Chapter 481: Mouse Chi

The emperor signaled with his hands and some royal guards came forward and grabbed Yi Sijui. He looked at the butler and the butler stepped out. He then turned his attention to Chi Lian and he asked her, "Are you sure about his identity?"

"I have identified...." she was just about to brag about how she had identified another rebel before so identifying others was a piece of cake when she recalled the old madam’s warning about being boastful in the presence of the emperor. She changed her words immediately, "I have identified him carefully, I spent time observing him and I only grabbed him after confirming his identity thoroughly. He has been living in the American empire under the name John Kim. I would show you the relevant paperwork but our bags stayed with the royal guards."

"Bring their property." the emperor ordered a royal guard that was on the group which brought them inside. "What else do you know about him?"

"He had some plastic surgery done on his nose to change his appearance slightly. He is unmarried and he lives alone but he recently started dating or attempting to date a nurse that works in Pai heart general hospital. I don’t know if she is connected to him in any other way, all I know is that they met online." She knew everything about the nurse already but as the old madam had said, say only that which is necessary.

The royal butler returned with a piece of paper and handed it to the emperor who looked at it and then he looked at the man on his knees. "You are right, he looks quite different. How did you recognize him?"

"Through my work your majesty, there is a room in one of my offices where we put up wanted pictures of rebels, criminals and suspects. I am in the news business and to me they are a source of news. But I am also a citizen of the empire, getting rid of the rebels is a duty that falls on all of us."

"Ha-ha-ha." the emperor suddenly laughed loudly, taking them all by surprise. "I like you little lady Chi, I have heard that you are good at sniffing out news worthy stories and it seems to be true. It’s fascinating how you are able to sniff out things other people cannot find, you are like a mouse sniffing for cheese." He tilted his head slightly to the right and put his hand on his chin thoughtfully, "Maybe we should call you mouse Chi." he said and laughed.

The old madam, the royal butler and Muyang also laughed which prompted Chi Lian as well, albeit carefully to avoid offending him. "Very funny your majesty." she said.

In her mind she asked herself, "Why are we laughing? Is there something funny about calling me a mouse?"

"Yes," the emperor replied proudly, "I can be quite funny at times."

"Extremely funny your majesty." the butler said.

"Yes, your sense of humor is very outstanding." the old madam added and Chi Lian guffawed.

Truthfully this time, she found it quite funny how they indulged the emperor. An outstanding sense of humor!!! The more she thought about it the harder she laughed until she felt the old madam squeezing her hand.

The time to laugh was over, and despite her desire to still do so, Chi Lian reined it in.

"You like my joke a lot it seems." the emperor said with his eyes keenly on her.

"Yes your majesty, I had no idea that you were a man of many hidden talents." she replied. As long as he was not aware that she was laughing at him, everything was okay.

"Tell me," the emperor leaned forward in his seat, "what else do you know about him?"

"Nothing else your majesty, I brought him to you almost as soon as I arrived. Everything that I know about him you also know now." If she gave up a lot of information it would look as if she was skillful at spying. That was not the image she wanted to portray.

A royal guard returned with their property and she rummaged through her bag and gave the royal butler a phone and some paperwork including a passport which Yi Sijui always carried around. The butler handed the phone to the emperor. He looked at it and handed it back to the butler and the butler gave it to someone else.

"Take him away for questioning." the emperor ordered.

Yi Sijui was wide awake, in shock and in disbelief as his mind came to terms with the circumstances which made no sense to him. How had he ended up back in the empire? The last thing he remembered was a woman approaching him and fireworks. Was he dragged? He needed to get out of here quickly he knew what awaited him.

He tried to struggle but one of the royal guards punched him in the stomach and he groaned. He was dragged away despite of his pitiful struggle.

Ding! Mission accomplished Chi Lian heard in her mind that familiar mechanical sound and she smiled. She had more gold to add to her small pile.

"Take a seat." the emperor told them when they were alone, "You can tell me all about how you brought him back from America to our empire without being noticed."

They all pulled out chairs gently and sat down.

"I brought him on a private plane, he was unconscious so it was easy to transport him."

"Ah," the emperor said as if he had made a great realization. "Is it your husband’s plane?"

"No, it’s my plane." she replied.

The emperor raised his eyebrows and looked slightly surprised and partly impressed. "Another successful citizen of my empire that is below thirty, I am pleased to hear this. I did hear about the self driving car technology which you have sold to almost every country. On one hand I am disappointed that our empire will not be championing this field but on the other hand I am satisfied with your abilities. In fact, I have been hoping to see my daughter take on a bigger role on your television." He was smiling but beneath that smile she understood his veiled meaning.

She could smile, pretend and indulge the emperor as much as everyone wanted but she hated being told how to handle her business, especially in this way. "The princess is doing successfully right where she is." Chi Lian blurted.

The old madam pressed her arm and Chi Lian smiled stiffly, softened her tone and corrected her words,"What I mean is that it has not yet been a year since she started hosting tea with a princess. There is still much for her to learn, in due time I intend to help her grow within the media world but right now it’s better for her to be where she is. It may look like her show involves hosting celebrities but her interviews are very in depth, touching and inspiring. She was recently voted on an online poll as the best interviewer in the empire. You can already see the effect in the way other talk show hosts are trying to emulate her behaviour, dressing and catchphrases. Someday she is going to interview royalty and dignitaries from the other empires, all she needs is time to grow."

What she really wanted to say was that the princess is an adult and she can make her own decisions about her career but she held back. At this rate the emperor might as well write down which position he wanted his daughter to take and tell her to make it happen.

"And what is your opinion on her relationship with your brother?" He asked her. He was so straight forward with his questions asking what he wanted to know in a way that made her wonder if he truly sought her opinion or he was just seeking to trap her somehow. It was not her relationship so why should she have opinions on it?
