contributes to your salary. If people don’t buy these things then we will be unemployed."

She did not understand why her colleague was always this envious and jealous of their customers. Did she not realize that some other people out there had it much worse that they did?

Seeing that her words were met with disdain from her colleague, the employee that was complaining returned to her position, deep down not contented at all.

Chi Lian arrived at the CFS in the nick of time, right when golden Tao was beginning his autopsy.

Behind a large window through which she could the whole thing, she stood with the two detectives and looked on as the body was dissected, photographed. studied, internal organs were weighed and notes were taken.

At the end of the autopsy, he came out, threw his gloves in a bin and declared. "It’s a suspicious death, homicide to be precise."

"Homicide?" One of the detectives said. "Are you sure?"

"Only an idiot would have missed something so obvious, that person had contracted fingers, I suspect that it’s as a result of a condition called Dupuytren’s contracture. A person whose fingers and feet were in search condition would have had a hard time tying the kind of knot it took to use in hanging himself. There is also a faint lingering smell of white kerosene on the body which was used to clean it. It’s also in the mouth, I suspect he bit his attacker which is why the white kerosene was used in the mouth, a whole lot must have been used for it to still be present. But my conclusion even before I write up a report with my findings is that this was a homicide. Where was the body found?"

"Uhm, we don’t know yet." The detective with seniority looked silly as he replied. They knew next to nothing about the case and they had come at the commissioner’s orders.

"How disappointing." Golden Tao gave the detectives a contemptuous look. How could they not know the simplest thing?

Then, he looked at Chi Lian and said, "You are Muyang’s wife."

"Yes." She replied.

"Okay." He said and he walked out.

"We will be taking over the case from here, thank you for bringing it to our notice." The lead detective told Chi Lian.

"Okay." She said.

"We will be needing all the details about the victim and the first people to suspect foul play need to come in tonight and make statements."

"Okay." She nodded.

The detectives went there way and she went hers, contemplating which parts of the story to include and which ones to leave out. Or maybe, she thought given the direction they seemed to be heading, it was better to involve Muyang after all.
