Chapter 483: The unwilling crown princess.
Chapter 483: The unwilling crown princess.
Chi Lian physically pulled her head back in shock, what exactly did the emperor mean by his words? Was it his intention to accuse her of something?
"My wife does not know your majesty I have not told her about the issue yet." Jun Muyang responded further confusing Chi Lian. She looked at him with many questions in her eyes but he gave a reassuring smile in response.
"I see." The emperor said.
"Am I being accused of something here your majesty?" Chi Lian blurted out the question which was on her mind because she could not stand this air of mystery that these two were perpetrating. "You have just asked me if I will I run the families of criminals that are already living in the cold town out of their homes too. Your use of the word ’too’ specifically means that I have run someone out of their home previously but I do not have any recollection of such an event. Every house, building or field that I acquired in that town was done legally. Money was paid to all those people and there is video and paper documentation of all these transactions. If someone is making an accusation against me then I will fight it head on." She spoke so clearly and sternly, withdrawing all pretense of meekness and humbleness.
The old madam pressed her hand and Chi Lian almost shrugged it off, she had done enough curbing of her behavior for the day. Was she supposed to say ’thank you for making those allegations emperor I am highly honored!!!"
"Ran, leave the girl alone for heaven’s sake, this is what, the third time you are gripping her hand to stop her from speaking her mind. " the emperor said this to the old madam. Ran was the name Chi Lian sometimes heard the old master using when he was calling her.
"I apologize your majesty, I am just overly protective of Chi-Chi." the old madam smiled politely and she bowed.
"What worries you does not worry your grandson, just look at him, he is smiling because his wife is now back to her usual self. Anyway this is the version of the girl which I prefer, not whatever she was previously doing. Look young lady Chi, someone went to the police station and accused you of forcefully evicting some of the previous owners and taking over their properties. One Mu something, she is a woman. There was no official report filed since she changed her mind but someone in the station at the cold town knows that you are related to commissioner Bolin so they called him and he called your husband. I became aware of the information because I am interested in the changes you are going to bring to the town, and the empire at large. I am one of the people that are rooting for you." the empire raised his fist and he nodded.
He was rooting for her!, this was news to her. Then again_, she thought, the whatever she achieved could be tied to her family since she would empower them and this would be good for him if Rize married into their family. She felt more and more like a pawn being moved on his board.
"Thank you for rooting for me your majesty, I will make sure that I do not disappoint you." she replied.
Some maids came into the throne room and provided tea and cookies. The tea had a distinct smell, Chi Lian waved her hand slightly to draw in the aroma properly. She closed her eyes slightly and she opened them when she heard the emperor saying something.
"That’s the last Da Hong Pao in the palace, my empress has banned it all so I have no choice but to follow her lead. She is my wife after all, surprisingly your Juan tea was apparently the crux of this issue."
"He is really very chatty today." Muyang leaned over and whispered to his wife.
She guffawed but her mind was stuck on the emperor’s words, how had Juan tea led to the banning of Da Hong Pao from the palace. This was not any other type of common tea, it was tribute tea. This was the kind of tea which rich people liked to use when they were hosting special guests. And the poor people who were trying to gain the favor of the rich also presented it as a special gift.
"The crown princess has arrived." a royal guard that announced the guests the emperor was expecting said loudly.
The doors were opened and the dainty and beautiful crown princess, dressed in in a long white hanfu entered into the throne room. She moved so gracefully and slowly, a small chime sounded every time she lifted her feet and when she passed by Muyang and Chi Lian. She guessed that the crown princess was wearing an ankle bracelet. Behind her were two maids that walked with their heads bowed. Chi Lian saw that the crown princess bore a striking resemblance to Yan Daya. ’No wonder we can never get along, she thought, they could almost be twins. But they were not twins, simply cousins and she thought that maybe one copied the face of the other. It had to be Yan Daya that copied Yan Ruong’s face. She had heard a few rumors that Yan Daya’s face had gone under the knife. It was one of those open secrets that were secretly talked about.
When the crown princess reached close enough to the yellow line which was the furthest one could go when summoned by the emperor, she stopped and bowed politely.
"You sent for me your majesty." she said humbly.
"I did, crown princess, apparently you have been going around and creating trouble for me in the name of royalty." the emperor responded.
"I have been inside the palace all day your majesty, I have created no trouble for this royal family." she replied softly.
"Did you or did you not send a maid with a decree to the Jun family?" the emperor put down his own tea cup and he asked her sternly.
"Yes I did, I wanted to procure a piece of jewelry from Chi Lian for the liberation day festivals. The princess, empress and queen dowager are all doing the same. My actions are no different from theirs." She spoke so confidently as if she was wearing an invisible amour that could protect her from the wrath of the emperor.
The emperor banged his fist on the table once unhappily, "And that is why you asked young lady Chi to kneel down before receiving the decree? I am also surprised by something else, since when do we need decrees to purchase jewelry? Do you also send out decrees before you go dining at a restaurant or hotel in the empire? Do you do it when you are buying clothes or shoes Do?, Do all the citizens of my empire have to get down on their knees for you when they see you coming? Should I kneel down for you right now?"
"Your majesty!!" the crown princess gasped and her maids knelt down on the floor immediately.
"So they can kneel but you can’t." the emperor commented.
The crown princess got down on her knees, Chi Lian could see her clenching her jaw, she was obviously very unhappy about it.
"I have no idea what happened your majesty, I only sent the decree because I was afraid that she would reject me if I made a polite request." the crown princess explained.
"Are you aware that young lady Chi is married to my cousin’s son?" the emperor asked her.
The crown princess shook her head, "No your majesty, I thought they were simply engaged."
"Ah," the emperor made a mocking face. Did she think that he was a fool? All the aristocratic families knew that Muyang and Chi Lian were husband and wife. The Jun family had made no secret of it, they publicized it to anyone that cared to listen.
