Chapter 529: Maybe Cherry should have a child

As soon as the elders went to their room, Muyang faced the disapproving face of his father who was staring at him with a huge frown as if he was insane. He expected his father to explode as soon as he opened his mouth But it was not his father that spoke first, it was his mother that raised her voice to ask them the question which had been on their minds.

"You two, are you crazy?" She extended her body toward them, bit by bit.

Muyang and Chi Lian looked at each other and then back at his parents.

"Why?" Muyang pretended not to know what they were referring to.

"Don’t give your mother that hopeless look you know what we are talking about. How can you both indulge them like this?" His father’s exasperated loud voice made it’s entrance into the conversation. "They are old for crying out loud!!"

"Old is not dead father-in-law." Chi Lian mumbled and quickly shut her mouth when those fiery glaring eyes turned to her.

"The man had a heart attack before we all convinced him to retire. You were there Muyang, you remember it. It took the entire family coming together to shed a few tears and guilt trip him into giving up work. What happened to not being on board when your grandfather first brought up this lunacy? And now you are congratulating him for packing up and moving to a town that is colder than an ice cube in winter. Are you trying to send your grandfather to an early grave?" His father exploded in anger.

"Don’t shout at my son." He Weili slapped her husband’s hand lightly. "You will attract the attention of the elders."

"I am not shouting." He gritted his teeth, calmed himself and replied.

"Father-in-law, grandfather is not going to hold meetings and talk about the growth of the company while worrying about competition and complicated business matters. He is basically going to a retirement community. Have you seen how old some of the scientists are? They are as old as he is, they go around together doing different things. It’s one of the reasons why he loves it over there. The environment around the labs is relaxed, I have hired a yoga instructor, a masseuse, there is swimming pool. I even opened a branch of Juan tea in the town to ensure that he can still drink all the teas he loves. The roads in the town are good, the security is top notch and there is a harbor with new fishing grounds. Grandfather will be happier there than he is here where he does nothing all day." The only thing the courts offered was a privilege of being able to live in the most expensive housing area of the empire but other than that, it was quite boring for the elderly. The activities which were prioritized here suited the younger generation more than the old ones. The cold town had a bigger elderly population already, it was a better option for the two elders. As a matter of fact she planned to send the grandpa Wang and madam An there for a while. It would be good if they did not hover around Chi Wei a lot, he was complaining about all the lessons in propriety being stuffed down his throat. The old master had basically turned him into a project which was apparently stressing him as much as his work was. Chi Lian had been right about the number of people who would destroy or return their companion devices. They were insisting on upgrades or deduction of some features which displeased them which was stressing her brother.

"I don’t support this." He Weili shrugged.

"Neither do I." Muyang’s father declared.

"And that’s why there is such a thing as free will." Muyang informed them. "My wife has a two day conference to spear head starting tomorrow and she needs to rest. Mother, father if you are both worried about the elders you can always go with them and stay for a while. Once you are satisfied that they are happy and comfortable you can return."

Knowing that this was not an issue that could ever be settled, Muyang took Chi Lian by the hand and forcefully led her back to the bedroom. As they were changing into pajamas, a few doubts could not help but tickle her mind and they stayed with her when she got into bed.

"Are we doing the right thing?" She finally asked him when sleep evaded her. She had been awake for close to an hour just worrying about everything that could go wrong after the elders moved.

"My parents are probably worried more about the fact that the house will be empty with us and the elders gone. It will be just them and this house is quite large so it can get uncomfortable when there is nothing to fill up your time with."

"Maybe Cherry should give birth." Chi Lian said out of the blue. "Your parents will have something to spend their time on."

Muyang chortled and faced Chi Lian. "My brother as a father!!!..unless hell freezes over that’s not going to happen."

Chi Lian was of the opposing view however, it could happen. Muyang became a father in an unconventional way but it happened and she could recall quite clearly that he too had been adamant about never having children before she came along.

"Your brother was never supposed to get married but he did. He even moved out to work on his relationship with his wife. We have a family chat group and you have seen how lovey dovey they have been over the past few months. They go on more dates than we do."

"Are you jealous?"

"Yeeees." She whined slightly. "Did you see their pictures in the kingdom of France? They even did that stupid cliché thing of writing your names on a padlock and throwing the key away."

"We can go in December and for your information, knowing my brother well and considering the fact that his work is sketchy, there could be a possibility that he is on a mission"

"With Cherry?" She asked doubtfully.

"You have no idea how many times he has gone undercover with a female agent posing as his girlfriend when necessary. If Cherry knows what he does for a living it’s possible that she is in on it."

She poked his cheek and sighed. "You are really so determined to poke holes in your brother’s love life."

"Because I know my brother." Muyang shrugged. "Their marriage itself could be a cover."

"No way." Chi Lian shook her head vehemently and added, "I saw them kissing passionately at the pool once. The way they were going at it I am sure that they are intimate."

"Sex is not as complicated as you would think for my brother." He saw the frown on his wife’s face and amended his words. "Even if their relationship has changed and he is in love with her, children are something else completely. They are ties that require you to be at home as often as possible. My brother used to come home three times in a year, ties are not his kind of thing."

"You changed, he can change too." Chi Lian insisted on what her eyes and mind had convinced her of. The day she saw them kissing, Ringo had looked at Cherry the way Muyang looked at her. Maybe he did not know it yet but that was a man in love. "Maybe we should discuss something else, like how you have been sneaking our luggage out slowly. What did you take without my noticing?"

"Oh just a few things here and there but why don’t I hum you a lullaby since you can’t sleep?"

She wanted to probe some more but he was already humming and gently caressing her. She gave up and closed her eyes, allowing sleep to overtake her. She had a busy day tomorrow and she needed the sleep.
