Chapter 535: Everyone has something to teach us.

It was inevitable, she knew, that some of the younger girls were simply here for that reason.

"Both."

"Jun Muyang."

There was a mixture of responses from the suddenly chorus answers and she raised her hand up and closed her fist, asking them to keep quiet.

"I would have loved to speak to you but this conference is not for me alone to learn, it’s also for you. Since yesterday you have heard from CEO’s and female presidents of companies and I am no different from any of them. I can stand up here and tell you all about how I started from the bottom and now I am here but you will not be hearing anything new from me that they haven’t said already. In fact it will be shameful of me to do such a thing. This conference is for women in business stretching across all walks of life, not just CEO’s and presidents. I personally asked Miss Wei Yuesong to come and speak because you can learn more from her than you might from me. So I am going to urge you to put down your premature judgements and unwarranted disappointment and listen to a woman who might change the direction of your life. This will not be our last conference, it’s only the beginning so you will get many more opportunities to hear me speak. This said, I humbly request you to put your hands together and welcome miss Wen Yuesong genuinely."

Chi Lian returned to her seat but she could tell with the sharpness of her ears that the clapping was more enthusiastic this time round.

"You scolded them in a veiled manner, nicely done." T4 said. He showed a pair of hands fist bumping on the virtual screen.

"I have said nothing but the truth and more to the point, there are many aspects to my wealth I would rather not speak about. You and I know how I started, I blackmailed Wu Liang as a paparazzo and sold alien technology for seed money. I was never planning to speak at this conference but I never wanted to share that fact with anyone because they would become nosy and wonder why."

On the podium Wei Yuesong was smiling and proudly holding her head up now. "The first thing you should know about me is that I am widow."

That was not the way everyone expected her to begin her speech, it was none of their business but they went along with it anyway.

"The second thing you should know is that I sell fish in a market for a living."

A lot of women were taken back, a few looked around and one girl even sneered to express her disgust. Wei Yuesong was not new to some of these expressions, over the years she had become numb to them.

"The third thing you should know about me is that I have three children, two of them are studying an Ivy league university in the American empire and one is an alumni of Crown University who is a neuro scientist, now working in Pear Scientific park. That’s how CEO Chi came to know about me."

Now, she peaked the interest of many attendees. Ivy league universities were expensive and so was Crown University. You needed brains and money to attend crown University. Was the woman that sold fish secretly rich?

"The fourth and final point is that I own ten fishing ships, not boats but big ships or fishing vessels on the South Sea. I could mention my other assets just to prove a point but I will not. When I tell people that I sell fish they give me looks of disgust and some boldly hold their noses as if I walk around with the smell of fish on my body.

You might not believe this but I used to work as the head of marketing in a large pharmaceutical company. I was so good at my job that I got many bonuses every year but like most women a time comes when you must settle down and get married which I did. I got pregnant and gave birth to my first children, twins. I returned to work after two months but then unexpectedly, six months later I found myself pregnant again."

She had the gasps of women in the room and she nodded.

"Right, I know it sounds ridiculous and it was. One of the challenges we used to face the most as women in the workplace was pregnancy because it made our colleagues think we were unreliable. Getting rid of the stain that married women in the workplace were a nuisance was difficult and yet here I was, barely a year into my return and I was pregnant again. I was given all sorts of nasty looks and talked about at work and for your information it was not the men who were nastiest, it was the women."

Again, more gasps followed her revelation.

"Yes, I once overheard a few of my female friends at work discussing me with male work mates. One said, she got pregnant last year and we got stuck with her work and now she is shamelessly pregnant again. Does she think she is the most fertile woman in the company? Is she a rabbit that she is going to be popping out babies every year? I don’t know why she doesn’t just stay at home, all of us here are more suited to do her job than she is." Wen Yuesong paused and pursed her lips. She looked at the young hopeful faces of the girls and sighed.

"I cannot tell you not to get married or have children but I advice you to have a solid support system at work and at home in case of an unplanned pregnancy or any other emergency that will affect your work. I lacked that system at work which made me fall into a depression, I reached a point were I hated my own unborn child. I blamed it for messing up my life and in my moment of confusion I considered getting an illegal abortion. I will always remember the hot slap my husband gave me when he found out, he pleaded with me to come to my senses because I could always find another job but I would never forgive myself if I harmed my own child, and he was right. My child was innocent, if anyone was doing something wrong it was me, I have never been so grateful to be slapped in my life."

Some people chuckled at those words.

"That month I quit my job and took a break from work. I stayed home and gave birth to my child, becoming a full time house wife. I also decided to raise my twins and fired the nanny. I will not lie and say that it was easy but right now, I believe it was worth it ."
