Chapter 561: Our last broad cast

"If you want to see how much controversial the issue is, then check and see what the foreign media is saying about it." Muyang replied.

Chi Lian laughed and said, "Nooo, no way, why would they be interested in a small issue like the color of a princess’s dress?"

Muyang found her words lacking in depth because as someone that worked in the media industry, she needed to be at the helm of all things information. She needed to make calculations about everything from every possible angle, seeing the butterfly effect of every small action, every ripple or crease created by any information no matter how small it was. He would teach her with time, to look at the world through more calculative lenses.

"Wife, what did the news in our empire air when the American princess broke off her engagement?"

Chi Lian’s eyes rotated in a circular movement as she thought, reminding herself of all the headlines at the time, some by phoenix Tv itself.

"Um, heartbreak for American royalty, Was it love or a failed power grab, Single again at twenty nine, Bye bye whiske for the princess, power alliance gone wrong, which prince will save this princess from humiliation." She mentioned the ones which she could remember vividly. The media had somewhat been cruel about all this. Chi Lian could see it now, foreign media was going to retaliate by attack their princess too.

"In Rize’s wild days, the American press did not go soft on her, they called her the untamed Chinese princess. My best headline by the daily metropolitan was ’headache of the East.’ and other things. It’s not uncommon for all royal families of different nations to smear each other’s reputations. The peep star had innocent intentions but when it comes to royalty, politics never ends." he explained patiently to her. "Hey, bandit, bring up all the articles and videos the international press has covered on the wedding gown of the Chinese princess."

Muyang was speaking to his own bandit that replied, "There are forty articles and fifteen videos, which ones do you want to see first?"

"The articles, send them to the television screen and make the headlines bold." he instructed.

On the television screen, phoenix news was paused and articles being sent one after the other appeared and he read them out loud for her.

"Princess chooses white over national color red. Bye bye red and hello white in the empire of China. Out with tradition and in with modernity, the Chinese princess takes a stand against her traditional father. A royal wedding with new cultures. The Eastern headache strikes again!! Having lived overseas for a year was the Chinese princess westernized more than anyone knew? Defying the emperor, brave Eastern princess makes her choice."

"Stop, stop, stop." She said loudly to him, "I get it now, I should have thought before_" She stopped herself in the nick of time before she could say, "Before posting about the stupid dress."

"The best way to turn things around is for this news to be trampled on by bigger news. Something that will buy the royal family space to breathe, even if the princess comes out now and says she never intended to choose the dress people will say that she is simply making excuses. Also someone has already found a picture of the princess coming from the bridal shop which made the dress."

Chi Lian racked her mind for the best way to spin this issue and turn it around from something negative to something positive. "Think, think, think," she told herself. "I got it." she said.

"What is it?" he asked her.

"Let me call her first and explain my idea while all three of us can speak at the same time. Rize would never reject her phone call because Chi Lian could often spin anything and she was a trusted ally.

"Sister," Rize whined on the video call immediately, "Father is tearing me a new one. I was not going to pick that dress, how could I pick another dress over my grandmother’s personally hand sown gown? I would break her heart if I did that. I wanted a second emergency gown but I did not imagine that the shop would boldly include white." She was explaining herself desperately needing for someone to understand her. "I should not have tried on the stupid gown!!"

"Rize, calm down, and listen to me. Instead of planning one wedding, let’s do the white wedding after one day. You can say that the second gown is for the white wedding, a small event which will only include family and close friends and that is why it was not announced publicly. Tell the press that by adding red to your white gown, you wanted a piece of tradition even at the white wedding."

"She can go from uncultured princess to filial and exemplary princess." Muyang thought out loud.

"Yes." Chi Lian nodded. "She will effectively shut up every mouth that had something to say. In fact, they will be the ones to apologize for over reacting."

"I blame the peep star or all this." Rize banged her fist on the table and said angrily.

"But sister-in-law, all the peep star said was that you were considering it, they never said you had settled for it." She wanted to explain herself because this was not an outcome she foresaw.

"Are you defending that paparazzo?" Rize questioned Chi Lian, looking at her sternly through the camera of the phone.

"No," Chi Lian waved her hands in front of her chest, "Never, I too blame the peep star." She kept her mouth shut pretty quickly after that because if she over defended herself, she could arise suspicions.

"Sister, you have the peep star’s contact right?’ Rize asked.

"No, I communicate like everyone else by sending a message and when the peep star is interested they get back to me. We have no other form of communication, absolutely none." She denied.

"Sister_" Rize seemed to be insistent.

"Rize," Chi Lian cut her off and said, "Muyang and I have to go because we are inside a submarine and it’s about to surface. I have told you what to do, mmm, call for a press conference immediately." Chi Lian ended the video call and she threw the phone on her table as if it was a hot potato.

"Why are you so thrown off?" Muyang asked her.

"Because, we have to prepare for our last broadcast, not prepare, start but she seems to have a lot to say and we are time pressed. We pushed it to this time because it’s supposed to be a special. I discovered a sunken ship that we can search and pick clean on live broadcast. You know that people like such things and more importantly, we keep what we find. Or sell it for a good amount of money. Come on hubby, time to put on our diving suits." Her excuse was not really a lie because they pushed the live broadcast to five o’clock in the evening and it would end at seven, just in time for the evening news. By pushing to five, it gave many workers a chance to finally watch from home. It was also what Chi Lian perceived to be the perfect goodbye because they started with a sunset and she wanted to end the show with another sunset.
